I just watched it and You have beautifully depicted it. Nothing much was conversed yet everything was. Slow, simple but so damn powerful. Makes you feel their emotions
One of the finest movie experience that I had watching this craft... with such nuance and such credible performances hands down one of my favourite movie in the list of few others❤️❤️
I can't even explain that how good the film actually is.❣️ After watching 96 this is surely my favorite love story movie and not just love this film has much more to say in a very usual and simple way.💕 Tillotoma Shome is outstanding. Her acting, her dialouge delivery, those innocent eyes are everything and what should I say about Vivek Gomber he is a sweetheart and whenever Ashwin says "Ratna" it melts my heart...❣️ Must watch this film deserves more appreciation.. Some love stories are incomplete and that's why they're very special ❤️

Exactly.. I being a south Indian hate it wen people hate bollywood just bcz bollywood bashing is trendy now. . There r many south films still wid the same cliche storyline n 'mass masala entertainers' which are sheer bullshit.. But the gud ones only get recognised n people speak like south indian movies are far mote superior to bollywood. I agree for an extent, some south industries have much technically sound movies than most hindi movies. But the same people donn support or promote gud hindi movied at the same time. @Puneet Kumar I never liked or agreed with any of Kangana's old PR stunts or scandals be it with Hritik or Apurva Asrani (writer of Simran) or Krish (director of Manikarnika).... But when she took a stand for SSR, first time I respected her guts.... Doesn't matter if she was doing it for her own personal agenda, but a few arrogant people in Bollywood had few sleepless nights because of her.... The problem is that these films or filmmakers were never part of mainstream Bollywood.... I don't consider indie (independent) filmmakers part of so-called mainstream Bollywood.... If they were, movies like these won't struggle so much to get noticed or released.... The mainstream Bollywood is totally filled with fake people who are bloated with ego, and many who are known for their Page 3 news and controversial lifestyles rather than their movies or acting.... And, yes mainstream Bollywood which thrives on remakes, senseless movies in the name of comedy and entertainment, and biopics and not even trying to capture complete pan-Indian market like Southern industries (Baahubali, KGF) is definitely under-performing, and has long way to go.... Eventhough they pride themselves to be top in the country.... So yes, the criticism is justified and right and please don't show such individual and independent gems as examples to support or make a case in favour of Bollywood!
Oh god... I happened to watch the trailer last week and watched this movie 3 days back. And now, all I see is posts about this movie 🙈. I've never seen a complex plot presented with such finesse. Fell in love with Vivek Gomber's character and uff what a performance by both the actors. I kept smiling as their love story progressed and couldn't control the curiosity inside when Vivek calls in the end. You cannot help but get consumed in the story and hope it ends happily. I'm awestruck!
Watched it couple days ago on Netflix. The haves and have nots of society and the invisible barriers separating them are so beautifully yet simply depicted. The realistic slice of life filming reminded me of another gem - Lunchbox. Tillotama completely owned this movie with her outstanding portrayal of an outsider in big bad Mumbai, very aware of her lower standing in society yet confident of breaking the shackles if she can get one chance to prove herself and follow her passion. What a movie, must watch! Thanks for your insightful review as well.
Sir isn’t a film but an electric feeling.....ethereally humane film....what pair and performances....I love how they both select projects...Vivek with The Disciple too.....interestingly my maid’s name is also Ratna and she has an exact physique like hers and is extremely nimble like her...😊after the ending I was having a wonderful unsaid feeling for the next day too...

You have beautifully conveyed the soul of the film through ur words Anumol and that's why i will always b a subscriber to TRP...I recommend everyone to watch this film, don't miss this one.
Sir was a great movie and enjoyed it more as movie compared to White Tiger. White Tiger however was a Adarsh Gaurav show and his bold statement as a challenging actor, but the movie itself did not evoke enough oomph or emotion even as slumdog millionaire. I am surprised you have missed out on reviewing one of the best releases of 2021. The Great Indian Kitchen. Its a master piece, would love to see you watch and react to it.
I Was Waiting For 'Sir' Since Almost A Year! And Then Due To Covid It Wasn't Screened In My City So I Had Almost Lost The Hopes But Then I Saw That It Will Be Streamed On Netflix And I Saw It As Soon As It Was There! It Was Worth It!
Ashwin's friend Vicky was also a nice person, when he finds out about the increasing closeness between Ashwin and his friend. Rather than being overly judgemental he understands Ashwins need to be cared and love. He holds an intervention for Ashwin and makes him confront harsh societal realities.
That scene really caught my attention. The friend was being realistic. I loved what he said, “if you really care for her leave her be” because she will never fit into his society.
When it ended, I couldn't believe it as I wanted to see more and what happened afterwards. Will Ashwin take Ratna to New York or will she live in India and aspire her dreams? As the writer has left upon us to assume, it can be anything. This movie saw relationships from a different perspective and breaks all the typical norms.
Frankly speaking watched this film wanted to watch this film for so many times.... And happy to see this movie... Sir and ratna is part of my heart now :)
I watched this movie 5 times!!!! It was soooooo amazing!!!! Both the lead actors are unbelievably talented! This movie makes you feel happy, sad, in love and what not!

