My favorite thing the Necron books elaborated on in flashes of memory of Biotransferance. The furnaces were constantly flooded with the dead and dying, trying as fast as they could to get new bodies. There were many who simply couldn't wait long enough and died in beds waiting in line. Oltyx, while still flesh and blood was actively dying at the foot of the furnaces, he was entirely terrified, and his elder brother came to offer him assurance. "It isn't so bad." Oltyx, in particular, is of the belief he is simply an AI mimicking the previous, now dead and consumed Oltyx. It isn't quite clear if this is true. It seems to change from author to author, but seeing as dedicated necrons books are very few and far between its a small pool to take from. In turn its heavily implied yhe C'tan were the beings responsible for their sun giving them super cancer. They first found a C'tan energy cloud feeding on their star. The necrons are really cool and easily have many many nuances that can't be touched on in 20 minutes read da books A favorite piece of lore, is that seemingly all Necron suffer from horrific body dysmorphia. Its some sci-fi term that I can't remember the name of. And if they think about it they go into a panic attack of needing to breathe, eat or open their mouth.
@@rokkraljkolesa9317 First it's the lore through wikis, youtube and podcasts, then you get into the books and games, then you decide maybe I should check out the mini just to paint them, after all everyone says how therapeutic it is. The BAM, your hooked on plastic crack and you have dropped like 2 grand in a year, and you have a stack up unopened boxes of models to paint and are thinking about starting a second army even though you don't actually play the game. Or so I hear.
Please for the love of god continue this. I've been with a warhammer obsessed man for 15 years, and yes, his obsession predates our relationship. I have tried so hard to learn about 40k, but it always goes in one ear and out the other. Something about this back and forth format is very helpful. Loving the gf's comments- Vanderpump and the Osiris treatment ftw :)
This is a pretty good basic summary of the Necrons, very digestible for a newbie. The only thing I'd add is the fact that most Necrons are at least a little bit insane due to the long sleep.
There's hope in Warhammer. It's just the God of Hope will twist and stretch your physical form into something that cannot be, yet is, then use you to do menial tasks until you have expelled all of your usefulness in which you become a test subject or a sacrifice.
I just recently got into the series with a 9th edition starter set. Wanted to learn more about the necrons than YT shorts would give me. By all accounts I’d say you did a great job of giving some backstory that felt both serious and goofy to help me understand it more whilst also giving some good book reads! Would advise adding some more books suggestions at the end! Otherwise great job dude!
22:36 the funny thing about that is they still have reflexes, like the reflex to breath when you are suffocating. And since you dont have lungs, you feel like you are constantly suffocating. But they cannot breathe
This is honestly so lovely in so many ways, and I love seeing her working out the connections from her own frame of reference. Please continue this because it's great.

The Reason The Old Ones didn't aid the Necrontyr was becasue they were not a species they uplifted as The Necrontyr were had a interstellar empire by the time they met the Old ones and the The Old Ones disliked their hubris I think or something like that so that's why they did not aid the Necrontyr
Even worse. The initial part was wrong. The necronteer spread out though the galaxy in hope their kids will not have their og perils. But no chance. In their frustrations they butchered the native healthy races. The old ones saw that and decided: no, them evil. We will not help them, while it is only a pill from the pharmacy from their perspective.
The issue was that the Necrontyr's short life spans were ingrained in their genetics. The Necrontyr couldn't solve the problem, even after leaving their planet. They asked the Old Ones for immortality, but the Old Ones weren't just going to give the Necrons whatever they wanted and simply refused to mess with their genetics. The Necrontyr became jealous and declared war, thinking they might take the Old Ones' secrets by force. There was also more going on within Necrontyr society as well. The dynasties had constant civil wars and infighting within the empire. The Silent King's solution at the time was to unite the species under one banner against the Old Ones, using the jealousy and the longing for long life as the motivating reason. The Silent King chose a pretty bad enemy target though, and the Old Ones outmatched the Necrontyr with the Webway and their psykers. This was also why the radical C'tan idea pulled through as well. When the Silent King's war failed, the Necrontyr empire returned to civil war and infighting once more, with the Silent King taking the brunt of the blame. Thus the desperate attempt to accept the "Messenger's" proposal was also influenced by the political ramifications that the Silent King currently faced amongst his own people.
My favorite character is probably Nemesor Zahndrek who still thinks he is made of flesh and has a merry time crushing those rebellious rascals making trouble in his realm. His model also is dabbing.
