Will be interesting to testing done. Sopwith camel is one of my most favorite ww1 planes. Eddie Rickenbacker I believe flew a sopwith

Biggles and Snoopy are my two inspirations for the time being. I will have fun further down the track looking at what the markings should be.

Love it. can't wait to see the results of the testing.. Hope it doesn't turn out that you need to modify the design of the ribs after making too many! 🤞. Fascinating stuff. I keep thinking about the guys who were working this all out for the first time. It would have been great fun I guess if there hadn't been so much riding on it. Thanks.

It's definitely a lot easier to recreate than create and I have a lot of respect for those early builders. Being a test pilot back in the day would have been "interesting".
I'm kinda dreading the test results but I know there will be a solution if the tests are disappointing. The ply and glue are a lot better than original so that should work in my favour, but equally these don't look like they will support 86kg!

Very interesting build and testing. I am building a much more modern, and less classic, wooden wing plane. Can you write down the maintenance book you mentioned that this is taken from ?

Brimm & Boggess, Aircraft Maintenance. My copy is dated 1940. I picked it up from ebay or amazon. Another one you may find useful is the english translation of Hans Jacobs, Workshop Practice from The Vintage Sailplane Association. I found them both very good reads.

Be interesting if you have links to sources for plans, this manual and other sources around design and structure relative to this project you found worth looking at.

      Hi Kevin,
Pick yourself up a copy of the plans from Replicraft. They are based on the original Sopwith drawings and provide an overview on how it all goes together. It is where I started.

There are no manuals for this project. However there is a lot of period material available, too much to review and list even if I thought I had found it all! If you are looking for more certainty, best bet is to look at a kitset (manual, design specs etc come with the kit). Kip Aero is one kit supplier. If you started a kit today you will likely be finished and flying before I complete my wings :-)
