"We are the abandoned one, born but now to die. Our name is Orphan. By our hand the world shall know redemption". Best boss line in any video game until this day in my book.
Haven't beaten the game yet, but pretty much every cutscene involving Dysley/Barthandelus were amazing. "I am Fal'cie My name is Barthandelus, voice of the sanctum and lord-sovering of the cocoon Fal'cie Your kind feared the darkness, so we gave you light You begged us for thw purge And now you spurn pur counsel? You must learn your place!" Is probably one of the best non-final boss quote ever.
I still find this one of the coolest final boss designs. I like the mix of masculine and feminine elements to the design, and that it’s seemingly multiple beings into one.
I love how he also speack on the 1st person plural "We are the abadonned one, born, but now to die. Our name is Orphan. By our hand, the world shall know redemption."
Ik Sure its different but doesn't mean its bad, I loved this game(and XIII-2, haven't played a lot of Lighting Returns because i'm stuck on two enemies healing each other) and XII.
I'm not a fan of most pseudo-ATB systems later FF games use, but the Paradigm system nails it. Even if you don't control the AI directly, you still direct them by selecting their roles and knowing what weaknesses/resistances the boss has. What's more, I love that this game allows every character to be viable by allowing all to potentially take on any role, while still making each one stand out by giving them different primary roles, different abilities in each role, and different stats/weapon abilities. You can really make a team of whoever you like, so long as you understand what each one brings to the table and build your deck around that. In my playthrough, even though I mained Fang/Hope/Light, I still found plenty of use for Vanille, Sazh and Snow.
I bought an old ass slim PS3 a couple months after buying my PS5 just to play the FF XIII , XIII-2 and Lighting returns and I’m super happy that I did that . This is the Best game in the FF franchise .
So Barthandelus was trying to call Bhunivelze all along in LR he does come only after Caius caused Cocoon to fall causing the chaos to flow which woke Bhunivelze up damn Barthandelus was thinking waaay ahead he knew about Valhalla as well and the Chaos.
The fal'cie including pulse fal'cie and sanctum fal'cie had only one goal - to awaken the bhunny. They want nothing more to rule the cocoon from human's hand and rule. They want to start anew. Not sure if they know about valhalla or chaos though
@Red Elite Fabula Nova Crystallis' whole point was kind of to subvert assumptions about what constituted a Final Fantasy game while playing the thematic or mechanical sources of those assumptions to their logical extreme. "So, cool, you were chosen by a crystal to carry out its will and save the world. Did you... Did you really think you had any say in the matter? Run the hallway, Warriors of Light, I mean l'Cie, I mean Lucii."
The Lightning trilogy follows the Star Wars trilogy formula. First one is a self contained story, second ends with shit getting f’ed up and our heroes escaping to fight another day, and the third one is spent fixing all the crud unresolved with the second one.
I remember the first time i played throught his game totally blind, my god was i underleveled and took be like 20 hours in one sitting beating on this boss before i finally got it, my friend was over and was watching me play and when he went to sleep and wake up i was still trying to beat this boss lol.
The music of this boss fight was one of the best amongst all of the FF franchise, but he was too hard to beat for the first time without knowing poison affects him good.
I was actually impressed by the final boss. Minerva is the Goddess of Poetry, Music, Craft, etc. Galenth, Minerva, and Orphan are ALL in this one form. If you notice, this form looks as if Galenth is the father, Minerva is the mother and Orphan is the child.
Impressive battle the first time it comes. This Final Boss is tricky and the battle itself needs knowledge. Everything like the bizzarre desgin, the epic music, the wihte and black lights healing and attacking, impressive boss magics, the magnificient dinamic main characters moving and attacking all the time and the meaning of what Orphan is makes this battle one of my favorites.
"A haven, yea, yet it must fall ere we be saved. Too frail a shell, and humans should not thrive. Too stout a shell, and they will not die. Ah.... the final boss that one shots you before the battle really starts telling you your a fucking idiot for not grinding.......ahhh......... *SCREAMS*
This is the hardest boss I have faced in the Final Fantasy franchise. NEVER AGAIN will I attempt to challenge this boss. I lost over a dozen times just to finally beat him, with low/average leveled heroes. I have to say, though, FF13 is one of my favorite video games, because, ultimately, it provided me with a real challenge. (Last game I played was FFX, and Braska's Final Aeon was wayyy too easy.) The best strategy of mine was to use Snow (as Leader) for attacker/defense/magic attacker, Hope for heal/buff/magic attacker and Vanille for heal/debuff/magic attacker. Focus on healing and buffing your team first, then healing and debuffing Orphan, then using the whole team as magic attackers, to achieve "Stagger." At this point, use Snow as Commando Attacker and Hope and Vanille as Magic Attackers. Before the Stagger reaches 0, switch your strategy to two Healers and one Sentinel, so the boss doesn't KO you when he crushes you with his gigantic sword. (The goal is to poison and debilitate Orphan, strengthen and heal your team, and going all out with magic attacks.) Repeat this strategy till the boss is killed. From time to time, you will NEED to use items, such as phoenix down, potion, mallet, etc. The battle can take about 20-30 minutes, for low/average leveled heroes. If you take too long, say... 35-40 minutes for ex., he will cast Doom/Death on your leader - GAME OVER! You will need a little luck on your side to actually win, due to Orphan's several KO/DEATH attacks and Debuffer attacks. Timing in this battle is everything. If you have any money, buy, upgrade use Death Ward armors for Snow (The Leader) and Fog Ward armors for Hope and Vanille. Make sure to have about a dozen: Mallets, Foul Liquids, Painkillers, Antidotes and Phoenix Downs. Lastly, may the gods be with you, when facing Orphan.
I love when people say how easy a boss fight was to them, it brings a tear to my eye. If youre stuck on this fight or about to get to this point, you will need 3 Cherubs Crowns upgraded to max level Seraphs Crowns, giving you a 94% death resist. Orphan uses an insta-death attack repeatedly after the first stagger-this is what will kill you. Combat Clinic to heal. Relentless to stagger. Army of One to 999%. Aggression until dead.
Limited Resources/Lower stats/Limited party choice due to lightning always being leader/One target compared to 5 Also final bosses in final fantasy can be made easy by level grinding to high heaven.