Additional content for Necrons to think about. - The Flayer Curse, where nercons go mad and believe they need to eat flesh. And go insane wearing the skin of their victims and attempting to eat their flesh (remember they are pretty much skeletal robots, so all this achieves is a complete mess) and this act is seen as infectious, so any necron showing signs are either locked away or destroyed. - The reawakening, due to the 'nids. And the awakening way faster then intended which due to the rushed nature most are waking up completely fragmented and at a fraction of their prior ability. (Remember these are a race that tore gods apart, if they were full strength nobody in the galaxy would have a fun time, apart from orks, because orks) - The raiding and decay of their tombs, which they have lost billions to due to time. tombs colapsing, eldar/mechanicus raiding the tombs, etc. I really like the format of this, keep up the good work.
One of my favorite things about the neurons is that they can do magic with magic. They have been alive so long that they have completely mastered the material world and can basically force things like fireballs into existence by calculating how a fireball is made with math and then forcing the world to make it happen
I'm also new to Warhammer I've gotten into it about 4 months ago. I think my favorite faction is probably the sister's of battle or the black templars.
Love the video, it sounds like when I explained Necrons to my partner XD Though I’m a little sad you didn’t mention Nemersor Zandrekh, arguably the funniest Necron
This was both entertaining and informative, please make a series out of this!!! :D I need it all. Inquisition, Astra Militarum, Tyranids, Orks and so on.
Since you started with the Necrons, you should do the Eldar (in general) next since they're the second oldest playable race (tied for second if you count the Kworks as the exact same as the Orks) and were around before the Necrons went to sleep
Would absolutely love to see more of this, definitely the Imperium of Man (since they are kind of the primary focus), and orks because the boyz sure know how to have fun (and honestly the way they work is so very bonkers).
I have never truly understood the definition of a soul in either Warhammer settings. I think there was a Dark Elf, in Fantasy, that lost his soul but, was still going on adventures to retrieve it. I think there was a series of books about him. You also have Blanks in 40k that are described as not having souls but, the description sounds more like they have negative souls.
Don't know if someone mentioned it here. But I do belive the reason the old ones dident help the necrontir was due to the old ones not wanting to tamper with necrontier genetics. Like they dident want to help cause it was against there morals.
My understanding of the 'soul' in Warhammer 40k, is that it represents your connection to the Warp, which itself is the connection to the summation of the emotions and desires of all who have souls.
This is the 1st video I've seen from NUMBSKULL and I have to say, it was very funny and informative. I just bought Warhammer 40k: Boltgun and wanted to know more about this world being my first interaction with the franchise. I made a good choice.🤘🏻
one of the ctan was actually killed and it turned out it was a terrible idea because it had a horrible effect on the necron and the universe as a whole.
I’ve always figured that the necrons emerging on the other side were like burned CD’s. They had all the same original memories and minds, but they were copies of their original versions. Kind of like the end of Soma. The silent king saw his soul being eaten. I like to think that the true zarek died that day. The man who walked into to that furnace never came out. His body was destroyed, and his soul was eaten. He died horribly, and not even his ghost still exists. The Zarek we’ve got now? That’s just a copy of the original. And this is why they will never regain their mortality in the way they’re hoping. I think that’s about as grimdark as you can get.
I will never understand how people don't understand the meaning of the word "copy" in regards to anything digital. You act like it's always crappier. A true digital copy is a 1:1 duplicate. A prefect recreation. "But jpegs get worse every time you save--" Only if you're a moron and applying compression again...
That girl is the embodiment of ADHD and I commend your patience and skill in bringing her antics back to the topic😂! Great and concise video. As someone interested but outside the fandom, I Appreciate it greatly.
I really hope you do more of these, seeing people who are big into 40k explaining it to new people is always a treat. It's so great that the Necrons are simultaneously the most and least human faction in 40k, even aside from how often they are Big Relatable, especially to neurodivergent peeps.
God this is so fun to listen to! She is actually intrested in 40K and the way you explain it is such a good refresher for people (me) who haven't done alot of research in a while about the 40K universe
In Warhammer a soul is a connection to energy that travels to you, some others have a bigger connection (magnus, the emperor, mephiston etc) others just don't have any but a void (blanks who have a soul but reversed like inside out) Pd:did she call the deceiver republican...wtf..
@@blakethesnek1 well yeah it just give me whiplash with all the BS twitter is putting on us Warhammer fans, like with extra credit trash video about... comparing black people with Orks...at least this was a joke hahaha
Rofl. Tell me you don't understand the modern American political landscape without telling me...... Republicans and Democrats are NOT the same, and she was absolutely correct. Hands down, the funniest joke in the video.
