- The ONLY ford in history that almost replaced the mustang!...the ford probe gt is slowly becoming an underground legend in the car world, partly due because its a re badged mazda mx-6
with great handling, a mazda engine and chasis and a gas saving V6, theres never been a better time to buy a ford probe gt.

Great video and channel. You motivated me to get my Probe GT running again. I have 26 years of history with my Probe. Check it out. I have started to document in small weekly videos. Thank you. (I miss the sweet high revving engine and crisp handling)
Thank you for pinning my comment. My new All Probe UA-cam Channel now has 48 subscribers. Yeah! Hopefully others will check it out and subscribe as well. The link is: ua-cam.com/channels/V6UKDC2rm2sESAxUtFTVzg.html
Love this mustang
@@aidacuebas5939 too funny. Yep, it almost could have been.
not sure what to like more, my probe or my crown vic lol
@@SilverBullet93GT Cleetus drove the value of crown vics up greatly huh. It’s got a cop motor, cop tires, cop shocks, cop suspension.........
This car was so underappreciated. But good news it makes it easier for us fan boys to get it
I had a 99 ford probe and it was the biggest piece of shit ever. I could give an entire list of all the problems that car brought me.
@@banginbadger75 definitely a fun piece of shit though.lol
@@banginbadger75 there was never a 99 probe, they only manufactured from 89 to 97
@@zeeoracle The 99 Mercury Cougar was the 3rd generation Ford Probe. Kinda. Ford gave it to Mercury to stay out of the path of the Mustang. As far as the basic design it was going to be the 3rd gen probe. Just with some mercury luxury thrown in.
@@zeeoracle The last Probe was built on June 20, 1997. A third-generation model, using the same platform as the Ford Contour, was under development intended for release in mid-1998 as a 1999 model. When Ford decided to discontinue the Probe, this new design became the next-generation Mercury Cougar.[25] The name change was intended to attract younger buyers into Mercury showrooms, but this proved unsuccessful.[citation needed] The Escort ZX2, released shortly after the discontinuation of the Probe, was considered the Probe's successor. In June 1998, Ford released what would have been the new Probe as the 1999 Mercury Cougar.
Had a black 96 Probe GT back in high school and if I could find it I would buy it back in a heart beat. What a beauty of a car
I have a black one. WAnna buy mine?
Had a black 93’ Probe GT in high school. Pretty Bad Ass back then😂. Hatchback was perfect for my big ass subs that looked amazing with the seats dropped down; So damn loud my car almost fell apart😎👊. I also had limo tint in the rear and 15% the rest of the way around, looked Great!!
I know some that has one for sale 2,500 right now
I’m buying a black Ford probe gt tonight in Virginia 1996z
The car that was just begging to be rwd.
Ae86 Hachi
A RWD car like this would be kind of meh because front wheel drive has great traction especially in snowwwwww
@@tacomas9602 who gives a fuuuk about traction

I had a Ford Probe - it was so aerodynamic that there was one stretch of "private highway in another country" that I could put it in neutral and the car would actually accelerate to over 100mph on the long downhill portion of said road

Metro...... there's a real machine!!!! Joking. I have a old 90 Fox body a.k.a. Mustang in storage and a even older eighties Supra project that I can't get the time to finish. I haven't started my baby in over a year though. My daily driver is god damned Grand Cherokee 😫😫😫😫😫😫 Oh the ZX-10 doesn't count cause it's a bike. That poor machine barely ever gets a good beating though. You know what they say. Whoever dies with the most toys wins. Lol. My kids will have nice starter cars though.
2 Probe GTs an XJ Cherokee ( with Grand Cherokee driver's seat and a 242 t/c) and a Grand Marquis. I literally have all drive types between those vehicles. I can dig an old Fox. I like a simple LX 5.0 hatch with straight tip exhaust. I had 98 GT, it was a great car but I missed the Probe's handling, 7500 rpm v6, the odd ball options and usable space.
I love these!! They’re so underrated!! The styling is beautiful especially with those pop up headlights tho!! I might be getting a 97’ Probe this week!!
