Great stuff Mikey! You guys really put DTD to work proving that it was not just a quick and dirty patch job for a test flight - that airplane is legit restored and back in service!
Steve, when do you get to get some time in DTD? You know that would make for some awesome FlightChops footage.
One thing I noticed on this video is that “Buffalo Joe” doesn’t seem to be speaking as clearly as he used to. I hope his health is ok, I am concerned for him.

Benjamin and ENA has to be the best "find" from Season 1. great to see them involved again! Great to see DTD tucked away for the Winter with "friends" to yarn out some tales.
I think one of the biggest smiles of this UA-cam account has been watching your Dad (and Ronny too) get a little more comfortable talking to a camera and being more “themself”. I think your Dad has enjoyed the DTD project more than he will admit. I love listening to your Dad just talk. One day I hope to experience it in person.

It's awesome that the DDay birds have all been brought in from the cold. WZS ROD and especially DTD are forced to be in another cold snow bank again. So glad the battle buddies all get to stay warm and in their fox hole together.
You all are not only stewards of the planes. But the people who served on and around them. Mikey you all do those men who fought served and gave the ultimate true honor. You all are the greatest stewards that these living artifacts could ever have.
As a former member of that proud service. THANK YOU ALL!! You all exemplify why I joined served and offered all that was asked of me.

Looks like I'll have to be "the Avis guy" in thanking you for your service! My father came ashore on Omaha Beach on 6/6/44. (29th Infantry Division) And ironically, my daughter graduated from Herndon High School, in the town that inspired the name of the U.S.S. Herndon, AKA "Lucky Herndon", which served in D-Day. Because of Plane Savers, I went to CWH in Hamilton in July. It was the first time my daughter got to see a biplane in flight, as well as a Lancaster, and a Dakota. The CWH Lamc was my second as I saw the BBMF example at Coleville-sur-Mer on 6/6/94.
2019 was a great year! For me it had that special connection as I earned my PPL, CPL, ME, IR at CYHU long ago and attended ENA in avionics but dropped out to work. Seeing this bird fly at CYHU June 6 was an honor and a thrill. She deserves a warm hangar to make up for all those years of laying wasted, and it shows that your family truly appreciates all the work ENA and others put into restoring her to flying status by giving her a proper sheltered home. Cheers Mikey, it was an honor to shake your hand at CYHU. You are also a “Rock Star” 😎

So far it seems like Benjamin is doing most of the work on the Fokker. Owned by Mikey, built by Benjamin, flown by William.

Your Dad is the rock star. He reminds me so much of my Grandfather that was a C47 Capt. In WWII. I so need to come fly on one of your planes some day. I have never been in a C47.

Just seems like yesterday she was sitting all alone in the snow, and now look at her. Glad to have had the chance to help with a small number of funds to get her back in the air. Those wrist bands you should put up for auction to help fund the Fauker.

For the next time, there are scotchbrite wheels for a bench grinder that will considerably shorten the prep time on the rib parts. Don’t know how much more of that kind of work is coming up, but it is a great asset for wood as well as metal working. Wheel size determines surface speed, so you can get appropriate to the work you are doing.

It's still awesome to think that a rag-tag group of people were able to both fundraise and mobilize all of the resources need to restore such a venerable bird as DTD in such a short time. It is now a tribute to everyone from Mikey on down to the people who watched the videos, and the love they all have for flight. Thank you!
Great to hear that the grand lady of the skies will be nice and warm inside that hangar,love the progress on the Fokker Dr.1 ribs and looking forward to seeing exactly what is in that crate Mikey and what needs doing to get her airworthy again.

I was wondering (and hoping) that DTD would spend the cold snowy Canadian winter indoors.
Ironically just yesterday, I saw a documentary on Glenn Miller, and only then did i find out it was a Norseman that he was flying in when it crashed into the channel. Then Mikey shows the Norseman and you hear Joe yell out Glenn Miller! an Mikey says Glenn Miller Norseman's ! Great clips as usual!

I still want to see Plane Savers bring back a fully operational North Star, Canadair Jetliner or Avro Arrow. All were instruments of peace, commerce, prosperity, and innovation. As for the DR.1, 44 years ago I made a day trip with a friend to Cole Palen's Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. I vaguely recall seeing a "triplane" replica during the airshow. But, I had a "Stella" with me that day who kept me pleasantly distracted., LOL! Locally, I don't know if Flying Circus still does its thing in Bealeton, VA. I might look into going one more time before I GFO from NOVA! I think 'DTD might be a bit big for that grass strip. As for the interior of 'DTD, from what you've shown already, on U.S. airlines, it would be considered "executive" class, far above the current standard for first, let alone business. What wouldn't surprise me is the FAA allowing standee straps (perhaps recycled from scrapped rail cars) to replace what currently passes for "seats" in U.S. airliners!
Mikey, in all seriousness, keep up the good work. I'm glad to see Buffalo "passing the torch" to the next generation by bringing Benjamin on-board! Would love to see Buffalo get more "modern iron" to maintain a profitable lifeline to the Canadian North. I got a good laugh out of one of your shows whee you mentioned watching "The Simpsons" as a child. I'm old enough to remember hearing the CBC "Northern Service" on shortwave radio!

Mikey, I can not understand. You obviously love DTD, as we all do and look back on a mammoth achievement...But I can not understand you have access to a shed load of aircraft, and your dads colossal experience flying a DC3. And you don't seem to want to learn to fly it? You have all winter to learn... Some of us can only dream of flying a aircraft......Perhaps Joe could adopt me....Sadly I am Scottish not Irish so can't try and say Joe is a long lost relative......hee hee. Sad this summer has gone by so quick. I can feel the chill in the air, even way down here in Massachusetts. Been in the upper 40's (F) every morning this week and hasn't got much over 65° ... and the days are rapidly getting shorter. Hate it! :(

We get to see a Fokker rebuilt this will be really interesting, DTD it would seem has performed faultlessly a tribute to those who worked on her.
Glad to see it's home. Most of us would kiss the tarmac it's parking on and you're able to walk past it because it's there and its yours and it flys

Clearly DTD is still the darling of Plane Savers. I love hearing about her and seeing that she is still a significant focus. For me personally I watch the Fokker episodes to see if DTD is mentioned. Haha

I'm really glad to hear that Ronnie is going to be upholstering the cockpit of DTD. After seeing the "spiffy" cockpits of some of those other restored DC-3s, I felt bad for DTD. I know that a nice cockpit wasn't needed to get her flying and the work you guys did on the panel is first class but the rest of the cockpit is a bit scruffy (just saying). So please let us see some of the cockpit upgrades in progress (upholstery and radios) as you and Ronnie have time to show us. Thanks.
Haha ya the cockpit did have a lot of “character”. After that maybe next year we tackle the 1960’s Cabin :)

Hi Mikey, just watched on Discovery Channel, Savage Builds with Adam Savage from Director Peter Jackson's place in New Zealand. You have to see this program. Peter has a large collection of WW1 planes which I assume you know. The interesting things that stood out to me was one of his pilots saying the DR-1 is not an easy plane to fly. Also Peter talking about the restoration of these aircraft has to be done with original materials because using new our new materials affects the balance of the aircraft. You've got to check it out. I admit I was part of the "he's crazy! That damn thing will never fly..." But I have to admit I was there for every episode.

The state of the DR-1 reminds me of the Guillows Bonanza kit I tried and failed to build. I was impatient as a kid. I was more used to the Revell and Aurora plastic kits...