good review jammy. looks like a simple story very well told by the director. so she work in monsoon wedding thats why she looks known known maybe i saw some of her other work as well
Here are the few artistic things I observed, (Spoiler alert) 1. In one scene Ashwin asks his dad to let him handle the whole site. He says "I've got the design, I've got the budget. You wanted me to handle this site, let me handle it" Cut to the next scene where Ratna is asking tailor to let her use the machine. This flawlessly shows the difference between a privileged and unprivileged person living under a same roof. 2. When Ratna was living with her sister, her sister asks her what happened and why she left. In that scene her sister was setting up a curtain for kitchen. The camera was always out side of kitchen (outer world) which believed that Ratna stole something (The rumor which Jeetu spread) while the truth was something different which Ratna knew from inside. In the end of that scene Ratna says "Nothing" And takes the curtain from her sister's hand and covers the door. Metaphorically hiding the truth inside and letting outside world think whatever they want to. In a way she hided truth under that curtain. 3. When Ratna had left Ashwin's house in onc scene Ratna's empty room was shown where there was a little but neat bathroom for her. Cut to the next scene where Ratna was standing in a queue for a common bathroom in the chowl. This subtly shows the drastic change in her life. 4. Ratna's bag's chain always gave her trouble while packing things up when Ashwin's chain was so smooth. Such little detailing are remarkable.
Mohil Shah , you are no less than a genius, Sir ! What a sharp observation you have ! My God ! Are you a film maker too ? Only a film maker will be able to understand the language of context here . Movie has his own language too! Anyway , wishing you a blessed future . There is so much to learn from miss Shom and Vivek ! They made me speechless ! From Houston/ Texas
Here's one more Ashwin's friend said, Ratna don't even know how to use knife and fork, But nor did Ankita (40:32 timestamp in movie) knew how to hold a wine glass.
So happy that you spoke about this movie. The crux of the story is something which a lot of serials and movies have tried to potray, but SIR stands out because Ratna was not shown as a silent or weak person. Her dream and aspiration to be an independent successful person was so refreshing to see. And their chemistry was shown in the most grounded and simplest way possible . More than just simply showing the conventional portrayal of “love” , they share a sort of trust and connection with each other, and that was shown so beautifully. SIR must receive all the appreciation and love it deserves.♥️
When i saw the film i was rooting for them real bad but at the same time i was constantly thinking about the conversation Ashwin had with his friend when his friend said that "Even your mother won't sit at the same table as her". It was so heart wrenching.
His friend assumed that but I would love a sequel where Ashwin returns and not to see Ratna as a successful rich fashion designer but the sweet woman that he fell in love with doing a job that she always wanted and enjoying it. I hope that his parents accept Ratna or else I could see him marrying her and taking her to NY. They would end up losing a second son so it may cause them to think. Ratna deserves a massive fairytale wedding that would shut down Mumbai and have all the naysayers gloating including Vicky. I just feel that a movie like this is long overdue and can open up the discussions around prejudices that exist in society (not necessarily Indian society) between different people.
Thiss movie goes to show that you donot need elaborate love songs with fancy sarees in Switzerland to show beautiful chemistry between two characters,.. loved it... Worthy of many rewatches...
Watch more Bengali, Marathi, Assamese films. You'll get to see this type of slice of life storytelling and depiction of raw human emotions and relations.
@@sparky8640 I can suggest you hundreds of amazing Bengali films but before that I need to know your taste and are you a cinephile i.e a movie buff who likes to explore cinema from all around the globe? Through cinema you can explore the culture, mindset, lifestyle of a particular state, country so do you want to explore Bengali culture, lifestyle, ideology? Let me know if you have any problem with watching black and white cinema. Some people don't wanna watch black and white cinema because they watch cinema for entertainment, they don't treat cinema as art. And Bengali cinema was at it's pick during the black and white era when legendary Bengali filmmakers used to rule Indian cinema. So if you say yes to black and white cinema then I will suggest some of those films also. If you have any favourite genre you can mention that also. I'll suggest you films keeping that in mind also. Do you like to watch Drama films