Saw them at the Leeds Irish Centre in 1979 and they kept falling apart and screwing up. But in-between the chaotic moments was the most brilliant Irish playing there has ever been.
remembering back then when I knew nothing about Irish music. Bought the album where this is the first "song".. hooked on the bad and began to explore Irish Music,
This to me is THEE best Irish music band. Just the best! I love irish music, but Bothy Band take it up not a step, but up a full flight! They are Superb with a capital S. I've seen The Chieftains a few times and they're really great, but these folks blow them right out of the concert halls! So sorry I never got to see them. They were done before I came to love Irish music. Damn it!
@goldenhelix bothy? it said with th. a bothy was a little cottage in the highlands (or where ever! ;) ) were usually the farm workers stayed. they would often jam and play music into the night as it was their only entertainment! :)
Anyone know what the last tune was called, I couldn't make out what he said, very nice tune, I'd like to find more versions of it, If anyone knows what it's called that would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance! Aaron :)
amazing band. been listening to a couple cd's of theirs for a while now. one somewhat stupid question: do you say the name of the band with the "th" as in the word "thin" or do you say it like you would an irish-gaelic spelled word (like "h" in "hat)? would love to know.
Well, in scots "bothy" is pronounced "BAW-thee" (th is unvoiced, as in thin, thick, not as this, that). A bothy is the building in which the farmworkers lived while under contract for the working. Hope that helps!
The best Irish trad group could listen to them forever, especially the uileann pipes.
The Bothy Band were the best band ever, some acts come along once in a decade, others once in a lifetime. The Bothy Band came along once.
What planet are you from? I've enjoyed them since the 70s

Saw them live in Aberystwyth in 1976 or 77 - people were dancing in the aisles. Fantastic memories and great to have these videos now

As in "thin" - as long as the person saying it is not Irish. :o) The Botty Band would be a different thing altogether.
Well, in scots "bothy" is pronounced "BAW-thee" (th is unvoiced, as in thin, thick, not as this, that). A bothy is the building in which the farmworkers lived while under contract for the working.
