- A short video to celebrate the special visit of the Saab Viggen and Tunnan to Southport Airshow 2019, and Blackpool Airport
OK so the displays weren't great, and organisers put them on the programme so late causing the sun to blind everyone so the jets couldn't be seen or filmed very well - they often do with the best items which is why I usually do just the Friday at Southport these days. Despite the issues, the Viggen and Tunnan are still a rare sight in the UK.
Wish the Viggen had done the slow speed wing-rock though - it's best move.
However, despite the gripes it is fair to say that the Swedish Historic flight put many other nations to shame with the incredible work they do to have at least one flying example of most of their retired aircraft - what we would give for a flying Lightning/Harrier/Javelin/Phantom etc...
In this video we see both jets in close-up at Blackpool airport with the iconic Big One rollercoaster in the background, taking off for Southport then a few highlights from the show itself before returning to BPL.
Finally they leave Blackpool for home.
Let us hope we see them again soon in Britain with tighter closer displays?
Always great to see the aircraft of the SwAFHF on airshows. Was happy enough to see all types of them (both Viggen, both Draken, Hunter, Tunnan, Lansen) during the last years. The double-seat Viggen looks just amazing with their green camo. Great video! Thumbs up! :)
Thanks again - This was the first time I have seen the camo Viggen. Even though the display was muted and on at the worst time of the day for trying to film it was a coup for Southport to get it.
I’m Proud of this old beast viggen, still set of car alarms.......😉🇸🇪
هذا جيل قديم ٠٠اين الأجيال الحالية منها ؟؟؟٠
Tunnan was built 1948, let that sink in for a while.
Haven’t seen these guys since RAF Waddington 2014
Me neither, and never seen the camp one before at all.
The Swedish air force historical flight were at riat22-23 with the lansen, viggen, draken
The reason why it was a bleak display is cos it handles different to the single seater hence why there was no wrong rock and there still restricted
That did cross my mind, the extra weight etc... I must admit I am still happy they brought the camo version because I have seen the silver one before.
@@airshowvision all i need to see is the silver one
@@airshowvision I also think it's due to the CAA opinion on vintage jets after the tragic event at shoreham. Plus they haven't displayed here for nearly 5 years. Good to see them back 👍
These should be at RIAT
Those crow's swooping in for a closer look and then oh s**t what is that leg it!.
It sure looks like a Tunnan. Great footage, not something you see every day.
I know where I'm heading in 2020 if they return then ;)
Let's hope for Draken also?
No its not a missile its a long range fuel tank
With the benefit of hindsight, todays pilots can look at a new particular design and just say "Yeah I wanna flight that" I guess pilots in the past, must have been a lot braver, because with no disrespect that Tunnan is an ugly duckling. But fantastic nevertheless seeing them continuing to soar and roar.
The Tunnan "the barrel" fighter looks really ugly, i guess they went for preformance and not design.
Any way both aircrafts were in many ways ahead of their time. The barrel with heavily rear-swept wings and the Viggen with a on purpose unstable construction which with the help of computers became a stable and easy-to-maneuver fighter. When they precented the idea of Viggen, they did not know if there were any computers or software that could do what they wanted to do. They had a vision that the planes of the future would take more help from computers, but going from vision to reality was another matter. But they succeeded and what a nice fighter Viggen are.
