I love this song (easily my favourite on 'Lungs') and was ecstatic when I found such a brilliant acoustic version of it. Acoustic instruments combined with Florence's voice never fails to be beautiful...

I am now officially convinced that she is a goddess and the city Florence in Italy was named after her.
I been listening to her since 'between two lungs' and i'm STILL enchanted. I think I just might Die if she and Lana Del Rey ever got together. It'd be too much. Honestly, i truly believe they are immortal. Their voices together would create an infinite black hole, in which i would gladly be sucked into.
Simply amazing. Haunting voice with deep,honest lyrics and energy.

Ms. Welch should really do an acoustic album. I love the stripped down version of her works (music videos included), but I love the album versions too
she talks a lot about death and darkness in her songs. she's the mother of a new genre, gothic-pop hahahaha. her lyrics are kinda... macabre and totally epic. and her music is soft, heavenly skary. she's much more gothic than some goth-metal musicians, she's pure art!

Hey Rareflorence, do you know where and when this performance was recorded? Thank you so very much for posting so many lovely renditions of Florence's work. I would buy a cd of just all of her unreleased songs and acoustic performances. I agree that her acoustic work is special, I think because is showcases her voice more so than when the instruments are more prominent. But her band is so great too. I love it all.

does anyone else think this song is about mind control? I know everyone has their own take on the lyrics but I can't be the only one who picks up on the hints. "Until I realize that it was you who held me under" under mind control and she didn't even know it, and when she realized this "All around the world was waking, I never could go back. Cause all the walls of dreaming, they were torn wide open" she came out of the mind control. I still LOVE this song, even though i feel like it has a much darker meaning.
That's more of a literal interpretation. I like to think of it meaning someone is coming up out of an abusive relationship. It doesn't even have to be a relationship; the person could just finally be having a major epiphany, and they can't look at things the way they used to anymore because they have been awakened to the truth.
Wow, it also makes sense... I've always thought this is about growing up. Becoming Adult. She has to leave her own mind world and start to live real life. "A tourist in the waking world, never quite awake" As if she's not an often participant of real life, she's calling herself as a tourist. Waking world is the real life that she's discovering. She's never quite awake because she always goes back to her own world when it's possible.
Falling in love with the act of falling in love. Realize you're "addicted to love" and tell yourself you wont fall so hard next time, but it never ends. You are your own worst enemy and you continue to break lovers hearts as well as your own, because you just want that fantasy love. That high.
