- This video shows me putting the secondary bevel onto, and polishing the back of, a new set of Ashley Iles MkII Bevel edge chisels in my outdoor workshop.
Here I'm using a 1000/8000 grit combination Ohishi waterstone and an Eclipse honing guide. The blade is given a final de-burr and polish on a leather strop.
What stone, honing guide, strop and paste are you using?
Hi! The stone is an Ohishi stone, #1000/#8000 grit combination, from Classic hand tools: www.classichandtools.com/japanese-waterstones-toishi-ohishi/p853, The honing guide is an eclipse honing guide, I don't think they make them anymore but you can find them on ebay or as second hand shops, can also find cheap knock-offs on amazon. The strop I made myself, just a strip of Veg-Tan leather glued to a piece of plywood, and the paste is a silverline polishing compound, the green veriety. There was once a comment on here (can't find anymore) saying you shouldn't use compound and a strop on chisels, haven't done anymore research on it so can't guarrauntee anything.
Good stuff, what do you think of them as I'm considering a purchase at present
Hi! Overall I'd say the quality of these chisels is excellent, they take a good edge and stay sharp as far as I can tell. I purchased the set of 10 from workshop heaven (www.workshopheaven.com/), sadly a few had the primary bevel ground at an angle, but they were perfectly happy to take a return and are swapping the faulty ones free of charge. hope this helps!
@@danieltaylordesignermaker6028 thanks for your reply,it seems your not the first to experience the primary bevel issue and by all accounts once rectified they seem to be a very affordable higher end chisel, good to hear workshopheaven.com are looking after you as I've had good experience with them in the past.
