"Midtown madness". I used to LOVE playing this game back in the day. No DLC and no bugs. You bought a game and it had everything you needed in it. The golden age of videogames was definitely the late 90's.
I love your music, man. Keep putting out awesome ambient shit, or whatever makes you happy. This year I was in the top 0.01% of listeners of yours on spotify, I love what you've done.
I was not ready for a chill Midtown Madness 2 montage from you! I played MM2 for so many hours back in the day - stayed up all night playing it for 16 hours straight once. Never got old. I still have it on my PC, I just haven't managed to get it working at 100% on Windows 10 or 11.
There's something about 90's-early 00's gaming that's just so peaceful. I used to play Microsoft Flight Sim 98/00/04 and continue to play FSX, and something about it's strangely detailed but simplistic graphics makes it seem so... warm and inviting. Much more than the intensely borked on about HD graphics of today. I still fly the same route I used to do back in 98/00 to this day. Portland Intl to SeaTac at dusk going into night, flying over the Olympics and seeing the sunset below the horizon, just so... easing and calming. We need this era of PC gaming back, gaming needs it.
When I saw the title, I clicked just to see if it might be Midtown Madness, and I about blew a blood vessel when I saw it!! I spent probably thousands of hours in this game as a kid. There was a huge modding scene with many thousands of custom vehicles and maps. I even learned how to make my own maps at one point...maybe that's actually where I got my first 3D modelling experience now that I think about it?? Utterly wild. I wish Microsoft never would have abandoned the series, but I guess it would be competing with Forza Horizon now if it did exist
This song give me the same feel for when im playing games i just want to explore, look around that world and live in it... Jet Set Radio Future, Sonic Adventure 1, Rage Racer, Sonic R Fuck man. It makes me feel like my younger self exploring these worlds without knowing how video games worked and what their limitations were. You nailed it. You absolutely nailed it.
Lately I've been watching so many videos named "SYNTHWAVE IN NYC 1992" etc and thought this was just one of them. Gladly I was mistaken Nice way to stumble on a new Podel video
I used to play this so much in the early 00s till like 2014. Back in the day, we also made videos with some sort of plots in MM2, but I think those vids are long gone.
I love that you chose the Cadillac ETC (Eldorado Touring Coupe) It's such a rare car in games. My dad brought me home from the hospital in a 1996 ETC and it was the car I learned to drive with. Such amazing memories with that thing
Oh my, this brings back memories. My parents have a photo of me when I was 5 playing this game. On the screen you can see the grey panoz roadster in the Tower of London.
The Cadillac was a great one for cruising around in. I did the same thing back then as a kid. The map / night made it feel like straight out of an Adam Sandler movie for me as odd as it sounds lmao
I thought at first that this was just something you made in some engine, then I thought maybe this is some form of Carmageddon mod, then I recognised the barrier at 0:56 like for sure I've played a game with that, then the wheels of the van at 1:13 made me think this was Driver, but I couldn't remember if Driver had pedestrians, then I recognised the way the pedestrians run and stand against the walls at 1:43, and I thought, is this Crazy Taxi or something? Then finally I scrolled down and saw this was Midtown Madness. Insane. I actually still have an original copy of Midtown Madness on an Autosimulators 2000 CD. Like a dozen games on the disk, Driver, Rollcage, Midtown Madness, god knows what else. Crazy to think that it's been so long since I've thought about this game that I couldnt even recognise it, and even crazier how all the aforementioned games seemed to blend together in my memory of them. Man, watching this video was such a trip. Things were so different back then. Thanks for posting this.
"Wait, you can download more cars into the game?" Me, a kid, in 2005, discovering the concept of video game modding because of a Midtown Madness 2 website I found.
The real crime of this..... That we have not had a SINGLE video game since where we could experience the brilliance of a 99 Cadillac Eldorado..... Probably because no video game manufacturer could even fathom how to recreate such a perfect vehicle.

