- Step by step instructions for changing headlight bulbs on a Toyota Camry.
The low beam headlight bulb burned out on our 2005 Toyota Camry. The parts gentleman recommended I replace both bulbs because the new bulb would probably be brighter than the old bulb. Made sense to me. Video covers changing both light bulbs.
Tips on how to open and raise the car hood (for my wife's benefit).
I bought replacement bulbs (Sylvania SilverStar Ultra 9006) at O'Reilly auto parts.
What I enjoy about your video is that you walk a newby from opening the hood to completing the installation and testing of the new bulbs; nothing left to the imagination.
Thanks!
Is this both the simplest and well explained directions of any car video I have seen. You went from opening the hood, explained the importance of the locking tabs and the direction to turn the bulb and socket, counter clockwise. You missed one thing. Halogens to do not like the oil from fingers, they create a "hot spot" and bulbs can blow out sooner. A pair of nitrile gloves or even just one is your best friend when putting a halogen bulb in a car.
Thank you so much. This is one of the best car videos I have seen, ever, on UA-cam!
Good information, thanks for posting.
After running around with a headlight out for the past two months, I was beginning to think my luck was running out and I would get pulled over. I looked at several videos, but yours was the most direct and to the point. Watched your video, hopped in my car, bought a two pack of bulbs and replaced them in 5 minutes in the packing lot of Walmart. The only thing you didn't mention was getting my hands dirty, but your car was amazingly clean under the hood! Thanks for posting!

Thanks.
Thanks so much! I've watched videos before to try and change the headlight, but always gave up. I was able to follow your instructions and get it done this time!
Great job!
Thank you so much! By watching this video I saved the $20 mechanic fee to have this bulb changed. I am a middle aged woman, not terribly mechanical and was able to follow your instructions easily!
That's great, congratulations. I'm glad the video was helpful.
Great video for this 67 year old! Never did anything like this before and it was a breeze. Got 2 replacement lo-beam headlights for my 2004 Camry at parts store instead of dealership parts department. (much cheaper!) Replaced both as suggested even though only the left had gone bad. Just a quick note on the left headlight. Couldn't unclip the bad headlight because space was too small for both of my hands. Thought I'd have to move the battery to make more space but then reached underneath battery and lifted the harness connected to the headlight socket a little between the battery and front of car. Was then able to unclip the old light and clip in the new one without moving the battery. Thank you for posting this wonderful video!
I know absolutely nothing about cars, but this was extremely helpful and easy to follow - thank you so much!!!
Thanks Becca.
I love your excellent demonstration to replace the bulb. I am not mechanically inclined, but you explained it very well.
Thank you.
Great! This is the briefest and easiest tutor to follow. I like it, Thank you!
Thanks Kevin, I appreciate the feedback.
Thank you!!! This video saved be enough time to finish the job before it got dark out. (daylight savings always catches me off guard). I'm old and need all the help I can get.
Thank you...because of your video I replaced the bulb myself on my camry and saved me money by not having a mechanic do it for me.
Excellent video. Very good camera stabilization and positions. Very straightforward.
Thanks.
Thanks so much for showing us so clearly...perfect for Deaf people like me to watch how you did it, so thanks again!! This helped me tremendously!! You rock!!

