Quick correction as I've been re-reading The Twice Dead King: Szarekh destroyed the command codes the moment he rebelled against the C'tan, not after they had won.

Omg this is the nicest thing anyone has ever said thank you 😭💕🥰
Good video, it seemed fun to do. Also good thing you did not mention the Flayed-Ones, "so-- some necrons see people and say i like your skin...."
152k subs, not monetized O_O nice
Ever see a Necron child? Yeah, they didn't make it through the fires.
Do moar of this! Omg amazing, my wife understands it now
Most things in 40K is sad, tragic, and depressing.
Except Orks, Orks are just having the time of their lives.
WAAAGH
Which usually leads to extreme cruelty and suffering of others. Also orks LOVE slavery.
@@coh2conscript851 yeah but _they're_ having a blast. In 40K that's as good as it gets. 😉

I definitely would love to see him cover all factions!

Just like Adeptus Ridiculous
Yeeeeeeeeeeeees!
If I remember right, the necrontyr mistranslated the deceivers name at first
They thought his name was the messenger
Small snafu...big consequences
Big oof.
Jeez, one mistake and it's all you hear about for 60 million years.
_Everyone turns and glares at the Silent King_ "...woops?"
"They literally call themselves Decepticons, doesn't that set off any red flags?"
@@xbleaksquidx you'd think so but here we are
You forgot to mention how the Silent King witnessed the approach of the Tyranids, went "uh oh" and proceeded to panic and wake up tomb worlds like a person trying to boot up a lab of 30 year old unused computers. But I would definitely agree to easing into 40k one faction at a time.
He did mention him seeing " Bug Boys" I think thats what's being mentioned.

Best part I read was Trazyn going to a planet to "borrow" something, and he gets an automated message from the sleeping lord to not steal anything.
All the while alarms are going off as Trazyn runs off with stolen swag
Trazyn Is the best character in 40k, and no one can change my mind.
him fighting with Orikan.
What they see: An epic battle of legendary status
What it would've been if they were Necrontyr: two old men bashing eachother with walking sticks
@@Electric_Fence_Pence
Trazyj definately has Ciaphas Cain somewhere in his museum.
this needs to be a series, just explain all of 40k to your girlfriend
doesn't even have to be 40k, could do 40k until she's familiar and then drop her back in the deep end with something like Battletech
Good news! XD
Im from the future, The dream came true
Great, now i want a full 40k series
Good news!
Even better news!
"And Magnus did nothing wrong."
"And there's also big titty Eldar girlfriends which I'm interested in."
You found a keeper.
Another channel I stumbled on recently, the bloke introduced the hobby via terrain building - more oldhammer styles in terms of make terrain from anything you find. The girl explained it as it was a more crafty arts and craft aspect of the hobby as opposed to a more rigid assemblage of models including current era GW terrain kits. So if you're looking at transitioning into the physical hobby side of things maybe look at terrain building as an introduction to the hobby part of the game.
(P.S. I own a few hundred of the original Necrons, they're sitting in a large tupperware container for a rainy day...dam,n they are expensive these days though on the 2nd hand market, glad I got into oldhammer 15 years ago when it was actually niche niche).
Link to the channel, please?

hello, just wondering what that other channel was.
Man as a new fan in India there ain't any stores nearby, there is a very small part of the fandom here, and models require me to sell my kidneys to obtain.
I've been mainly listening to books and imagining battles.
Thanks for teaching me all about the spoopy metal skeletons of regret 🥰❤️💀
its truly the most exciting yet simple story in the entire 40k universe imo
you have full power star gods fighting a war in the entire galaxy for absolute no reason
Best description ever. Apart from Trazyn, who faces life with hype and trollusion instead of regret.
No lies detected
I saw what you did, nice Dane cook reference.
You’re gonna love the funny mushroom men and the fish mech pilots
Orikan: "I hope you bring an army"
Trazyn: "You think so little of me, dear colleague. I brought five."
"If you immortal you need to find a hobby to not go insane."
-Trazyn the kleptomaniac
"I am already insane but I'm still found my hobby, collect the skin."
-Flayed one the skin collector.
*Trazyn the British museum curator.