Calling the deceiver a republican, comparing necron infighting to Americans and asking if they have polyamorous relationships. I hate politics but damn, why does it always seem to seep into everything nowadays...
Yeah. There are channels on here that are made specifically for talking about politics, and that’s fine, but on stuff like this, real world politics need to be left out. But some people’s personalities are based on nothing but their politics, and they can’t help but put their politics into everything they say or do. It’s sad honestly, and really, really annoying.
The deceiver is just politicians in general, just lying for their own benifit. And ye, comparing stuff to real world modern politics is a bit annoying.
I like how she makes a comment about a political party she doesn't like because this guy was called the deceiver, as if the other party, or any party, doesn't deceive. You're hearing about this being of pure energy that was given a metal body by extraterrestrials, and you think "Republicans" lol? Numbskulls, she ain't the one bro.
Necron technology is so goofy. Weapons that age the target, actual dimensional rifts, faster than light travel, mini collapsing suns as weapon fuel, weapons that cause yoru atoms to repel each other, effectively causing you to dissolve, actual time travel with chronomancers. And don't get me started on trazyn snd his museum that has both people and things in stasis.
The necrons are really cool and easily have many many nuances that can't be touched on in 20 minutes read da books
A favorite piece of lore, is that seemingly all Necron suffer from horrific body dysmorphia. Its some sci-fi term that I can't remember the name of. And if they think about it they go into a panic attack of needing to breathe, eat or open their mouth.
12:38 ctans can die, but since they embody a part of the material universe, that has such gigantic consequences that it is always the worst options
The Necrons even killed one, but it unleashed the flayer virus before it died
@@Karzahni-fz6bt IIRC it had other consequences too, I do not rember that well and it could be fannon that I god confused
@@tumage8592 I would count the flayer virus as a pretty big consequence
@@Karzahni-fz6bt I do not either
First time hearing Warhammer 40k lore I think I might found my new interest lol
As a recent convert my sympathies go out to your bank account..
*Looks nervously at the Khorne daemons I've been painting*
as long as you stick to learning lore and not collecting plastic, otherwise your wallet _will_ cry
When buying a 3D printer is your cheaper option you know it's a tough hobby
To paraphrase Infinite and the divine "If you are going to be immortal, you need a hobby."
Hope more of this type of content comes out becouse it was both cute, fun and intressting
"The people who look like egeyptian mummies are also called The Cold Ones" is now one of my favourite sentences
Please make this a series. Idk much about warhammer besides the basics and loved learning bout the necrons this way
oh my god i love your profile picture
@@NUMBSKULLS ❤️ first image on Google when you type "goose with arms"
Love the explanation and her response of how she can relate the knowledge and his feedback of how accurate it is. Plz make more. I'm always interested in learning about warhammer lore 😊
The Reason The Old Ones didn't aid the Necrontyr was becasue they were not a species they uplifted as
The Necrontyr were had a interstellar empire by the time they met the Old ones and the The Old Ones disliked their hubris I think or something like that
so that's why they did not aid the Necrontyr
God that picture of trazyn stealing the cube is so accurate to his personality
I really enjoyed the little character sketches. That one was my fave :)
My favorite character is probably Nemesor Zahndrek who still thinks he is made of flesh and has a merry time crushing those rebellious rascals making trouble in his realm. His model also is dabbing.
I've never subbed to a channel this quick, the Vulkan on fire was the limit. Please keep making these lol
“…and the Emperor, and that Magnus did nothing wrong, and Tig Bitty eldar girlfriend” 😂😂😂😂
23:27 yes ... their "full" story (the parts we know of anyway) is actually really tragic and presents a ton of philosophical dilemmas
(Remember these are a race that tore gods apart, if they were full strength nobody in the galaxy would have a fun time, apart from orks, because orks)
- The raiding and decay of their tombs, which they have lost billions to due to time. tombs colapsing, eldar/mechanicus raiding the tombs, etc.
I really like the format of this, keep up the good work.
Just u 2 bouncing off each other is so wholesome.
One of my favorite things about the neurons is that they can do magic with magic. They have been alive so long that they have completely mastered the material world and can basically force things like fireballs into existence by calculating how a fireball is made with math and then forcing the world to make it happen
Just got into 40K myself about 2 months ago and I'm slowly getting my brother into it as well. So I can relate!