Yes they need 2 bring back pop up lights!! Soo 😎
I've had 4 of them. Such a fun car to drive. I still have a set of clear corner markers *brand new* if you want em.
Pay the shipping and they're yours.
Brian Chapman clear markers looked so sexy on white and sliver cars!
andrenegwer I ended up getting a 1993 Ford Probe GT with only 79,000 original miles!!!! And I’m the only 3rd owner!!!! I absolutely love it!!!!
I had a 97 loved mine
I have a 1993 Ford Probe GT. Love mine, and it's my "only on weekends" car. I have a KL-ZE from the JDM MX-6/Millennia. Needs a paint job, but, it's in great mechanical shape( light restoration project). Fun cars
I am hoping to do same with mine. Right now it is a “always in garage” car, due to repairs needed. Check it out and leave some comments if you have time.
I remember in 1993 I hit 135 mph in the Probe GT. So smooth riding. I use to pop the headlights to wave at the girls so cool.
Always loved the probe gt
Me too! I purchased a 1989 loaded tan turbo Probe GT right off the showroom floor. I remember that the first time I saw it, I was reminded of the Jetson's TV show. I drove it for 10 years when it needed a major repair. My husband convinced me to sell it to someone who repairs cars for resale. Even though I loved my new 1998 Sport Model Ford Contour which was also a 6 cylinder. I've always regretted selling it.
Thanks for including my turbo Probe GT on the dyno at the end, bro. 👍😁
Former 94 pgt owner here. Had just about every bolt on there was available for this thing too. Any one remember the probetalk forums? Lol
Probetalk is still there, not very active but STILL there! they are on facebook now!
I was on the forums since 02. They went down a little while ago and while they say they are looking for a new host, im not putting much faith in it. I still tinker with my 96gt. Currently KLZE twin turbo. One day Ill actually put my built motor in so I can really turn up the boost.
Daaaaaam probe talk. I used to peruse those forums back in the late 90's, early 00's. I had a 89 GL.
whitedartonpt come to think of it WhiteDart that name does ring a bell...
I was beaster_d on there, about 6 months ago I searched for my old posts from 2003 and they were still up. Lol. Had a black 95gt mtx.
picked up a 94 probe gt as a beater to learn manual, and tbh its so much fun i love the little thing as much as i love my sti
Happy to see the Probe GT’s are still out there! I loved mine until
It’s demise ( 1996-2003).
This episode makes me miss my probe GT. I had a purple 94 GT and loved that.
My father had a purple probe GT
I am in love with its style
94' Wild Orchid?
I had a 94 GT Love that car myself
It was the "Feature Car" that year and had special seats, tailpiece, floormats, and not sure the rest. I know as I still have mine - bought it new.
I remember back in 93 my dad came home with a brand new black Ford probe GT. Me and my younger brother would always take turns riding in the front seat because 9/10 times someone was going to test him on the streets 💪🏾🔥
1st generation GT Turbo it's now 2020 and I'm still killing them with it
I don’t see why people are so anti probe... I guess it’s because everyones still shook up that this car was going to take their “precious” mustang from them.
I have a 1995 Ford Probe GT that I got a little over a year ago that was rather rough. Since I have been daily driving it and did many things to bring it back to life including: Swapping a 2001 Mazda 626 (also sharing the probes drivetrain) KLG4 2.5L V6 into it, Giving it a fresh coat of laser Tinted Metallic paint (the red color seen in the video), lowering it on Yonaka coilovers and a staggered set of ‘Diamond’ steelies, and countless other small things here and there to maintain it. I absolutely love my PGT and think ford got it right with the FWD platform. If any of the haters drove one I think they would feel the same... just saying. If anyone has interest in seeing my build check me out on instagram @fazdasp333d
Also, to all the die hard mustang lovers... who lost in the end? V6 is taking over your ponys 😁
The Probe hasn't been in production for almost 22 years and there hasn't been any demand for a return like the Bronco... or the Supra, Challenger....
Plenty of Coyote and Ecoboost Mustangs on the road now. Personally I'm even for an electric, or whatever, Mustang when the time comes. I'm glad the S550 has an IRS.