Very kind, thanks for watching.
Thanks! Came home and saw my driver bulb had blown. Going to try this tomorrow. Wish me luck :).
Super good! I just changed my headlight bulb as you showed in the video.Thank you very much!
Thanks for posting and making this a plain and simple tutorial. Now I won't have to fumble around with my headlight or do any guess work. I can just go from point a to point b. Hope all is well out there in Utah.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. Things are roasting out here in Utah.
Thank you so much for this helpful video!! Was assuming I would have to take out the whole headlight housing!! Got it done in about 15 minutes on my 2002 Camry!! The one near the battery was a tad harder because of the small space but got it done!! Again, thanks so much!!
This is great and easy to follow along. I just got my bulb replaced but wanted to learn how I could do it myself. Now I know!
thanks bud, upgrading grandmas halogens to leds. The world and I appreciate your video.
Thanks Jack for watching.
Very helpful! I was able to replace my burnt out bulb myself thanks to you. Thank you!
Thank you! Instructions very easy to follow! Worked out great. FYI for my 2005 Camry I replaced the low power headlight bulb using the 9006 Sylvania.
Thank you! I replaced the bulb in my Camry today. Thanks to your video, I was able to do this easy task. Thanks again for the upload.
Thank you so much! I was dreading doing this and had been putting it off and risking a ticket. This is nothing like it used to be on my old 1985 Honda, lol! You did a great job and the instructions were clear. Also, good info about changing both bulbs, I would not have thought of that (though it makes total sense and my dad is rolling his eyes and shaking his head over my lack of forethought right now.) I'll make sure to follow you so I can find you again when I need more tips on my Camry!
Great video - it helped me change both bulbs on my 2008 Camry in about 3 minutes. Thanks for posting and making it so clear!
Thanks.
Clear, Precise and easy to follow.
Thanks Brad.
Thank you for the simple, easy-to-follow instructions!
I didn't hear you mention in the video but it's worth noting that you don't want to touch the glass on your new bulbs, as the oil on your fingers will cause the new bulbs to burn out much faster. You can either handle them by the little nipple on top or wear gloves to handle them.
Good tip, thanks for posting.
Thank you! I was dreading trying to change it myself. I feel much more confident now.
Good luck!
Nice and easy. Would be handy if you add the model of the bulb in the description. Thanks for the instructions!
+Tiffany Woods
Good tip, I'll add the part number to the description.
Thank you! I could not understand the written instructions, but your video made it a snap.
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback.
Thank you!! because of this video changing my light was very easy. I have an 02 Camry and this video was spot on...especially about the fuse box on the left side. Mine was an even tighter squeeze than yours
+MzLeci
That's great, congratulations on doing it yourself.
thank you very much. really saved me a lot of time. who woulda thunk it would be so simple.
i was getting ready to break out the electric screwdriver for this . . . . thanks for showing me it was as easy as changing a regular light bulb!
Not sure about the new one draining the power statement, but it is recommended that you change bulbs in pairs. My guess is the new bulb will be brighter than the old one if you leave the old one in.
Good video.. your video saved me 30 bucks in cost of installation.
Great Post! I followed the instructions for my 2002 Totyota Camry and it worked great! Please post other useful videos for DIY work!! Thanks a lot
Thanks for watching.
Great job. Thanks for taking the time to demonstrate this.
+Lisa Flinders
Thanks Lisa.
Thanks for the feedback on the video.
Great video on precisely how to do this procedure! Thank you! Do you have a video on how to replace the hood on a 2005 Toyota Camry?
No, sorry.
thank you!
realized one of my headlights was dead last night.
after watching your video i am going out now to buy the bulb and change it.
i have camry 2002.
+tony k
Thanks Tony. Let me know how your replacement goes.
+iScaper1
When I twisted the base of the bulb to take it out, the bulb lit up!
I was like "what the???".
I don't know what happened. But for now the light bulb seems OK.
I don't know if this is temporary fix and the bulb will eventually go out again for good
or maybe the bulb wasn't the problem after all???
I don't know. Can you tell me?
+tony k
Maybe a loose connection??
Thank you very much for the clear instructions. Will do this after I get off work today.
Thanks Nikki for watching.
Thank u sir 4 taking the time for this helpful video. UA-cam is wonderful.
Very helpful video. Thank you for the tip re. replacing both bulbs. Hopefully by 2004 Camry will be similar to your car.
Thanks Suzy. From what I've read your 2004 Camry should be very similar to our 2005 Camry in the video.
Worked like a charm on my 2001 Camry Thanks!
Thanks Rob for the info that a 2001 Camry is similar to a 2005 Camry.
Replaced mine today with the help of your video - thanks!
Thanks Karin.
Excellent video....very clear instructions. Thank you!
Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks. Just changed a bulb! Very useful video.
Glad it helped
Thank you very much for the video. It helped me a great deal in replacing my camry's headlights.
+Prasenjeet Sengupta
Thanks for watching.
I'm not sure about any light bulbs on the car, but on these headlight bulbs I don't think it is necessary. I would just make sure the key is off and your lights are in the off position before changing the bulbs.
Thank you! Thank you thank you! No longer will I have to be a damsel in distress... (For my Camry headlight replacement anyway)
You saved me money!
Thanks Kandace, I appreciate the feedback.
THANK YOU!
SLOW AND EASY EXCELLENT EXPLANATION
Thanks for watching.
Very nice demonstration! You are very clear with your instructions! Helped me out a ton. Thanks!
Great, thanks for commenting.
10 years later thank you 😊 did it myself and to think the young guy at auto zone said he couldn’t do it cause the battery, bolts etc… would have to be taken out. No more driving at night.
That's great, I'm glad the video helped.
Thank you so much for this. I have to replace the driver side bulb and it looked like I would have to remove the battery or fuse box or both! This makes it very clear!

