You made an awful lot of work for yourself. My first thought was to just use thin plywood to cover it, easy job. Pleased you got there in the end, looks really nice.
I love your perseverance with your projects you should be super proud of yourself and how you have both transformed your new home. The fireplace looks at home now and with the coving more cosy. ❤
If you wanted to put in a realistic fire insert with no hassle, I have an Optimyst fire - it's wonderful! Very convincing flames & smoke, but all electric. 😊
I personally think it looks amazing, and expensive looking to! You've done such a good job with your home so far with the DIY's. I need to be brave and get stuck into jobs like you guys 😁
Totally amazing transformation - you're so brave tackling huge jobs like that! Looking forward to seeing it dressed for Christmas. The expanding foam reminds me of a funny incident many years ago when we removed a gas fire from the wall in our old house. We used the foam to fill the hole left behind where the flue was squirting it in from inside the room - as it didn't appear to be working my husband emptied the entire can into the gap. When we went outside there was this huge brown ball stuck to the wall - it took forever to cut it off which was hugely amusing to neighbours 🙂
The “wood filler” you added the hardner to sets very fast. You have to mix into small batches. From the time you add the hardner you have 1-3 minutes to apply it and smooth it out.
We❤ll done Shade I know how much you wanted it for Christmas This is our 5th Christmas in our bungalow and finally I have the log burner (fitted last year) mantle too us 4 days to get it on the wall solid oak and hubby is 79 I an 75 no mean feat but at last I can dress it for Christmas!
Elegant Perfection! Major sophistication upgrade-less fussiness is always more. Blocking the chimney with the felt cap will keep your heat from escaping the house leaving you two toasty warm by the Christmas tree!
You have every reason to be ecstatic about your fireplace, it’s simple but beautiful. Well done 👍🏾 love your channel I like how you mix it up with diy, makeup, bargain finds, antiques, clothing ,basically a bit of everything. 🙏🏿❤️✌🏽
4:42 I used nearly a full can of frosted glass effect spray stuff on a window in our house. Windows open but no mask. Gave me headache for about 3 days straight
Hello, I really really like your videos, you are so amazing and you got taste. Everything is sooo Great. You are a super Team. Greetings from Germany and a happy new Year 🙋🏼♀️🌸
Looks good. Curious to know why you didn’t take the fire place off when removing the coving. On the principle of minimizing mess and making good. Can’t help thinking it would have been easier to build a fire surround out of MDF and wood trims?
I always think “oh while I’m doing this I should do x”. But sometimes you can take it too far and end up with multiple jobs all in progress at once and a house that is like a building site. Sometimes I get the balance wrong one way or another but I can understand not wanting to take on another job. Also I don’t think most people know how difficult it is to remove one of those surrounds.
I just wanted to drop a quick note to say a massive thank you for sharing that incredible fireplace transformation video. It was a game changer for me! Your idea of using the thin wood around the sides is pure genius. You've given me hope that I can finally update mine without having to replace the whole thing. I've always admired the inset black marble on my fireplace, but the outside just didn't vibe with me. Your video opened up a whole new realm of possibilities-I'm thinking of adding a design on top or perhaps painting it a different color. Your creativity has truly sparked some exciting ideas! The only drawback for me is that your video popped up just as I was cooking my dinner and I had to stop everything so I couldn't resist watching the entire video, even if it meant dealing with congealed steak afterward. But hey, it was totally worth it! Thank you once again for sharing your fantastic ideas. Looking forward to catching more of your inspiring content maybe even during my next dinner!
Awwwww Angie this is amazing!! I’m so happy it’s helped with inspiration and I’m really excited to hear what you do! The thin wood was definitely the game changer for me too (wish I just did it from the beginning haha! Whatever you will do it’ll be beautiful and means you don’t need to change your whole setup 🫶🏽
Hey! Absolutely love what you've done with the fireplace. We have 2 which creates a lot of draft in the house. Regarding the chimney sweep, did you go for the felt material or blow up version. 💖
Hey love! I went with the felt in the end I personally thought it would be less faff and it was really easy to pop in there. Though the blowup ones have fantastic reviews too xx
Thats a shame it messed up the wall. I have a beautiful wood surround I bought 2nd hand. It had a round fitting on both sides so it could be easily bolton to the wall. I chose not to paint it (oak) and instead used a wax and it restored beautifully.
This is the first thing that you've done that. I don't like in agree with. I don't like the black on the fireplace. They look like a black hole. I didn't like you messing with the character of the fireplace. I'd like to learn emblems and would not. That was on the fireplace it gave the charait. Reminds me of like old cottage. I like the way to fight your place was. I don't like you paint that black on the earth I like the other surface

Oh thank you for this.. I brought a fire surround for our front room, but couldn’t work out how to fix it to the wall.. It looks lovely..❤🎉
