quite funny actually: Israel were winners in 1979, but declined to host the 1980 show for the second time in a row. So it was held in Netherlands. Next year it is held by the real winner ;-)
Here are my personal votes/rankings, i'am from the Netherlands 12 points: France - Profil - Hé hé mesieurs dames 10 points: Italy - Alan Sorrenti - Non so che darei 8 points: Sweden - Tomas Ledin - Just nu! 7 points: Austria - Blue Danube - Du bist musik 6 points: United Kingdom - Prima Donna - Love enough for two 5 points: Ireland - Johnny Logan - What's another year 4 points: Luxembourg - Sophie & Magaly - Papa pingouin 3 points: Norway - Sverre Kjelsberg & Mattis Haetta - Sámiid Aednan 2 points: Spain - Trigo Limpio - Quédate esta noche 1 point : Portugal - José Cid - Um grande, grande amor
It's also interesting to think that the Ottoman empire had ceased to exist only 58 years prior. Theoretically speaking, there could very well be an elderly Turkish audience member who was born in the empire. ☺️🇹🇷
01. Turkey (Love the ethnic sound, very catchy and captivating and the studio version is even better, just intoxicating. Love the backing vocalists' scarf choreography near the end!) 02. Spain (beautiful changes in rhythm and pace, lovely vocal harmonies) 03. Sweden (super cool instrumental background, catchy chorus) 04. Ireland (just solid overall with a lovely high note near the end) 05. Netherlands (great strong vocal and a catchy chorus) 06. Norway (so different and lovely) 07. France 08. Italy (would have put it two places higher but the exaggerated high vocals in the chorus of the live performance really put me off) 09. Luxembourg 10. Finland
Lucas Hammar - this is very good quality, and without commentary, which is highly desirable. HOWEVER, the aspect ratio has unfortunately been stretched to widescreen. The original Contest was, of course, not in widescreen - because it was over 20 years too early! Do you have the original source of this recording, before it was stretched?
solojinglesradio Sí, era una canción horrible. Me da vergüenza ajena verla.
Eurovision şarkı yarışmalarında böyle farklı kayıtların sebebini çözemedim > When Morocco gave 12 points to Turkey, the audience burst into laughter. Why wasn't it here? I couldn't figure out the reason for such different recordings in Eurovision song contests.
Italy is such a good example of how bad vocals ruin an otherwise beautiful and strong song. I love the studio version, maybe even more than "what's another year", but the live performance just killed all chances of winning ☹

1980 was one of the strongest Eurovision years in my opinion. Many, many good songs that are still evergreens today.
I love the Turkish entry. So underrated always...
Petroll
If you like turkish music. Turkey always forgets that you don't vote for your own entry. No wonder they don't take part anymore.

Nice to have this one without commentary as well. Now you can hear the fantastic openingtune without interruption.
George so happy there's no commentary, no I can hear what Åse Kleveland is saying
It is great!
Thanks i liked watching it again - Luxembourg was my fav.
40 years later the contest will finally return to the Netherlands!
quite funny actually: Israel were winners in 1979, but declined to host the 1980 show for the second time in a row. So it was held in Netherlands. Next year it is held by the real winner ;-)

The footage of lady on the bicycle was also used in 1976.
Althought it's a classical joke, Trigo Limpio's song is called " Quédate esta noche" (stay with me tonight)

Is there a “no Commentary” version of the 1983 Contest, that opening tune is amazing.
It does, but I don't have it. You can buy it here: eurovision-dvd.com/international.html#1983
Lucas Hammar I always thought München's hosting of the contest in ‘83 did not have a version without commentary.
2:06:17 Hes completly drunk, isnt he?
where did you find this version without commentary?
I bought it on DVD from a guy who sells all kinds of Eurovisions on DVDs
All without commentary?

It’s a shame Yugoslavia didn’t return this year. I wonder which language they’d have chosen.

They didn’t need to call Morocco to get their results, there are enough in The Hague to make up a jury