Thanks, I'm glad the video was helpful.
Thanks for the simple, straightforward video.
Just changed my light in 4 minutes with two kids! Thank you!
Great video editing. Just remember don’t touch the bulb with your fingers due to finger oils getting on there which can hurt the life of the bulb.
Very easy to follow unlike many videos here
Thanks!
Thank you for posting this video. I have the same Camry how much were the bulbs?
Thanks, it's much cheaper than hiring a dealer mechanic.
Thank you so much for the video! You are awesome, and to think it is just that simple to replace the bulb!
Very kind, thank you.
This is a GREAT video! You step by step directions are really HOT
This worked perfectly on my 2000 Camry. Thanks for your help!!
Great, thanks for the information.
thanks for sharing, saved a trip to the garage
Thanks, I hate taking our car to a garage, it always ends up being hundreds of dollars.
Thank you so much for that fantastic video!! Now I know how to open the hood!!
Thank you for the thorough video
Thanks a million. I watched other videos, your is the best!
Wow, thanks!
Thanks Amy. I never thought someone would consider this video HOT. :)
Thanks for the feedback.
very helpful. you are a patient teacher, thank you.
Thanks Abby.
Thanks for the video, But I just thought you should know that you should never touch the light bulb with your fingers, the light bulb will burn out early if you do that, I would remove the new bulb again and clean it with rubbing alcohol on a paper towel, then dry it with paper towel or microfiber towel and re-install it. When you re-install it, just put in the bulb first then attach the wire harness, that way it's easier not to touch the bulb again, if you want your light bulb to last a long time, then don't touch it your finger moisture will shorten it's life dramatically, and thats a waste of money.
Good tips, thanks for posting.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!
Thanks for the comment.
The process is much the same, the article I read said the low beam headlight bulb is located at the center of the assembly and to locate the black/green light bulb base on the rear of the assembly.
Thank you for this helpful video.
Glad it was helpful!
Wow! It's THAT easy?! Haha, thank you so much for this video. :) Toyota was wanting to charge ~$80 to change out 1 bulb...I'll just do it myself now. :P
Thanks mister. You're the best man
I have found that it is much easier to un-clip the wiring connector while to bulb is still mounted. By pushing down on the retaining tab while. at the same time , pushing down on the wiring connector, it drops down off the headlight bulb. It can be done with one hand.
Good tip, thanks for posting.
Thanks, I'm glad the video was helpful.
Should I disconnect the negative battery terminal before replacing any light bulbs in my vehicle?
Now I have a question. I just replaced my left bulb because it was out the right one was fine. It worked. But after I replaced the left one the right one goes out here and there. My friend says that it's better to replace the bulbs in pairs instead of one because the new bulb is draining the power. Is that true?
Great Video - one comment...when I make these help videos, I always try to show the part in its packaging with a description and part #, along with a place of purchase and price.
Good tip, I'll remember that for future videos.
very good. very clear instructions
Awesome, I'm glad the video was helpful.
Clear and succinct demonstration video. I appreciate.
Good information, thanks.
@iscaper1
I know this was 11 years ago.
But why not upgrade to the best high performance Sylvania silverstar ultra?
Or upgrade to led, but u want an led that’s not too blindly bright but still brighter than stock?
If u are, I would recommend Lasfit - L1 plus fanless led bulbs. They are design for perfect fitment and perfect beam pattern as the original halogen bulbs. And it produce a lot less heat as compare to the halogen bulbs.
They are 2 times brighter than stock. Which means they produce only 2000 lumens per bulb and 20 watts per bulb.
And u get a nice 2 year warranty.
Good information, thanks for posting.

Thanks Kandace, I'm glad the video was helpful.
This is BY FAR the best video I've seen to replace a headlight bulb. Great camera work and great narration. I probably could've done without the tutorial on how to open my hood though. Lol
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. Opening the hood in the video was for my wife's benefit.
This is really help full. Thank you for this post...
Amazing video! thanks for posting this video.
Thanks Anh, I appreciate the feedback.

+Tommy Cruz

iScaper1 I went ahead and ordered an HID kit for $30
+Tommy Cruz
Good luck on your replacement.
iScaper1 thank you, sir.
$30? Are they still working?
