  • My husband, Jerry and I took a 2 week road trip to Glacier National Park. We backpacked and hiked for 6 days. We day hiked on Grinnell Glacier and also briefly hiked along the Highline trail at Logan Pass. We saw so much wildlife on the day hike to Grinnell Glacier. Mountain Goat, big-horned sheep, a marmot, a mountain lion, ground squirrels (they crawled all over us) and moose!! The views were unbelievably epic and more beautiful than any other place I've ever seen! We can't wait to go back!

    This video is from the hike on the first day to Grinnell Glacier and Highline trail. Backpacking video coming soon. :)

    Absolutely gorgeous. I would have cried too. Nature is everything. I remember the day I saw the Grand Canyon it took my breath away and I cried like a little kid. Not everyone understands how we feel . Thank you .

    You know I've been SO looking forward to this, and as usual, you didn't disappoint. Now that I'm older, I'm not concerned with the whole "macho" thing, so I can tell you that I had a little moisture in my eyes right along with you! And that from just watching the show. Can't imagine what you two must have felt being there. Thank you, G and J, for bringing us along for the hike! Can't wait for the next installment!
    Of course, you realize you've just added another item to my bucket list!
    Best to you both,

      I will! And have you noticed how the angle of ascent is never clear in vids? I've done some pretty steep rock scrambles, but they always look almost level in the video. One other thing- I've been asking all my hiking contacts what they use for editing software. I'd like to do actual vids instead of slideshows.

    • @HikingwithBraids
      @HikingwithBraids  5 років тому +2

      Yes its crazy how it never looks steep at all in video lol. Some good editing software is Adobe Premiere Elements, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro. Right now I mainly use an app on my phone called Filmmaker Pro because my computer can't really handle video editing software lol.

    I hiked many places in Glacier nat'l Park including the Highline trail in August 4 to 6, 2020... It was nice to see the rope anchored into the rock, but the trail was wide enough that the rope wasn't necessary at all, but still good to see it there.... Gosh, I miss Glacier nat'l Park and I hope to revisit again someday, but I doubt I ever will considering I live in Florida.

    We were there in July...I love the smokies....BUT, Glacier NP is on a whole different level...we only did day hikes...it would have been hard to travel with all the necessary overnight gear on the plane...the best hike we did was the highline trail to granite park chalet....want to go back...bad....still waiting on the Kephart Prong hike video..lol....😁

    • @HikingwithBraids
      @HikingwithBraids  5 років тому +1

      I agree, Glacier is unworldly!! You can carry a backpack on a plane (UA-camr David Gray has done it) although its definitely harder than driving I think, but next time we go we're definitely flying lol. I wanted to backpack Highline but we couldn't get a reservation for Granite Park campground so we'll just have to go back. ;) I haven't forgotten that you asked - I will hike it soon I promise! :-)

    I think Glacier is the crown jewel. I was there in 1998 and to this day it sticks in my mind as one of most beautiful places I have ever seen. Did you get to make it out onto Grinnel Glacier? The rangers would carry x number of hikers out onto it when I was there. A special moment. Seeing the ground squirrels at the iceberg lake was epic. I was eating a snack and one was working his way into my pack. How do you describe those little guys.

      We wore trail runners on this hike and for this trail they worked fine but for longer or different trails in Glacier, I definitely suggest sturdy boots because it’s very rocky. Since everyone’s feet are different, it’s hard to recommend a brand but I’d recommend if she has a REI or outfitter nearby, to go try on shoes and buy the ones that are the most comfortable with some sturdy soles. I hope that helps!
