  • After getting an extra aerial on the roof to pull in the neighbouring ITV region, this is the earliest of several Granada openings recorded back in the 80s. Standard reception was pretty grainy as you can see here, but much stronger when the weather conditions were favourable. Having seen the clip on another channel from a copy of the original, here it is again although the first bit won't play back in colour any more. The ident at 0:18 looks to be coming from a slightly wonky slide rather than their electronic clock & ident generator.
The music is 'Drifting' by Kevin Peek, from the album 'Life and Other Games' released by Ariola. He's perhaps better know as part of the group 'Sky' along with John Williams, Herbie Flowers,Tristan Fry and Francis Monkman (who also featured on many library music albums.) There's a clean version of the music taken from a vinyl copy of album at the end of the clip, but it was also released on CD by VoicePrint in 2008. (c) Ariola / Voiceprint
