well if you're not working in the fields that need these and saying you're not impressed, cool good for you....... but for motion graphics designers, especially in broadcast and commercial work, these are great when you need to update something that normally is super tedious and time consuming and have like 10+ people and things you need lower thirds for as well as accurtate data animation.

Speaking as a motion designer, yes, these will be useful. And no disrespect to @Bring Your Own Laptop, who did an great job of highlighting the features here. But compare updates from Adobe to other software, like Cinema 4D and Adobe always manages to underwhelm with each new version.
They have a near monopoly and they know it. So they trickle out features, because they know they can get away with it.
Useful summary, thank you. As a data journalist I have long been meaning to look into data-driven AE.
What about its performance? Is it any lighter or faster?

my mirror edges don’t work since i have ae 2018!! i did it just the same way as i did in 2017 but there is just no mirror effect! it’s just black not like a reflection... i really need that effect.. does anyone maybe know what i can do or what i maybe did wrong? :)
So is the create points into nulls feature something to replace using the puppet warp feature?
how did changed the font style by numbers isn't it always with (light, regular, bold, etc ) .. is it an option, something I have to do Or it just came with the font you use ??
If you don't have a bold face in a particular font, you can always try stroking it lightly in that same character panel. It's not perfect, but handy when you need a little more weight.

Question: Could the null objects get the exact points from the Dreamweaver information JSON file?
Can you combine After Effects and Muse? I would like that when I scroll down, my header animates into smaller rectanglar header.
The 2018 does not import setings from 2017 even though appropriate switch is ON.
Also does not work sync of settings to CC cloud.

It makes a new adobe file in your programs file, also it's usually best practice to wait a few months before updating anyways so that Video Copilot and Red Giant and other developers can make sure they update with adobe, and ususally big names like those get the betas before so an update for those comes out around the same time. If you actually purchased it from VC you can email them and say "hey, i updated and it shows i need to update my key for cc 2018, can you reactivate it for me please" Andrew and Matt are super understanding, I've had to change computers a lot and messaged them several times. reinstalling takes like 5 min if you have to.....

I mean its a great video thank you, and useful features for some, but I am slightly underwhelmed by these features. Thankfully there are some very cool plugins available. Waiting for the some breakthrough new feature...... maybe some node based feature along with the layer style setup. That would be very powerful.

How do you animate the line?
I feel like these are the hardest ways to achieve these effects/shortcuts. I'm not seeing too many benefits from this update other than for VR users.
Hi Jayster, I'm not sure if you've ever had to create multiple graphs with different sets of data but being able to link a JSON file and print it so that the graphs can be dynamically updated is a huge time saver, you should give it a go before and after! We have a free course showing you how to link a JSON file to a graph, check it out.
Last few updates of AE has only this REAL features: Freeze on last frame, Shape layer path connected to the nulls and little bit speed up and hardware support....So I dont see real update of AE for past 3 years !!! This is not update, we want real a usefull new tools or scripts, that speed up our workflow....(on aescripts are real usefull tools and these things has to be in new after effects versions!!!!!!...VR, templates, char. animator is only for 10% of users ... |:( :( Adobe Adobe....
Hi CZTUTORIALS, you should get in touch with Adobe or use their wishform! (www.adobe.com/products/wishform.html), If I worked for Adobe then I would definitely be taking your suggestions into account!
A leaked info last years: the adobe after effect dev team is just about twenty people, don't hold your breath on killer reworks or updates
Sorry, but Adobe or this AE dev team should search or listen AE users. There are many popular after effects artist, which wrote really cool features or tips for new tools, functions ar another things to speed up our workflow.... (for example Sander Van Dijk did cool video named "After Effects - Feature Platform" , where show very usefull features) And sorry, I dont see ANY of these features in last 2 - 3 updates...And Iam sure, that they saw this video :) I think, AE dev team dont look or listen casual AE comunnity...
And what about terrible UI change in AE CC2017 ? Absolutely cunfused user interface, icons, compostions in comp bar etc. instead of previous versions!!!! AE dev team thinks, "lets make some cool update - we change rectangle buttons to rounded buttons..." congratulation
I understand, but why is possible, that one unknown people from village code, develope and release couple of usefull scripts, panels for AE in one year...Adobe team in 20 peoples in two updates in one year release nothing usefull....
Problems in the first :30 of using it. I'm going back for now.

WTF they could have at least catch up with other comp software by making the main path directly per point keyable !!!
But no... they made a script to attach control nulls, pretty on the outside for noobs but I suppose all this setup breaks if we add some points to the path !

I would say that there hasn't been a meaningful update for many years as far as I'm concerned. They could fix the bugs it has but that doesn't happen they just create more! I will still be using CS6 as it does what need and I own it. Would love another yearly or monthly bill to pay for the rest of my life, but until Adobe actually innovates, and not just bells and whistles I'll pass. Please Hitfilm keep getting better!
You should consider using Blackmagic's Fusion.
I switched from AE to HitFilm, then to Fusion a few years ago.
Once you get used to nodes, you'll love it. I now hate layer-based compositing.
It seems so retarded compared to nodes.
And on top of all that Fusion is fucking free. And even the paid version now only costs as much as HitFilm.

Powerpoint is very restrictive in terms of what level you can take those animations to, you might be able to make the graph quicker but you can utilise multiple cameras, camera angles, scenes etc. I don't think they're even comparable in most situations.

move the missing fx in your 2017 cc Plugins and presets folders into 2018. it does this with every major update.
It just doesn't work. Tried all I could think of. In the end...had to go back to 2017 version.
according to Matt you may have to install custom, if that is an issue, email video copilot support, matt and andrew would like to know
Another useless update, but you can be sure there will be a bunch of show stopping, soul crushing bugs in it. This is why subscription software is garbage. You are paying for the new update whether you like it or not, and the don't feel a need to add any real useful features.
It's probably not a bad idea to just wait for the patches to come out that fix the bugs before installing the update.
The most boring features, doesn't excite me at all. Adobe has not created any real useful updates for years, the best stable program they last made was CS6. Adobe has got lazy and money hungry, look at the rip off subscription. Pay for the rest of your life and probably even if your dead knowing Adobe.
My respect for Adobe has gone, what we need is a developer to get a good program that competes with them so that they get off their lazy ass or go the way of the Do Do. I use the old After Effects and Premiere Pro as the newer versions only have bells and whistles that is just to sell to the new customer, but have no real value to experience people who work with it. How about making the program stable and make it actually faster, and make decent shortcuts that doesn't make the user click on a hundred places just to do something simple.
Another pointless-no one cares- "update" to After Effects, the slowest compositing software on this planet.

Hi, very helpful videos, thks! I just wanna ask you a very simple things, Is it normal to take 6 hours to render a 4K VR video of 5 mins? or it's just ridiculous....I got a proper gaming PC, GF 1080, all those things.
but I used AE 2018 to render my 4K VR video, it's around 5 mins, 30 frame per sec, I tried all ways on google, multi-processing blah blah, but nothing changed... it takes 6 hours. FOR GOD SAKE!!! there is no 3D inside, just 2D videos and 2D images.
May I ask is it normal????
if this is too stupid, pls help me, I need to submit my work...
