  • The best way to get into a highly-selective college like UPenn is to understand what makes that university unique -- academically, culturally, socially -- and then to tailor your application so it seems like it's the "perfect match" for your past accomplishments and future goals. Top universities aren't just looking for great candidates; they're specifically looking for candidates who are uniquely poised to take advantage of the distinct programs and opportunities that the school has to offer -- in other words, things you can't find anywhere else.

Incredibly helpful! I’m a junior in Bolivia looking to apply to some of these ivies. Currently taking notes off these videos, I definitely don’t want to end up in a college that is too woke or that has a cold, way too competitive community. Thanks a lot for the info.!

PENN has tons of acapella groups, improv group, etc. But they also have practical clubs too.

Do you recommend applicants not submitting a test? UPenn is test optional and claims it doesn’t put the applicants at a disadvantage in the admission process.

A strong showing on a standardized test assures top schools that you can handle the courseload. If you only have a very weak SAT/ACT, it might be best to keep that to yourself and simply hope that the rest of your transcript carries you through, but you have just made getting in that much harder.

But if you come from a low-performing school, or a low-performing district, then your less-than-stellar score might actually make you look pretty good relative to your peers, in which case you should submit it.
