Jeweller here. There were some big red flags from the jump.
First of all, tanzanites aren't nearly as valuable as she was claiming. With gemstones there can be a rare chance that you'll come across a specimen that's a unique colour or clarity, making it more valuable than it usually would, but not by this much.
Plus, jewellers insure their packages. It's just a given, especially for a larger company like this because there's always more to lose when a piece goes missing that it's never worth it to take the risk. In fact, there's an array of high value courier services that we use, ranging from some pretty standard insured package setups to shipping pieces with bodyguards and transporting in armoured vehicles. That way, should a package get stolen, the business can always afford to replace the item. The problem here is what they were asking for is in another tax bracket to what it was actually worth.
Those are just a couple of the big points but I could go on honestly. To someone who knows anything about the industry it just becomes plainly obvious that she doesn't have receipts/isn't telling the full truth.
Also, to Jordan's point about them shipping the stone somewhere to have it cut, most jewellers outsource their gem cutting. Jewellers and lapidarists/gem cutters are very different professions. They may seem similar but that's not the case at all and there simply isn't enough overlap for a jewellery business to have a cutter in house and vice versa.

A ten THOUSAND dollar tazanite crystal? Tanzanite is "only" $100-800 per carat. I genuinely cannot tell if she's straight up lying for the sake of the video, if her signifcant other lied to her about how much money he spent on her (even though they're, like, totally not materialistic or anything because they're hippies broooo), or if they just straight up got scammed
Edit as I didn't watch fully before commenting (I know I know):
Okay, that question was answered, but interestingly, that was definitely raw tanzanite. The Tanzanian government banned the export of raw tanzanite in an attempt to support their local jewlers

    • @zorro......
      @zorro...... 23 дні тому +26

I went to google and I found that for the 800/carat ones, there are those that go up to 10/11 carats, which brings the price to around 10k
The ones ive seen at this price range aren't raw and are usually cut already
But of course, none of that is relevant to this story because 10k was the price of the shaman experience, not the gem😊

from what i see online the export ban is only for tanzanite over 5 carats, so i'm guessing it was under that. Either that, or the "free" tanzanite from the 10k shaman experience is a loophole around the ban because it's not being sold

An interpreter works with live texts (speeches, presentations, actual people trying to communicate with each other), and a translator works with static texts (books, movies, poems). I can't imagine why the Red Cross would need a translator to travel to a specific impacted location, so the mom is probably an interpreter.

The price of the “crystal” was sus. And then the kicker was the image of the ring. That family heirloom? Did not look very heirloom plus it had an emerald in it. And most women would easily clock how much she pays for her hair and looks like she gets blowouts on the daily. If you’re not full of it you tell all the details. I wish people weren’t so reactive and not looking up the price of tanzanite and asking them some questions before writing bad reviews. It’s ridiculous they got free jewelry she can wear to Maui where it sounds like she’s been very often! And complain after they’re still recovering from a disaster! Revolting couple, omg!

On that last point, I can understand not feeling quite right going to Hawaii for tourism while they're still dealing with the aftermath, but on the flip side, that's where they get a lot of their income. If anything, they need that extra bit of help. So long as you're not being completely insensitive and complaining about some things being closed down due to rebuilding efforts. It's a tough situation, and it's certainly difficult to say which is the better choice.
But going and complaining about how inconvenienced you, personally, were, now that's something everyone can agree is the wrong choice.

My husband and I got our engagement rings together and also use them as our wedding rings. We got a matching set (identical rings but with different stones and mine has an extra center stone) from Zales. Mine is white sapphire and was $80 with 9 gems in total. His was $200 and is diamond with 8 gems in total. We have lifetime warranties for repairs, resizing, and cleaning. The only thing is if we lose it, we’ll have to buy a new one, but those replacement warranties are only for certain rings that are usually incredibly expensive. Why we would spend thousands of dollars on something when the rest of our wedding already cost us an arm and a leg is beyond me.

While it's true I'd want reviews from real people as a potential customer, if one person told me this jeweler lost my family heirloom ring AND the custom $10k Jewel they were supposed to add to it and basically threw up their hands like they couldn't do anything about it, I would run from that place for the hills at least until it was resolved and shown to not going to be happening again any time soon. I mean, that's like one person reviewing they found a rat head in their Happy Meal.
And the problem with that is these review pages can burry that kind of content if they want to. So I think it'd be a lot better if the people just thumbed up their review as helpful so that it went to the top, it would have been possible for that business to try to bury that review with like campaigns of their own. (Small businesses do it all the time on Amazon, so I feel like if that jeweler really wanted to they could)

I just feel like if these people had day jobs she would have brought those up, instead of self-identifying as a musician dating a tennis player, if she was trying to convey a lack of financial means and position herself as an underdog.