I've owned a Fox Body and I miss it. Currently I have an SVT Focus that I've had for over 8 years, I love it and it's sentimental...it would be TERRIBLE at being a Mustang if they called it that. Apples and oranges.
There was at least one petition to bring it back. If they did, it would be disappointing because the bar was higher than any one company would allow, but by 2 companies.
Mazda had the KL because they were trying to make a great small 6 cylinder at the time. 7500 rpm, Variable intake resonance for staying in the power, forged steel crank in a split block/cradle no individual mains caps. Made for durability and a pleasing sound. Theoretically good on fuel, I've gotten worse out of an ecoboost 1.6.
They didn't give it the KLZE because of the Cobra. It would have been too close in a straight line and the Probe could turn and didn't ride like a horse.
While Ford put all kinds of crazy options in. Dual 1 touch down windows on the drivers side (I think Mazda owned this trick,) lights in the keyholes and single/dual lock/unlock with the key, battery saver circuit, (for accidentally leaving the lights on.) Special sculpted seats with air bolster and a tilt feature that didn't reset the position. Running daylights, dual airbags (standard in 94.) Premium sound system with a separate EQ, 4 channel amp, sub, and sub amp. I'm sure there's more, still weighed a lot less than a Mustang, 5 stars in the old car tests, barriers in the doors. Sooo much usable space.
I followed you.

Little known fact: If you wanted a third gen Probe, look no further than the 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar. Those were supposed the be the successor to the second gen.
Those dual overhead cams sung some pretty music
My mom had a 1993 ford probe gt... it was a fun car I do remember hitting 135mph in it and it had some get up and go
I did the same thing in my 96 gt on 75N in morning rush hour traffic before lol... I miss that car
Pop up headlights should make a comeback soon. Btw probe still looks sweet.
I had 3 2nd gen probes over the years. A '94 SE, a '97 base and a '97 GT-S. Super fun cars. Especially the GT's. Great handling, close ratio 5spd, smooth power delivery and fairly efficient considering it was turning 3k revs at 60mph in 5th. Great sound from the KL as well
"V6 is the future." V6 model gets killed off
FastbackV8 well yes for the mustang but look at the Ford gt EVEN THE RAPTOR HAS A V6 so really he was right v6 is the future
@@Bendejo6517 Yes, but I was just talking about the Mustang.
FastbackV8 agree to disagree 🙏🏽
I actually have an 89 Mazda MX6 GT, it is the sister car to the Probe. Same motor and trans. The V6 is what killed the car. It initially had a 2.3 turbocharged i4 that could handle a surprising amount of power. It came out of the factory with 145hp/ 190 ft-lb of torque at 7psi. Mine was actually pushing somewhere in the area of 300whp on a completely stock motor (not at the moment, stock turbo didn't like 18psi for too long. Currently NA. Yes I know it was stupid of me but damn was it quick, but will be getting a new turbo eventually). It was actually designed to be Ford's first FWD Mustang. But fans of the Mustang wouldn't have it. So Mazda took their blueprints back, and let Ford use their motor for another car.
V6 mustang yes but all big power JDM cars are v6s
i remember the competition was in 1995 it was acura integra GSR vs Ford Probe GT and the probe shines over the integra. at that time
I owned one of these beauties, yes, a 1997 GT, in the early 2000s. Loved it! The seating position, the handling, the power -- all stellar. I called it my BMW killer, and with good reason!
Sadly, it developed a mysterious starting problem. Occasionally, it would crank strong but not start. Waiting a few minutes might work, or not. On more than one occasion I had to have it towed to my mechanic. But by the time he got it, it always started right up. Never got it to fail. Out of desperation, he wound up replacing the ignition switch, the distributor, something else I can't remember, and finally the car's computer. Nothing worked. Had to get rid of it. Very sad. To this day I still wonder what it was.
