The windsceen needs to be removed and rebonded as they are prone to silicone contamination across the top ,the glass WILL be loose this fix will not stop the leak issue unless you take the windscreen out and rebond it , its a known fault with volvo, range rover, audi and mercedes

My '01 V70XC did this 4-5 times over the last year -- I thought it was a prank! Maybe the moon roof?? Maybe the gusseting by the hood (bonnet) hinge?!? Maybe a disconnection of a heater hose that fills with water??? JUST YESTERDAY I put my eye to the top of the windshield trim, and perceived inky blackness where there should have been *something* to block the rain.... I filled it with silicone -- we'll see what happens. But to come in and see your video is reassuring that this time, I think I've got it. THANK YOU.

Please make sure not to use silicone for the bath room or any other silicone that smells like vinegar because this is vinegar acid that is the result of the chemical reaction and will create corrosion. Neutral silicone is better, but prefer special sealant made for window sealing.

Not sure if I used the right sealant but there was definitely a depression in the gasket in two places. Looks like it came from the factory like that...
I'll wait for a big rain. Thanks so much!

While this may stop the water, the problem is really about the screen not being properly bonded to the body. The design of the body depends on the screen being part of the load structure and to do that it must be correctly bonded. Imagine if the screen wasn't there firmly fixed to the entire mounting flange. The open space would buckle like a biscuit tin. If the screen is only partly bonded, any stress could detach it and the upper part of the body would suffer reduced strength integrity. The windscreen is no long just a piece of glass to look through! Volvo know this and consequently they keep the lid on this dreadful QC failure and re bond the screen for you FOC. If the dealer is reticent, a little pressure and a reference back to Volvo should get it done no matter how old the car might be.

These Volvos suffer from primer failure on the glass which is why they leak. The windscreen needs to be removed and fitted correctly with the correct products as it forms part of the structural integrity of the vehicle. These windscreens will basically push out from the inside. Not good if you were to have an accident. Get it repaired properly.

Thanks for this. What year is this car? Mine is 2015 XC60 with sunroof.
Ive seen vids and forums discussing leaks. Could be the issue you've shown or bad seal along the roof line or clogged drain from sunroof seal. I appreciate you for taking the time to post this.

Your own sealant is going to make that rust more than it already is, unless you scraped off the old rust and then primer over it. The sealant you used is likely to just hold more moisture in that area and make it worse.

I had a serious leak for several years. Repairman said it was coming from the front windscreen. I had the screen replaced yesterday. The repair guy said there was zero bonding material on the top of the screen and he could push it out with his hand. Worse than that he said the front screen pillar was completely rusted away and the whole thing will fail soon. The back of the car is flooded with the carpet, mat and under carpet foam soaked through. Surely this is a recall issue. The windscreen replacement guy also said this is common in Volvos. Mine is a 2010 V50 which I bought new in Sweden.

l couldn't understand why Volvo didn't charge me when I took my V70 in for this fault, now it's all making sense, l'm a bit annoyed that the service manager made out that it was him doing me a favour. Anyway I have to wait and see if its stopped leaking first.

I have a leaky windshield on my XC60 and no glass company will remove and reseal. They will only replace with a new windshield. This is a very common issue and I feel like Volvo should stand behind this as it's a failure of bond from the OEM install of windshield.

This is absolutely wrong way to seal a windshield. DO NOT ever use any silicone to seal a windshield.

    • @szittyakurt

Why? I sealed my windshield the same, using gasket maker, although i did it from the inside too, not just outside. No water leak yet after 6 months. I did not want to take the risk breaking the windshield while taking out, oem windscreen was too much, aftermarket cheapo i wouldnt trust so i had no choice.

@@JoeCamTV I found this on Amazon. The shorter roll does two lengths of the window. It has prevented any leaks so far because it does not allow water to run in the channel. I recently replaced because on edge started to come up from the adhesive not sticking. A much cheaper option to just buy this than replace the window since I have no issues with the glass. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VZLVBKZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