About the only thing I didn't like about this game was the combat. Some enemies and bosses were so tough for me that Dark Souls would be easier. I remeber fighting those two Eidolen with Snow, died so many times that I could make a video just about me dying.
Arusiek90 Interesting, because I finally got around to playing this game last month and managed to beat Orphan about 2 weeks ago. It was hard at first, but its all about team management and a bit of luck. I know that the little things like Haste can make a huge impact overall and you do what it takes to get to the Stagger. Also, ironically if you went through the cradle and all the monsters it had, Orphan shouldn't be that huge a challenge...... unless you avoided most of the encounters through there. Me, on the other hand, I leave nothing alive when my party ventures on. (currently, I'm strong enough to take down the tortoises with broken tusks, but not a Neochu......)
That's the good thing about final fantasy. It wouldn't be the same if it didn't have extremely hard bosses XD. Shiva sisters I remember were not that hard to me.
goodgalbadgal the shiva sister is 2% hard if you don't understand the battle system yet I just got them to attack mw while I am in sentinel mode and it keep going up and up so it 100% easy

Luckily the boss kept my eyes busy on the health bars. Thats way creepier than anything I saw in horror films.
2:11 I could have sworn I read "Michael Jackson" (bless his heart)
A haven, yea. Yet it must fall ere we be saved. Too frail a shell, and humans should not thrive. Too stout a shell and they would not die. Slaughter and salvation! Two irreconcilable Focuses we bore. Yet bound were we in a cocoon prison, impervious to our power. And so we thank you for granting us our longed-for birth. That is stuff that makes Orphan one scary mother!
"Release! Must release!"
I laughed.
@cardenw and yet they are called Orphan ^^
They fused each other, bird (white)+Barnaculus (purpile)+Orphan (child)

Whatever your thoughts are about this game, Orphan The Abandoned One is a pretty badass name for a final boss.
Born but now to die
am I the only one that thinks this boss was easy as all hell
From what I heard all you have to do is poison him and then just sit the fight out.
i didnt even poison him just debuffed him alot
He is kinda easy but he can be really hard if you use a bad paradigm setup, smart bomb/combat clinic/relentless assault are the best for this battle.
AceOfSpades966 I didn't really even debuff him, just buffed myself xD
I poisoned him a few times And put all the characters as healers in between to resist his blows.
it's cool that the track finished when you defeated the boss
How is Vanille as a white mage? I used Hope as my main healer and never used her.
she is the best healer in my opinion
she has more health and learns her moves quicker
she is also a really good ravager she does tons of damage but it kind of makes her a target
TheErodred However, she's good in the Saboteur Role.
yes she is a good saboteur
she is a great mage actually
just dont use her as a main unless you give her a ridiculous amount of health boosters
I mostly use her for battling against the Adamantoise and the Adamantortoise
i actually have not played it post game yet
so I have not used her to her full potential as a buffer and death is not worth the risk for me since is has like a 2% success rate