because this genre is the forte of Bengali cinema. Bengali film industry have conquered the Drama genre and have plenty of national and international award winning Bengali Drama films but not many Thrillers and Action films. So if you are a fan of those genres then Bengali cinema don't have much to offer. There are many good semi-commercial Bengali films which are a nice blend of commercial and arthouse films. I can tell you this much that for film students or aspiring filmmakers or critics, reviewers watching and studying Bengali films from different eras are absolutely mandatory. So if you are genuinely interested then answer these questions and I'll recommend you 50-60 Bengali films. You can note them down and watch them at your own pace.
@@Timepass-cx1do 🙃 Yeah I know.. it is written as TILLOTAMA. That is why I mentioned it here.. Indian names are not just names but bears meanings with it.. 'Tillotama' does not stand for anything but TILOTTAMA= TIL + UTTAM-a (a is used fir feminine sound) which means " A women who gains her feminism very specifically.. like small seeds of SESAME ( in bengali or hindi which means TIL ) " It is pronounced as TILOTTAMA but written as TILLOTAMA.. I just enhanced it because mamy people pronounce it as TILLOTAMA which is not actually correct.. So I found your comment & I thpught that it woulb be nice if I tell you this that Tillotama is pronounced as Tilottama.. 👌
I saw this movie a month before ... could not understand how to feel .. love that feeling .. we all are people .. some have money same don't .. why does money it defines whom to love ... and the chemistry between them .. loved it ... line" sir likh toh kahi be sakte hai .. made me think deep that am i really struggling or just pretending that i have big problems... trust me guys one of the best movie to watch
Exactly my predicament and feelings too. Didn't understand the unease or pin what I was feeling. I am all for Ratna and Ashwin, I wanted them to be well but I felt how would their future pan out. Loved the way this flim makes you think.
Hi Jammy.. TILLOTAMA SHOME is pronounced as TILOTTAMA "SHOM" . NOT "SHOM-e" Its an Bengali accent. No need to be typical about that but it is just an information.
@@TriedRefusedProductions Ohhhhhoooohhoooo I commented so many comments on this channel about your style of explaining, your good works but I never got this response ! Now that I have a correction form you just replied me ! 😅 Head over heels ! I never did think this to happen !
@@TriedRefusedProductions Also, now that you have replied - I have a request for you..a humble one.. no need to hurry..take your time..1st complete your other projects then if you have time, then please make a video about unrecognised Indian actors who performed great in International films.. for example - A PASSAGE TO INDIA, a film by David Lean ( academy award winner ) where an Indian actor Victor Banerjee did an amazing role.. like that.. we have so many other films. Research is indeed needed.. but hope to see more of these..🙂
I've watched this movie an unhealthy number of times and every single time I watch it, I feel like it offers something new as a movie. It's difficult to explain what this film makes me feel; you just start questioning yourself and the social structure. It's a special film like Jammy said, a must-watch.
Same I watched it so many times and still watch with a smile on my face and every time I always fall in love with Ratna and Ashwin even more than the last time.
Ok, you guys make me feel normal. Saw it multiple times too with smile on my face n song at heart! Can’t imagine Tillotama to be anything else than Ratna! Vivek is so charming !! Kind of Prince Charming!! ❤️
yeah I watched it in this lockdown. it was uploaded on NEttv in the early June(maybe) in Nepal but it was kept on hold in India. Masterpiece for me and must watch. I am so happy and proud of myself that i watched it before Jammy.
Even when we wanted them to get together, we didn't want her to get hurt. And the removing Bangles while going back showed a clear depiction of the difference.
Yay!!! Finally. I am overjoyed to see that you enjoyed this. I completely and wholeheartedly agree with you on each and every single point you made about the film. One of the finest films that the Indian film industry has brought out. I absolutely loved this movie, Tillotama Shome as Ratna... Wow truly a masterclass in showing restraint, humility and dignity.
And the handsome , reserved actor Vivek ! His personality ! Omg ! Let me scream “ Karan Johar , teach how to act with dignity to Superstar SK .” Those days are gone ! Dilwale days ! Rohit Shetty ! Katrina learn the acting of simplicity from Shome ! And the actor with attitudes Salman Khan ! Spend a lazy evening with Vivek ! May be you can have some tips on acting ! Not body building ! Any option ? Yes . Watch SIR !! From Houston / Texas .