When I was enrolled in the Ford Asset Program we had a bunch of "Flood Damaged" cars in the lab to fool around with. One was a beautiful 1994 Ford Probe GT 5-spd manual in Purple with a tan leather interior, this poor thing could never be sold to the public, or go out on a public road, but we hammered that thing around some rather large and expansive parking lots...
My very first car was a 93 Ford Probe V6 24 port 5 speed. Mustang can’t hang on a road course. That front wheel drive was easy to use to your advantage by simply sliding the ass end with the brakes while cornering and then allowing the front wheels to pull it back straight.
I have a 93 mx-6, 2.5 on a 5 speed, 105k miles, original paint and runs absolutely great.
My first car was an MX6 LS. Loved the styling and the sound of the KL is just sweet. I never understood why Mazda did not build it so as to compete with the Silvia.
That exhaust note purred in the gt
ive got 250K on my 93 GT still going strong just an awesome car i will keep forever..
Doug Walker I have a 1993 Probe GT and I absolutely love it!!!!
almost 230k on my 93 GT and still going strong. minor oil burning be damned! haha
Got 312k on my ze swapped daily before she quit on me. Still in the driveway, but no spark. Not the disty and I don't have time to mess with it now, but I don't have the heart to sell her either. lol
What was he referring to when he said the maintenance will be expensive? Guys?
Dan Romero no idea. My maintenance pretty much consisted of oil changes. Lol (I guess I did use Mobil1 though) only thing besides normal maintenance I can think of that is a regular problem is the distributor on the v6. Ford didn’t put a high enough heat rating on it and they burn up. Four options. 😀 Buy one from Mazda because they made them with a higher heat rating, or buy one from Orielly with a lifetime warranty. Or just keep buying junkyard/eBay/FB/CL parts. Last do the HEI mod. Get on probetalk forums and I think it’s a sticky.
I’ve wanted an mx-6 for ages, even the 626 has the same v6 they’re all beautiful cars
Xedos 9 and 6 have it too
One of my favorite cars I ever owned was a 1993 Ford Probe. Reliable, cool looking, and just fun to drive.
I had an 89 GT from new. It was a blast. Relatively cheap and easy to get 12s and still be a daily driver. Great on long drives.
Fun fact, it is actually “Ma-tsu-da” but the company thought it is difficult to pronounce for overseas customers, they named it “Maz-da”. If you visit Japan and wanna buy Mazda, they may not understand you, cause it is still Matsuda there.
I owned a ‘95 GT, bought it back in 2000... Hands down, one of the most fun cars I’ve ever owned... Bought a Mistu’ Eclipse afterwards and it just didn’t compare...
the Eclipse is a Joke Car!
I miss my '93 GT... I traded it in with over 250,000 miles. The engine and transmission were working great. The body started to rust. I wanted a car with more modern safety features, that's why I traded it in for an '09 Mazda 6, yep, kept it in the Mazda family. Both cars even came from the Flat Rock, MI plant.
I love them! I own four of them, three 94 and a 95. Parts aren't that expensive really but hard to find, yes. Every time I call an auto parts store they laugh and ask if I'm serious.
Had a 94 Probe 5 speed manual. I really liked it.
I had a silver 94 GT with a 5 speed. I loved that car. It had no rear spoiler and no rear wiper. I've only seen 2 or 3 others like that.
My very first car was a 1995 Ford Probe 5 speed. I believe that was back in 2006. I recently saw a 1995 probe 5 speed for sale and had to get it. It was very well kept and runs great. A few minor things need fixed mechanically but I plan to make it like new
I don’t own the second gen probe. But I do own the first gen. Just wish it was the GT model. It’s only got 42,000 miles though, and looks brand new. Bought it from my great grandmother because she’s afraid to drive now and wanted to sell the car. Hoping to keep the car for a long time Bc I love it.
Keep the one you have and save up like 2 thousand and you can have both. Just keep looking at Craigslist. I have seen 4 first gen pgt for sale from 1500-2500$ in the last month.

I owned a 1993 GT, and it was awesome! It was cold blue steel, and would change color in different light, as well as light angles.
I did have to get the exhaust fixed 3 times, because it was press fit, and kept coming loose. They finally fixed it, by taking it to Midas, and had it welded, LOL!