Bro, credit the source of your music. People actually think you composed it.
You should\ve gotten the Breakable Traffic Cars Mod by SuperSecret and MM2Hook for ragdoll pedestrians lol
the scene at 1:12 was very emotional.
I literally cried
From laughter tho, but anyway
Pure Cinema.
Because that's more or less where the chaos started to happen, making you feel a strong laughing emotion ? X D
I love Midtown Madness 2 so much
I last played it like 20 years ago, I love it
@Podel I used to play it on my dad's old PC when I was 5 to 6 years old, it was a blast. I'm 27 today and I still play it sometimes.
The mods for it are so banging too. Before OMSI the closest thing bus enthusiasts had to a bus simulator was MM2
Worlds Sacriest Police chases PS1
@@Podelis this midtown madness?

@@woohoo2491 you didn't need physics back then either
The vibes I feel on this are uncalculable
unca- what?
Of course Podel would include his signature chaotic moments in the video.
ofc! i it wasnt, it wouldnt be him.
Immaculate vibes. Can you make one of these videos per week from other old games? Instant favorite
Good idea mate
i'm glad he made it home

I wasn't ready for the truck to go airborne at 1:12.
Midtown Madness 2's car physics are on crack, you can plow through a set of cars just with a sedan. Midtown Madness 1 had more weighty cars though.

I use dgvoodoo2 to make it work for W11, runs great at 60fps
I was wondering why this looks different than I remember. Apparently I was playing the Chicago edition. Played the crap outta this game
What the fuck I wasn't expecting you here
u played the first one
this is the sequel

Sonic 4
Midnight Club: Last Stand
The song in the video is the true ending end credits song.
Something strange.
2028
Supposedly, aliens are going to introduce themselves to us.
Reminder that the modding scene MM2X is still alive after all these years.
No way Midtown Madness 2, this game was my childhood man

somehow Driv3r has this feeling for me, among others. Love u Podel happy holidays
I played so much of the Midtown Madness demo. Used to love causing traffic jams on the freeway
You don't understand just how nostalgic and happy this video makes me, this is absolutely phenomenal, thank you
shit hits different when the physics are bouncy asf and the car clips through the ground whenever it turns
The average drive around Gloucester to get the main essentials

This is exactly how I remember my commute home from work when I was growing up inside a 90s video game ❤
First minute and a half was pretty nice ngl

Nice music Podel 💜
So I wasn't the only one that thought "wtf this does look a lot like SF"
Midtown madness, a beloved gem from a beloved era.
Sleep well, ctrl+alt+shift+f7 postal
The eldritch demons of nostalgia you pulled out of the burn pit of abandonware with this one...
The strange thing is going to be billions of dusty rubber door stoppers are going to be everywhere for some reason
Some of these shots are genuinely gorgeous man. 1:23 is easily my favorite.
Midtown Madness 2 was the first Racing game i ever played on the PC, i just wished it wasnt such a pain to make it run on modern hardware
The Cadillac was a great one for cruising around in. I did the same thing back then as a kid. The map / night made it feel like straight out of an Adam Sandler movie for me as odd as it sounds lmao
san francisco looking beautiful this time of year.
you made it so relaxing until it wasn't anymore 🤣
this brought me right back to driver 1 on playstation 1.
Hours i spent playing this game, good old days.

exquisite, even
Okay but I would genuinely like the music used in this video for my irl night drive playlist.

For anyone curious: The music is "Christmas on Dobuita Street" by Ryuji Iuchi. It's from Shenmue.
This map is giving me "YOU PICKED THE WRONG HOUSE, FOOL" vibes

Thanks for the heads up.

i loved roaming around in sf rush.
Ironic how the modern day San Francisco feels more chaotic than the mayhem that begins around 1:12
OMG THIS IS A MASTERPIECE LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Hopefully Assetto Corsa Evo can pull this off
So soothing

"Wait, you can download more cars into the game?"

It was MM2C by the way, MM2X was the second website I found shortly afterwards.
Just how I remember my trip to San Francisco in the nineteen hundred and ninety’s
Oh wow I was not expecting to see Midtown Madness again.