The Twice Dead King books were absolutely fantastic! I listened to them on Audible and the reader was incredible to listen to with how he portrayed Oltyx.
It's definitely one of the most attached I've gotten to any character in the 40k books. His journey is amazing.

I got my now-husband (back) into Warhammer years ago via 1 am lore dumping at him. This started a chain reaction that got a bunch of our friends into/back into it, eventually briefly leading to two of them doing writing or illustration work for GW. And all because I have extremely good and normal taste in mid-cuddle conversation topics.
this needs to be a series going through all the factions
Oh Emperor please lol
The amount of times I audibly shouted, “SHE FUCKING GETS IT!” Is a testament to your ability to summarize this incredibly complex setting, as well as the intelligence of your partner.
I think she also have a healthy swath of nerdy contexts that help. :)
You didnt shout at all
I can’t believe you never mentioned the one trial Tryzan got into.
Basically his ultra mega arch rival/probable lover Okran got into basically a bitch fight with him and they went to court. Okran is a cryptek and can control time, so what he did was more or less keep rerolling the trial back and picking a different judge till he got one that ruled in his favor. He did this like 20 times before settling on a task that was basically “get in the getting along shirt.”
My grand plan is to convince her to read the Infinite and the Divine and witness the glory of the greatest love story of all time.
@@NUMBSKULLS Gonna be real awkward for Tryzan and Okran when they finally get together and Tryzan steals both of their wedding rings or equivilants
GW needs to cut the nonsense and let them kiss.
Best duo in the game. You can't convince me otherwise lol
Trazyn: To be immortal you need a hobby.
Vulkan: Hello metal friends! Have you ever heard of Battle Mace 42 Million?
Im always greatful for these layman explanations, my friends are all deep into the lore but im just like "haha the orks can be killed by a guardsman yelling pew pew if hes convincing enough"
I hope to see more of these with all the different factions.
Also very nice that Mary is an FFXIV dweeb cause she puts things in terms I understand lmao
Adeptus Ridiculous, anyone?
....the Horus heresy in Sims sounds awesome
And from what little we saw, it seems....accurate....
"Monarchy [without death] sounds complicated" What a succinct description of the Necrons
You should show her "If The Emperor Had A Text-To-Speech Device" particually the episode "Storytime With Professor Emperor"
My BF has no taste except for me. He didn't like it.
@@Kfaircloth13457This is Heresy.
How could he not like something as glorious as that series? Please direct him to the nearest Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor for reconditioning.
I think one thing to add is that Trazin in the infinite and divine has a moment where he reflects on the biotransferance and what was lost. He states that it is like an ocean being poured into a thimble, that there was so much lost that it is now almost incomprehensible to the necron themselves.
There were a couple things you missed like the Old Ones making the Eldar and Krork(now the Orks) to fight the Necrons and C'tahn or how the big sleep was like turning a computer off if you were lucky, but generally speaking you got most of it either correct or close enough. Overall a fun little side video and i look forward to the next one.
The Eldar existed at the same time as the Old Ones tho. Maybe even co-existed and payed no mind to eachother.
The Eldar were created by the old ones to fight the Necrons. They specifically made them really gifted in psionics. Also after the necrons went night night the Eldar became the most prominant power in the galaxy till the biggest orgy ever.@@minibotas9496
@@minibotas9496 Pretty damned sure the Old Ones creater the Aeldari.
@@arespaulson414 They did.
@@arespaulson414yeah the Old Ones were getting absolutely wrecked by the combination of Ctan and Necrons.
"These are my immortal warriors, get fucked."
This now my mantra and war cry.
I kn ow the C'Tan were not the main focus, but I love the tidbit of Aza'gorod the Nightbringer killing so many enemies in the War in Heaven that his form was imprinted on the collective unconsciousness of almost all intelligent life, inspiring the fear of death in general and specifically the image of the Grim Reaper even in humans millions of years later.
And you left out all the ways in which Necrons can wake up wrong or deteriorate once they are active.
the most famous necron lady is called Phaerakh Xun'Bakyr, the Mother of Oblivion. she is the matriarch of the Maynarkh Dynasty, the single most militant of all the Dynasties and a total Queen.
Really enjoyed this and would 100% watch this as a series!! Awesome work, both of you!!!
My wife has been reluctant to learn about Warhammer (understandably busy doing her own shit) and she absolutely loved this as an introduction. The simplicity made it very accessible and she has now become more interested in watching other Warhammer lore, so thanks! We would both love to see more of "Explaining Warhammer to my Girlfriend".
Really enjoyed this. It's a beginner friendly introduction to 40K that I was able to follow, even though I know nothing about the universe.
May I humbly suggest some Luetin09 videos? Start wherever you like, but anything about The Emperor would be a good choice. 🙂
First time hearing Warhammer 40k lore I think I might found my new interest lol

