Wish you did videos on others who tried late night and why you think they weren't successful in the end. I remember several people throughout the 90's and 2000's that had shows that 1, 2 years or even less. Or a video on how carson daly lasted as long as he did, with format changes, etc.

Yeah, George Lopez tried to claim credit for the Fish Sticks joke but everybody knows that Eric Cartman wrote it.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm a huge Conan fan, but the question I have wondered for a while is if Conan was really better for TBS? When Lopez was on at 11pm, his ratings hovered around a million viewers. Then when Conan joined TBS, his ratings were roughly the same, and over time dropped significantly (due to the changing late night landscape, which Lopez knows a lot about landscape (reference to last video)). Even worse for TBS, Conan owns his show, where Lopez didn't. So was Conan financially better for TBS? I can imagine Conan brought more clout for TBS, and his online presence has been profitable (but doesn't Conan own that?), plus Conan only does his show so he'll be completely focused on making the show better. Still, did TBS hold onto Conan for so long to avoid the embarrassment of cancelling the show, or has Conan been a success for TBS?

It's a great question as to how to measure the profit from all the mixed media. If TBS paid more for Conan who brought in the same rating as Lopez it would seem like a loss for sure. As for ownership, what's the value to TBS of owning Lopez Tonight if they don't have any way to monetize it? Conan's TeamCoco website hosts clips from his NBC days and TBS and I'm sure TBS gets some kind of royalty and hopefully the site is much more active than the Lopez Tonight UA-cam channel. Now they are spinning off the Clueless Gamer and Conan Without Borders and do they get a piece of that? What will be the value of Conan's new HBO series? Since they don't sell ads there, how do you measure it? I guess they just measure who's watching what for how long on cable and streaming and divide up the subscription fees accordingly.
Also, Conan has probably given them the same rating reliably for 10 years, would Lopez have lasted as long? Hard to say.

Lopez had every right to be salty about losing his show, and I think he's moved on. Aside from Leno ousting Johnny everything else was network executives fuck ups. FOX was sniffing around Conan so instead of letting him go NBC cooked up the 5 year thing, thinking Leno would run out of steam. After 5 years Leno was still on top and the network panics and the dominos fall. And then the TBS execs fucked up too.