Vivek Gomber is a darling. What an impressive calm personality he has❤️ Totally crushing on him and his voice 😍 Watching all his movies like COURT, BOMBAY BEGUMS, A SUITABLE BOY and whatever he'll do in the future. He has got a bright future ahead for sure !😊☮️
From "Sir" to "Ashwin", love, hope and acceptance are so well intertwined in the story, that you yearn for such a world where love breaks all barriers. So happy to see your review that would make more people watch this movie.
The best way to get these films is. By watching them and not wasting 2 hours to watch stupid movies for the simple reasons to hate them , if 1/2 the people who took their time to dislike stupid movies took their time to go and see at-least trailer and like them or seen them in theatres .
Kudos to the whole team for bringing something like this so rare. Social differences have been show in many movies and many have attempted. But what Rohena Gera has done is truly magical. Vivek Gomber needs to be seen more. Both lead actors were exceptional and I cannot imagine anyone else doing a better Ashwin and Ratna.
This movie left me questioning my idea of love. It brought it a new perspective which was unknown to me. I love this movie with my whole heart. Both actors did justice to their role! The ending in particular is my favourite… “hello, Ashwin”…. Only some people will realise what a pivotal moment this is for the progression of the relationship between Ashwin and Ratna. It leaves you wondering where their relationship will go but also manages to give you some closure 💝
Just finished watching this masterpiece. I honestly don't know what exactly do I feel right now. Such a hard hitting story and a bittersweet ending. I'm glad that films like sir are talked about more in these days. Thank you Jammy for introducing me to gems like Sir ♥️
@@mockyou5899 Hell no............The White Sun, Kalo Pothi, Suntali, Sanghuro, Bulbul, Hari, Lato Kosero are worth watching....rest are just commercial run of the mill pot boilers
This movie is just so under-rated, like we need to start watching such films, i was left speechless after watching it, be it the story or the performance, just an outstanding movie. It's when we don't support and appreciate films like this, the people working on such projects loose hope, thanks jammy for letting people know that this movie is too good to miss
I watched this over the weekend and felt so restless the entire time watching it. I empathized with him sure, but I was WORRIED for her. Still, the last few seconds provided such a huge payoff. So worth it.
I opened my netflix app and saw thumbnail pinned on top and was super excited to watch it, because I've heard about and never saw it released on the apps that i have. I just got done watching it and it was a really good film.
The movie has very problematic power dynamics. I can't see past that. She is his employee, his live-in maid, has nowhere else to reside in the city and is materially completely dependent on him. I don't think we should be romanticizing that! Sure, love conquers all. Have as many rich man - poor girl love stories or vice versa but an employer and a completely dependent employee? That's messed up.
I love this movie so much. It was just so heart felt. I liked the long silence between their conversations whether it showcased longing or awkwardness. Their chemistry was so good. Ratna was such a lovable character. Her smile truly showed her endearing personality. What I liked the most about the movie is that Ashwin did try to make her a damsel in distress but she stood up for her dignity. Her character was so beautifully written. I really wish more people watch this movie.
SIR was a beautiful movie. Just saw it last night on Netflix. It is a gem hidden and i had not heard of any of the movie credits till i actually googled the actors and director.. Amazing display of emotions and thankfully enacted extremely well. Hats off to Rohena Gera who has made such a beautiful film.
This movie I watched on my own no one recommended me to watch. And I am happy that movie turn out to be one of the best movie. The movie felt like real. Kudos to the actors and directors.
Saw this one when the trailer first came out 2 or 3 years ago. Have been telling people to watch it ever since. Really hope it finally gets the fame it deserves. Watch the hell out of it on netflix people!
I don't know I cried while Ratna was leaving the apartment In my mind i kept saying Plese don't go don't leave him c'mon i wouldn't jugde you at all If only the world had this thought
One of the most tender, organic and realistic love stories I have seen in Indian movies. I was fed up with cheesy romantic dialogues, stalking and love at 1st sight bulshit in conventional commerical cinema. This is a fresh breath of air!
Ashwin's voice was so calm and composed and for me it was the highlight
Yeah same. Didnt pin point it, but definitely. His humble "Ratna" runs in your mind when you think of the movie.
he has played a lawyer in "court" with same calm and composure....class apart