@@rokkraljkolesa9317 First it's the lore through wikis, youtube and podcasts, then you get into the books and games, then you decide maybe I should check out the mini just to paint them, after all everyone says how therapeutic it is. "CAN YOU SLEEP - FOR 5000000 YEARS?!?!"
The Reason The Old Ones didn't aid the Necrontyr was becasue they were not a species they uplifted as
The Necrontyr were had a interstellar empire by the time they met the Old ones and the The Old Ones disliked their hubris I think or something like that
so that's why they did not aid the Necrontyr
Even worse. The initial part was wrong. The necronteer spread out though the galaxy in hope their kids will not have their og perils. But no chance. In their frustrations they butchered the native healthy races. The old ones saw that and decided: no, them evil. We will not help them, while it is only a pill from the pharmacy from their perspective.
The issue was that the Necrontyr's short life spans were ingrained in their genetics. The Necrontyr couldn't solve the problem, even after leaving their planet. They asked the Old Ones for immortality, but the Old Ones weren't just going to give the Necrons whatever they wanted and simply refused to mess with their genetics. The Necrontyr became jealous and declared war, thinking they might take the Old Ones' secrets by force.
There was also more going on within Necrontyr society as well. The dynasties had constant civil wars and infighting within the empire. The Silent King's solution at the time was to unite the species under one banner against the Old Ones, using the jealousy and the longing for long life as the motivating reason. The Silent King chose a pretty bad enemy target though, and the Old Ones outmatched the Necrontyr with the Webway and their psykers.
This was also why the radical C'tan idea pulled through as well. When the Silent King's war failed, the Necrontyr empire returned to civil war and infighting once more, with the Silent King taking the brunt of the blame. Thus the desperate attempt to accept the "Messenger's" proposal was also influenced by the political ramifications that the Silent King currently faced amongst his own people.
My favorite thing the Necron books elaborated on in flashes of memory of Biotransferance. The furnaces were constantly flooded with the dead and dying, trying as fast as they could to get new bodies. There were many who simply couldn't wait long enough and died in beds waiting in line.
Oltyx, while still flesh and blood was actively dying at the foot of the furnaces, he was entirely terrified, and his elder brother came to offer him assurance. "It isn't so bad." Oltyx, in particular, is of the belief he is simply an AI mimicking the previous, now dead and consumed Oltyx. It isn't quite clear if this is true.
It seems to change from author to author, but seeing as dedicated necrons books are very few and far between its a small pool to take from.
In turn its heavily implied yhe C'tan were the beings responsible for their sun giving them super cancer. They first found a C'tan energy cloud feeding on their star. The necrons are really cool and easily have many many nuances that can't be touched on in 20 minutes read da books
A favorite piece of lore, is that seemingly all Necron suffer from horrific body dysmorphia. Its some sci-fi term that I can't remember the name of. And if they think about it they go into a panic attack of needing to breathe, eat or open their mouth.
Hope more of this type of content comes out becouse it was both cute, fun and intressting
12:38 ctans can die, but since they embody a part of the material universe, that has such gigantic consequences that it is always the worst options
The Necrons even killed one, but it unleashed the flayer virus before it died
@@Karzahni-fz6bt IIRC it had other consequences too, I do not rember that well and it could be fannon that I god confused