Favourite faction?
I'm also new to Warhammer I've gotten into it about 4 months ago. I think my favorite faction is probably the sister's of battle or the black templars.
@@DarksideGmss0513I like your style. 🙂
Sisters are so sick I can't wait to show Kari what they're all about.
@@NUMBSKULLS definitely one of the more awesome factions, no question. 🙂
In warhammer, your soul is like an extra kidney. It does stuff but you can live without it.
I need more. I love the drawings and your summarisation/storytelling.
This was so wholesome. Great video! And thanks for the Dawn of War nostalgia
Love the video, it sounds like when I explained Necrons to my partner XD
Though I’m a little sad you didn’t mention Nemersor Zandrekh, arguably the funniest Necron
Even more tragic was that some didn't survive the sleep cause data got corrupted.
Rip to the Necrons who went out like the hard drive that had all my anime on it
Ah. It’s always beautiful, when one partner introduces the other to their addiction, or start one together!
I love watching people learn about Warhammer, please make this a series if she's willing! Also, i loved the Trazyn song.
Don't know if someone mentioned it here. But I do belive the reason the old ones dident help the necrontir was due to the old ones not wanting to tamper with necrontier genetics. Like they dident want to help cause it was against there morals.
But yes, let's make Orks and Aeldari, I hope nothing bad comes from it.
I love how she basically describes trayzyn as the British museum back in the day
Like walking around stealing s word
one of the ctan was actually killed and it turned out it was a terrible idea because it had a horrible effect on the necron and the universe as a whole.
Thank you, I loved this! This is the first video I ever saw of you and it was so much fun. Subscribed.
Oh my god you're not wrong
I will never understand how people don't understand the meaning of the word "copy" in regards to anything digital. You act like it's always crappier. A true digital copy is a 1:1 duplicate. A prefect recreation. "But jpegs get worse every time you save--" Only if you're a moron and applying compression again...
Please, Please, Please, DO MORE! This would be a great series.
Please do more of these, this was great.
Really great video. The volume for the end credits always a bit too loud though I know it was meant to be a jump scare. Looking forward to more!
“…and emperor, and magnus did nothing wrong” I almost did a spit take
That girl is the embodiment of ADHD and I commend your patience and skill in bringing her antics back to the topic😂!
Great and concise video. As someone interested but outside the fandom, I Appreciate it greatly.
Warhammer content? That I'm already subscribed to? MORE PLEASE!
I would love a whole series of this. Fantastic intro to 40k!
PLEASE TURN THIS INTO A SERIES
This is some serious relationship goals right here
This was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!
I just happened upon this video and I wasn’t expecting much having never watched your channel but I was already giggling 2-3 minutes in. Thank you.
this video, I like it
ANOTHER!
I really hope you do more of these, seeing people who are big into 40k explaining it to new people is always a treat. It's so great that the Necrons are simultaneously the most and least human faction in 40k, even aside from how often they are Big Relatable, especially to neurodivergent peeps.
I wanna hear more about Hammerpump Rules
God this is so fun to listen to! She is actually intrested in 40K and the way you explain it is such a good refresher for people (me) who haven't done alot of research in a while about the 40K universe
In Warhammer a soul is a connection to energy that travels to you, some others have a bigger connection (magnus, the emperor, mephiston etc) others just don't have any but a void (blanks who have a soul but reversed like inside out)
Pd:did she call the deceiver republican...wtf..
Let's leave politics outta this. If she made the joke then it's not like we can un-make it.
@@blakethesnek1 well yeah it just give me whiplash with all the BS twitter is putting on us Warhammer fans, like with extra credit trash video about... comparing black people with Orks...at least this was a joke hahaha
pretty accurate comparison to be fair though.
Rofl. Tell me you don't understand the modern American political landscape without telling me...... Republicans and Democrats are NOT the same, and she was absolutely correct. Hands down, the funniest joke in the video.
Commenting a year later, just say that yall have become one of my most favorite Warhammer content creators. Keep up the good work, guys!😊
@@darthmalgus232What you call politics is just normal themes of discussion in liberal circles.
The deceiver is just politicians in general, just lying for their own benifit.
And ye, comparing stuff to real world modern politics is a bit annoying.
this was great to listen to. hope we get more of these
love that you made this and I actually hope make more dude
This was really good. More entertaining than most Black Library books. I want to hear more!
It's just a joke, lol.
I love necrons so much, they were my forst army and I'm glad you're bringing their goofy glory to others!!!