Last night i watched it and i couldn't sleep until 4.00

Same pinch...i was not planning to watch it yesterday night, but ended up watching it.... Thank God i did. Such a gem.

So intuitive you're!
You're a genius and absolutely correct. The movie is full of contrasting juxtapositions.
Wow man so subtly you watched this movie..👍
Here's one more
Ashwin's friend said, Ratna don't even know how to use knife and fork,
But nor did Ankita (40:32 timestamp in movie) knew how to hold a wine glass.
Wow... had no idea a movie named Sir exists and was nominated for oscars while watched too many cr@ps without any sir pair😌
It was not nominated for Oscar.
Sir pair😀😀😀😀😀🔥
Its name is "is love enough sir?"
Oho *considered, not nominated😅
Sorry, could anyone explain "sir pair"? Didn't get it..
Dude I just watched it yesterday. That "Ashwin..." at the end was beautiful.
A beautiful change from Sir to Ashwin
Yea
Ikr...so sweet.
Yes Yes Yes!!!!!❤️❤️❤️
YESSS brought a smile to my face, such a beautiful end
Couldn't help but fall in love with Ashwin what a beautifully written character ❤️😭
@@carb10 nah bruh! you didn't get their personalities

Vivek Gomber is a class actor❤️ Fell in love with his character, A genuine kind hearted man..
Thiss movie goes to show that you donot need elaborate love songs with fancy sarees in Switzerland to show beautiful chemistry between two characters,.. loved it... Worthy of many rewatches...
I literally search for films like these heaven knows why india doesn't make more films of such genre it's better in every aspect.
Watch more Bengali, Marathi, Assamese films. You'll get to see this type of slice of life storytelling and depiction of raw human emotions and relations.
@VI KI can you please suggest some bengali movies? :) I'm not familiar with it 😅
@@sparky8640 hands down Apu Trilogy (genre: neo realism)

@@TriedRefusedProductions Yes , undoubtedly
@@Timepass-cx1do 🙃
Yeah I know.. it is written as TILLOTAMA. That is why I mentioned it here..
Indian names are not just names but bears meanings with it..
'Tillotama' does not stand for anything but TILOTTAMA= TIL + UTTAM-a (a is used fir feminine sound) which means " A women who gains her feminism very specifically.. like small seeds of SESAME ( in bengali or hindi which means TIL ) "
It is pronounced as TILOTTAMA but written as TILLOTAMA..
I just enhanced it because mamy people pronounce it as TILLOTAMA which is not actually correct..
So I found your comment & I thpught that it woulb be nice if I tell you this that Tillotama is pronounced as Tilottama.. 👌
Tilotoma Shome is criminally underrated..
How so?
I saw this movie a month before ... could not understand how to feel .. love that feeling .. we all are people .. some have money same don't .. why does money it defines whom to love ... and the chemistry between them .. loved it ... line" sir likh toh kahi be sakte hai .. made me think deep that am i really struggling or just pretending that i have big problems... trust me guys one of the best movie to watch

Hi Jammy.. TILLOTAMA SHOME is pronounced as TILOTTAMA "SHOM" .
NOT "SHOM-e"
Its an Bengali accent. No need to be typical about that but it is just an information.

Also, now that you have replied - I have a request for you..a humble one.. no need to hurry..take your time..1st complete your other projects then if you have time, then please make a video about unrecognised Indian actors who performed great in International films.. for example - A PASSAGE TO INDIA, a film by David Lean ( academy award winner ) where an Indian actor Victor Banerjee did an amazing role.. like that.. we have so many other films.

Ok I will watch this and I'll say what I felt

One of the finest films that the Indian film industry has brought out. I absolutely loved this movie, Tillotama Shome as Ratna... Wow truly a masterclass in showing restraint, humility and dignity.
Well said.

The love is intense in this movie. A feel good one
Finally, was waiting for Jammy's insight of this wonderful gem from the day I watched it ❤️
I love this movie so much.
You see Rahul Desai liked this movie. That is rare to happen.

The director has handled the film well. Sensitive and real you know.

One of the most tender, organic and realistic love stories I have seen in Indian movies. I was fed up with cheesy romantic dialogues, stalking and love at 1st sight bulshit in conventional commerical cinema. This is a fresh breath of air!
