(As I write these lines, I lean forward in my leather office chair and the chair creaks slightly) It's the same scene again today... The monotonous dance of the trees rising out of the endless whiteness and silence. This little watchtower deep in the forest is both my escape and my chains. The snow-covered world beyond the windows feels as if it could swallow me up; as if I were to take a step outside, I would be lost in this white infinity. The constant stream of data, maps and graphs on the screens... Perhaps they remind me that my existence here has meaning. But sometimes I can't help thinking that those glowing dots and lines are the last ties that keep me alive. When I look out of the window, I believe that the world stops here, as if everything else is a dream. As I make a cup of coffee and warm my hands, I think about the old days for a moment. The crowds in the city, the voices, the faces... But now my only friends are the data on the screen and the cold light shining in my window. I have become the guardian of my own world, listening to the secrets whispered to me by the silence outside. But these secrets are heavy, very heavy... Today has passed. Maybe tomorrow, maybe the day after tomorrow, something will change. Or it never changes. Who knows...