@@Karzahni-fz6bt I do not either
Can we just appreciate how she sums up Trazyn perfectly here 14:52
Don't know if someone mentioned it here. But I do belive the reason the old ones dident help the necrontir was due to the old ones not wanting to tamper with necrontier genetics. Like they dident want to help cause it was against there morals.
18:02 that image is literally “The Infinite and the Divine” in a nutshell. As well as how everyone acts around Trazyn and how Trazyn responds.
Literally everyone ever: “CAN YOU STOP STEALING FOR 500 YEARS?!”
Trazyn: *smug* “No.”
This is a pretty good basic summary of the Necrons, very digestible for a newbie. The only thing I'd add is the fact that most Necrons are at least a little bit insane due to the long sleep.
I love Nemesor Zahndrehk. He went crazy and now sees all his enemies as just fellow Necrontyr back before the C’tan and tries to keep things civil and people meet the theatre of war. His right hand Obyron is completely sane but his so loyal to his good friend he tries his best to help keep things together while accommodating his friends new mental glitch
I’ve always figured that the necrons emerging on the other side were like burned CD’s. They had all the same original memories and minds, but they were copies of their original versions. Kind of like the end of Soma. The silent king saw his soul being eaten. I like to think that the true zarek died that day. The man who walked into to that furnace never came out. His body was destroyed, and his soul was eaten. He died horribly, and not even his ghost still exists. The Zarek we’ve got now? That’s just a copy of the original. And this is why they will never regain their mortality in the way they’re hoping. I think that’s about as grimdark as you can get.
Oh my god you're not wrong
I will never understand how people don't understand the meaning of the word "copy" in regards to anything digital. You act like it's always crappier. A true digital copy is a 1:1 duplicate. A prefect recreation. "But jpegs get worse every time you save--" Only if you're a moron and applying compression again...
This is honestly so lovely in so many ways, and I love seeing her working out the connections from her own frame of reference. Please continue this because it's great.
God that picture of trazyn stealing the cube is so accurate to his personality
I really enjoyed the little character sketches. That one was my fave :)
I wanna hear more about Hammerpump Rules
I just recently got into the series with a 9th edition starter set. Wanted to learn more about the necrons than YT shorts would give me.
By all accounts I’d say you did a great job of giving some backstory that felt both serious and goofy to help me understand it more whilst also giving some good book reads! Would advise adding some more books suggestions at the end!
Otherwise great job dude!
I've never subbed to a channel this quick, the Vulkan on fire was the limit. Please keep making these lol
one of the ctan was actually killed and it turned out it was a terrible idea because it had a horrible effect on the necron and the universe as a whole.

I have never truly understood the definition of a soul in either Warhammer settings. I think there was a Dark Elf, in Fantasy, that lost his soul but, was still going on adventures to retrieve it. I think there was a series of books about him. You also have Blanks in 40k that are described as not having souls but, the description sounds more like they have negative souls.
“…and emperor, and magnus did nothing wrong” I almost did a spit take
My favorite character is probably Nemesor Zahndrek who still thinks he is made of flesh and has a merry time crushing those rebellious rascals making trouble in his realm. His model also is dabbing.
23:27 yes ... their "full" story (the parts we know of anyway) is actually really tragic and presents a ton of philosophical dilemmas
22:36 the funny thing about that is they still have reflexes, like the reflex to breath when you are suffocating. And since you dont have lungs, you feel like you are constantly suffocating. But they cannot breathe
This is the 1st video I've seen from NUMBSKULL and I have to say, it was very funny and informative. I just bought Warhammer 40k: Boltgun and wanted to know more about this world being my first interaction with the franchise. I made a good choice.🤘🏻