I also had to get the heads replaced, because of a machining malfunction during manufacture.
Ford was sooo stupid when they announced that the Probe would be replacing the Mustang, because they're two totally different cars!
After the backlash from the Mustang bunch, Ford decided to drop the Probe line instead.
As advanced as the Probe was in 1993, imagine what it would be today...

Some would argue the turbo 2.2 was the top engine in the first gen, the 3.0 was more a cruising motor than performance.
Yup. It's pretty much a known secret that the F2T was under rated by Mazda, and that the advertised numbers are to the wheels.
Wasn't there a 2.3 turbo thunder bird
Justin Wright yes different engine
The 2.3 was all Ford, sohc 2 valve engine, the 2.2 was a Mazda 3 valve engine.
As an owner of a 1989 Mazda mx6 GT, I must agree. F2t forever.
I found a 2 owner 94 GT for 1800 with zero rust and only 90 thousand miles. 👍
Where?
The way mustang is going it looks like v6?..they dropped the v6 completely in the mustang..
HorsePlay Motoring until they start putting the v6 eco boost in it
harpreet222 they wouldn’t do that unless the coyote would have even more horsepower ford guys will complain about it and plus the 5.0 is still a reliable and somewhat gas saving engine compared to the older v8s
Richard Skipper they would get so much shit if they took away the v8 option for a v6 but if it was an alternative with like 50-80 less hp than the v8 then it would probably be liked but I’d much rather see a hybrid v8 before a v6 replacing the coyote
They're not smart enough to do something that cool... Make a Twin Turbo v6 Mustang.
“ threatening the very existence of the Mustang“
The SHO: Am I a joke to you?!
My dad just gave me his 95 probe gt. Thing freaking rips even with 265k miles. Want to pull the engine and trans and build it up as much as it can handle. No power adders. But even as it is, blows 5.0 mustangs and big block chevys before the end of third gear. Thanks dad for driving it like a grandpa.
Please do not trash it and keep all the original parts if you remove any. These cars are so rare now you could double or triple you money in a few years, as they near the 30 year old mark. Good luck.
FORD PROBE GARAGE STUDIO really? 1995, 2.5, 5 speed is that rare? I had no idea. Love the car on corners (street track only obviously). Handles like a dream, high reving and plenty of fun. Didn’t think they were rare though
I had 3 mx6s at one point and I tell you my favorite car . Just blew up my 3rd one.
I had a black 93 got in the .I'd 90's. It was awesome, it looked more expensive than it was and there were not many around so people always commented on it😋
I do agree with mr. Random on the parts availability I own a 1993 Ford Probe base and to spend over $1,300 just to do a top-end rebuild. This is been my first car and I've drove it daily for 4 years and it is never let me down it is a car worth buying but if you are willing to spend the time to hunt down Parts it is a great investment
somekilling 1,300 to do a head gasket on a 2.0l is peanuts friend. I'm mean seriously. Do some research.
This car is great but only once RWD converted and that takes too much time and work to do. I helped a friend do it one time and its incredibly involved but the results were worth it. Only con I see to it is it cost a minimum of $10k at a shop or you can do it for $3-4k if you can do the work yourself. We used an IRS from a Lincoln, Wide Bodied it, Caged it, put in a 4.2 Stroker V6 with 330HP N/A, used a slightly modified T-5, and ripped it for days. Fun little car and made a pretty good Daily as well.
Cool video, I am wondering what other car has the same style for a price that is not so expansive. There is the Toyota Celica maybe, but what else? Any ideas?
Loving my Probe. Beautiful 93 riored. Greetings from Europe.
I owned many probe gts in my day and the issue I always had was trying to find good tuning parts for it... Hella fun car I loved then
I owned both the probe and Mx6. Both wielding the Mazda KL-ZE 2.5L V6. The Mx6 is my favourite car to this day. I loved every minute of it and hated to watch it go. I’ll always have a soft spot for that car.
