  • This kit allows the use of Savage 10rd magazines. It also opens up a larger realm of magazine compatibility. You can see just how easy it is to install. You will usually need to make no modifications to the stock. A few have to be trimmed in the rear for the rear range to catch the inside of the stock but this is very easy to accomplish.

    Wow! Seems like I am writing a book but, it may help some others. I had to use some needle nose pliers to tweek the feed ramp to make the 10 round magazine feed. I put one round into the magazine and first tweeked the rear feed lips to let the round rise to where the bolt caught it and pushed it forward. However, as the round was beginning up the feed ramp the rear of the cartridge was not high enough and the bolt overroad it causing a jam. Tweeking the lipd until it wiukdcstay high enough was triak and error but finally now it works and will feed a stack all the way through the last ine. Just take your time and tweek a little at a time until it works as desired. Good luck from Texas. Oh, mine is a 6.5 creedmoor. Your 308 may have no problems. Via con Dios, amigos.

      I converted my own to a 6.5x47. Not had any feeding issues yet. its a slightly shorter cartridge so I was surprised at that. The stamped steel that these are made of those seams to vary a lot.

    Mine came today and is now installed. It was almost as easy as the video..seems to work great..The only problem is the short one is flush and won't drop free. I have to push out from open action or shake real hard.

    Got the item today and tried to install it. The silver washer was too short and the screw was just hanging by a thread on the action if I want the magazine to hold in the stock. If I tighten the screw really well to the stock the magazine won’t latch. Do I have to shave the latch? There is little metal left on the latch to shave before it gets to the spring. The back magazine shelf rides really well on the plastic part though.

      Thanks for your feedback Jee. The aluminum was does not have to be long. It nearly centers the bolt in the hole.

    Ok, I really fixed the problem of removing the flush 4 round mag. Basically. I cut 1/2 coil from the spring and spread it a bit. Now there is clearance to release the mag but it is still held tight. You might have a bit more chance to drop it when you don't want to but I'll take that risk.

    I finally received the 2 new "55185" Savage 10 round magazines which I ordered at the same time (5/4/23) as the Desh Magazine Upgrade kit for my brand new Savage Axis 308. Today I installed the Desh Magazine catch and it appears to seat up too far to catch the tab on the magazine. If I don't screw in the allen bolt, the catch will grab the magazine. I will try to find a small washer to match the size of the collar that the bolt slides through that fits inside the plastic stock. I am concerned about spacing because the allen bolt only screws in a few threads as it currently. Once I find a correct spacing I will use locktite thread locker on the screw. Please advise. Thank you!

    • @GrimstodDesh
      @GrimstodDesh  Рік тому

      the bolt does not threading far. It's a rather thin part of the receiver that it threads into.
      I do have shorter levers in stock. Most of the time though its an inletting issue of the plastic of the magazine.

  • @professor_thunder
    @professor_thunder 3 роки тому +1

    @Grimstod Desh Can you give your take on the Savage 55185 Mag vs Savage 55264? Savage shows the 55264 for 10/110 Axis 2 SA's while the 55185 is for the Model 10 FCP-SR. It's somewhat confusing with both being 10 rnd mags.

    • @GrimstodDesh
      @GrimstodDesh  3 роки тому +1

      That magazine uses a rear release lever similar to what other rifles use. In my opinion it is a better way to do it since you do not then need a strong springs for the magazine release. However were are sorta committed to the way savage has done it on the majority of their rifles.

      I had this same question. And luckily it's been answered. BUT, I noticed you didnt have an install video with tips and possible issues like you do for this and a few of your other products.
      Unless it's just not on this channel.
      I am interested but I have concerns. For instance the bedding pillars that come with the kit... I noticed a lot of people that bed and pillar their axis into a Boyd's stock have to profile the rear pillar a bit because of some issue with the stock. I want to buy one of these kits but am hesitant because these products arent offered separately which makes me think you really need the pillars for the mag catch to work properly and if the pillars are too thick for the small amount of real estate in the Boyd's stocks or need to be profiled in some way to work I may just end up leaving it alone.
      But if you can please make a video of how to install and troubleshoot to a small degree I'd be thankful as hell and I bet I could get my friend to buy one too.
      I'll even do a video review etc yo try and spread the word about your product.

      @@GrimstodDesh Installed it today. I had to leave off the pillar (silver washer as you called it in the video) to get it to work. With the pillar installed, the rounds didn't want to feed. Left the pillar off and cycled about 60 rounds without one jam in the chamber. Magazine is a bit loose in the front, as it moves around freely. More up and down than side to side, so I was supposed that none of the rounds jammed. I did have two rounds get stuck in the magazine itself about half way up, but that's not a fault from your product and need to research why. Still need to take it to the range and test it under fire.
