For anyone who just started researching the minimum is 450sq inches now (from her part 1) Also if u need a cover because your cat is to short but don’t want to diy depending on the binncage u get if it comes with 2 covers cover one half and put the cover of a cat litter tray over the 2nd half or put something like a long big thing fold it a bit and put the real cover on top
Very good! But I highly reccomend adding a food like hazel hamster to it so they get enough protein. If you can't find this try to find Carefresh complete menu, can't find that just get the next food they sell at your store. If that is the only food you can get a hold of you can try ordering Hazel Hamster or the Carefresh complete menu on Petco.com or Petsmart.com or Viovet.com. If you don't wanna order you can wait until your store sells another food (not recommended). I ordering Hazel/Harry Hamster on Petco.com but you can also find it on Viotvet if you're outside of the USA. Hope this helped! :)

Hey Erin! I was wondering, do you have to double the size of a cage (dwarfs) for two hammys? If not, is there a limit to how many you can have without causing stress? I have a few bin cages as backups just in case a fight breaks out. I want to have either some roborovskis or just maybe campbells.
Kayla Burney Opinions on how big a cage should be for two dwarfs does vary but from what I have seen most people currently recommend between 600 - 700sq inches as a minimum. You do need to be able to fit in two of most items including wheels, hideaways and bottles plus provide enough space for the hamsters to have time away from each other so those are things to take into consideration when choosing a cage size. I personally would not suggest keeping two dwarfs in a 360sq inch cage as it will be very difficult to provide them both with enough space and fighting would be more likely to occur. Bigger cages and multiple supplies will really help to prevent fighting between pairs :)
Oxbow only offers pellets for hamsters. They will also need a muesli with the oxbow food. Some great mixes are Harry Hamster (or Hazel Hamster in the states) and Vitakraft Vitasmart. You can also make your own muesli, they're many recipes online and on UA-cam 😊

Hi, Erin. I need help. My family want to move to New Zealand and I'm 14 so I have no choice. But the thing is, we have to sell all of our pets, including the Hamster. Also Hamsters are banned in New Zealand and I'm not sure if I could ever live without one! what shall I do? I'm also in the middle of doing my exams at school so if we move (in May), Its going to mess up my whole life and I have no choice. Also I wanna be a Dog trainer and do Dog Agility and Flyball and my dog is already trained to do this. We have to sell him and now if we get another dog, I have to start all over and train the new dog to do it all. The problem with this is that when I leave school the Dog that I currently have, called Coco, will be ready to do more advanced stuff and I will be ready for my career with him. If we move to NZ, I have to do this all over again and waste like 3 more years of my life. 1 year for when we find the right time to get one over there, 1 year for the puppies bones to develop and another year for training. What should I do? I really don't wanna move!! I'm also gonna have to slip up with my Boy friend!! :(
That's so sad!! I would die!! Try to see if any trusted relatives or any friends would be up to taking on the hamster and any other small pets etc... As for the dog if try the same or maybe a rescue?? If he's talented and your in an agility circuit at your next meet see if anyone would consider buying or adopting him?? Most people do that with horses at shows..

Well if she won't let you not much you can do, but as Erin said about a similar situation about an upgrade from the bin and the girls mom wouldn't do it, Ask why they say no and explain the reasons why you need a bigger bin cage. Some parents just say no to say it however, and while your living under her roof you must live by her rules.
I am having doubts about how big my hamsters cage is it is a ferplast cage it's 40,5 x 29,5 x h 32,5 cm with 2 floors I added some tubes also leading to a pod and then some more tubes leading to 2 blocks which is for bathing and her storage area. She is a russian dwarf hamster is this big enough?
Nope the minimum size is 60x 50 cm of florespace and when you calculate the size of your ham's cage you only calculate the FLOOR space wich means you can add 100 more tubes and 40 new levels but the minimum IN FLOOR SPACE IS 60x 50 and I personally don't think that 60x50 are enough, for me only 100x50 is okay but its up to you but get a minimum sized cage of 60x 50
Yes, it is a fundamental part of the hamsters habitat. As it's impossible to provide a hamster with an environment as large as they would have in the wild because our human homes just aren't big enough so they cannot get as much exercise as they need without a wheel. There are only a few exceptions for wheels and these are usually hamsters with medical concerns

Any cage that is the right size and has good ventilation will work. (I'm unfamiliar with snakes, so I cannot give you a direct answer)

Well if she won't let you not much you can do, but as Erin said about a similar situation about an upgrade from the bin and the girls mom wouldn't do it, Ask why they say no and explain the reasons why you need a bigger bin cage. Some parents just say no to say it however, and while your living under her roof you must live by her rules.

I am having doubts about how big my hamsters cage is it is a ferplast cage it's 40,5 x 29,5 x h 32,5 cm with 2 floors I added some tubes also leading to a pod and then some more tubes leading to 2 blocks which is for bathing and her storage area. She is a russian dwarf hamster is this big enough?
Nope the minimum size is 60x 50 cm of florespace and when you calculate the size of your ham's cage you only calculate the FLOOR space wich means you can add 100 more tubes and 40 new levels but the minimum IN FLOOR SPACE IS 60x 50 and I personally don't think that 60x50 are enough, for me only 100x50 is okay but its up to you but get a minimum sized cage of 60x 50

Make sure it does not contain foods that are toxic or poisonous for hamster I also recommend making sure it has low sugar

Yes, it is a fundamental part of the hamsters habitat. As it's impossible to provide a hamster with an environment as large as they would have in the wild because our human homes just aren't big enough so they cannot get as much exercise as they need without a wheel. There are only a few exceptions for wheels and these are usually hamsters with medical concerns