I loved my 96 GT. That car went so good in the snow and shit. Then the older ones sat higher so were good off road lol I also had the Mazda mx6 but didn’t like it as much as the probe
The Mazda MX-6 and the Mazda 626, with the 626 being more closely related to the Probe. I had a friend who had a Probe with a MX-6 front clip and an eclipse rear bumper and tail lights with a home made steel wide body on it. Fun cars. I want to get another one. I sold my 4 cylinder base model back in 2010.
Do a video on the gmc syclone or Ford lightning 🔥 great video
Had a white probe gt 94 in my younger years and nothing but good memories😊
I’ve had one of these for two decades, Fun car. The Probe is not all that expensive to maintain but you have to know which parts to interchange with other cars/manufacturers. I do get some strange looks driving it around sometimes though.
I have a MX6 that's just sitting at my cousin's farm might have to go pick it up
I had a stunning black 🖤 Ford Probe 92 Manual back in the day when I lived in US, ufff just beautiful, until a 90 yrs old guy and his Mercury Cougar ran the red light at 60mph when I was turning left on an avenue, the car was totaled, not only beautiful but safe, I had not a single scrach
Good job men.
Could you talk about the spirit RT 16 Valves Dohc? Thanks
Ive already put a ton of comments on here but thought id add 1 more as far as what breaks on these cars and what most buyers should look out for...A total list as far as i can remember of Everything ive replaced over last 25yrs is: brake pads many times ,of cours..,rear caliper twice..alternator 3 or 4 times as oil will dripfrom valve cover on windings and cause these to burn out quickly..valvecover leaks dripping down engine and oil in sparkplug holes..i never replaced mine, im lazy..i just Carefully retightened All the valve cover bolts with alittle extra torque and the leaks in the plug area stopped ..i used a bead of silicone around the front valvecover to stop it dripping on alternator...other oil leak was from the oilcooler.used to leave puddles under car.,.took off filter and u will see a Large nut which hold the oilcooler on...tighten this and all the leaking stopped,,,no more driveway drips...my exhaust is original but the cat i replaced , it started to rattle, honeycomb went bad at 170,000mi.. O2 sensors at about 100,000mi and again at 170,000..You will get a check engine light come on when these go bad...easy fix, 25.00 a piece.
radiator hose replace..coolant sensor , VRIS and fuel pressure regulator solienoids and most all the rubber hoses...Replaced also the intake manifold big rubber connecting boot, mine tore...clutch slave cylinder gave out and clutch pedal went to floor ! simple fix... cv joints second set....steering rack bushings, when these went bad the steering had slop and was never consistantly on center, beware, these are a Major pain in the ass to do and get to! ,but its well worth doing and the road feel and precision gained in the steering will make u glad u did..Make sure you upgrade to polyurethane bushings!..inner tierods and outer balljoints...new font suspension A arms, man! what a nightmare! one side the bolt through the arm to chassis was stuck and frozen and had to use air hammer to push it out...still have original struts all around, work fine...still original clutch works good 200,000 miles on it..Battery replace many times, these last abt 5yrs like clockwork autozone crap..
timing belt kit with new tensioner and pulleys and waterpump...this is the second time replaced..1st time at 85,000mi by dealer, then at 200,000 by me...i was always intimidated to do this but i tried and it wasnt That bad.
the dealer belt had abt 115,000 mi on it and Still looked good, no age cracks! so people worrying abt belts going at 60k ,just dont worry, belts likely still like new...this is a NON interference engine..even if it snapped, u would have a tow bill but No major damages..instrument lights, i replaced with leds, cuz the originals were soo dim..leds look great..the bluish wite light makes instruments look a wicked aquamarine color and the needles and numbers are sparkling white...replace plugs with a Double platinum or iridium plug, never use a standard plug in these..Plug wires im on 3rd or 4 set, when these go ur engine will feel weaker and when really bad ,u will misfire...The distributors on this year and 93 WILL for SURE go bad and strand you..happened 3 time with mine, and twice where i had to be towed..when it goes ,ur screwed, nothing u can do..pay the bill...i recommend having a spare cheap working disty in the trunk along with a toolkit,so you can do a roadside swap and be up and running in 15 mins..i have a lifetime guarantee autozone disty, but thats not gonna do u squat when ur on the side of the freeway out in nowhere...have a spare, get peace of mind, the repair is quick and easy If u have it with u and THEN go back to autozone and get ur replacement free disty! well thats about it!!! the list may seem long but its 25yrs worth of ownership...remember, my car is stock, no mods no check engine lights are on, i drive it more gently Now than i did when i 1st got it ..its Never abused...original clutch should attest to that..I shift at either the torque peak at 4800 or when i wind it out for max accelleration i shift around 5800rpms where the hp peaks...no sense in winding beyond that cause power falls off ,ur not gaining acceleration..There is a nice bump in power and a cool change in engine /exhaust note at around 4200 when the VRIS chambers open....original exhaust.. engine never rebuilt, does not burn major oil, feels tight and rattlefree for its age..original struts.. anyway hope this helps anyone seeking to buy one of these..they CAN be decent reliable transportation, just avoid like the plague any of these owned by multiple kids, avoid modded ones cuz they are gonna be trouble, those are the ones with checkengine lites on and trouble codes up the yin yang... Good luck!
I’m 15 right now and a family member just gave me her old “MINT” 96 probe gt because she got a new car and, the car spent it’s life in Florida. At first I wasn’t as hyped as I am now to be whipping the probe. I just realized how lucky I am. I’m a lil nervous tho because the trans is slipping and its an automatic. I told my dad that if the trans is bad were gonna do a manual swap.
I love how the Mazda K series engine sounds and the gearboxes that came with the Mazdas of the time. I have its small brother the K8 with 12.5 compression ratio on a Mazda Xedos 6. All Mazda cars back then were made with driver feel and fun in mind. Even the unknown and underrated Xedos is a joy to drive fast (with lowering coils and a harder suspension of course) which I didnt have with any other car I owned or drove (including my Civic ESi and my fathers Volvo). It was sadly killed by the economic crisis back then.
I had a plain Probe LX with the 2.2L & 5 Speed Trans and that had a lot of bite for what it was. Later on I bought the Probes replacement, the German designed Mercury Cougar with the 2.5L V6 and that was a screamer, too. The Probe with the 3.0 V6 was the best of the bunch.
😂 I had a 92 probe 3.0 v6 and it was fast. I got away from the police in a chase Werth that car thanks to the handling and power, mostly the grip but the power helps pull away pretty good from the crown vic😂
Hey, is this car a good beginners car? I am interested in it but i am unsure if its good and not too expensive
I drove one of these in highschool and have been wanting to find a new one for a daily.
I agree with everything you said except the GT being easy to work on. The engine is packed so tightly in the engine bay, you have to have tiny hands and fingers to get to anything under the hood. I have had two 2nd Gen Probe GT's. Ever tried changing the fuel injectors on one of these? Lol not fun.
Great video!
I once saw an old-timer swear at a Mitsubishi 3000GT when he opened the hood. 😅 No fun to work on, these transverse V6s...
Daniel Wilson ....agreed! The Contour SVT had the same issue.
Changing the alternator was and all day job.
Distributor cap were crap on these
That was my first car that I got when I got married as a young mom I would drive my son around .I just love it.I miss my car 🚗
Had a childhood friend who's father had the first gen brought brand new. It looked so futuristic! Got to work on a second gen with the dreaded 2.5 with a mechanic friend in highschool. That engine haunted his nightmares but boy was it fast and sounded amazing. I believe the 1999 Mecury Cougar was supposed to be the next 3rd gen but the plug was pulled. Love my late 80s/early 90s fords!
Love that styling though, can see some of it in the RX8. I do like some FWD cars. It was called the "Probe" because they were testing the market for FWD sporty cars.
2nd gen is one of my favorite cars, style wise.
Had a 93 mazda mx 6 !Such a fun reliable car!Probably the best car I've ever had!
Was my favorite car as a kid! I've had 4 of em. They definitely should have been RWD, but it's a great little 90s car and a blast to drive.
1993 Motor Trend car of the year
