    Before the Myrtle Beach location shut down, it was a must-visit every time my family went (I still have my wand). In my late 20's I would get obnoxiously into it, complete with wand flourishes, olde English speak, and a boisterous medieval stride throughout the MagiQuest for the sole purpose of embarrassing my moody teenage brother.
    Also, 'Midnight Sizemore' is now an official NPC in my DnD campaign.

    So story about when I worked at GWL-
    I worked at the front desk for 3 years. Got ‘pack member of the month’ a few times. But the MagiQuest event was always around. So we had two otters above the desk that gave tips and also said ‘pretty nifty wand work there’ in a southern accent. Well when they upgraded MQ about 2 years into my job there, the otters lost speaking code somewhere. However I could mimic them. So for two whole shifts I got paid to sit in a room beside them with a microphone and read the script. Good times.

    I remember going to a MagiQuest location in December 2009 when my parents and I visited Pigeon Forge, Tennessee for winter vacation. Fun fact about this particular Great Wolf Lodge location with living within the vicinity of it in MN: this wasn’t always a Great Wolf Lodge as before it it was actually known as Waterpark of America, name is such because of it being directly across from Mall of America there in Bloomington
    I haven’t been back ever since it was re-branded as a Great Wolf Lodge, but I have been to the one in Wisconsin Dells (which is the one that started at all before they eventually became a chain) and also did MagiQuest there when I was there back in early 2020 before the pandemic hit. Like the only remaining free-standing location in Pigeon Forge, TN, the Wisconsin Dells location also has the legacy version of the game. Still have my wand that I got when I was there, but have never been back to there or another location ever since. Hopefully I can make it to either Great Wolf Lodge in Bloomington, or even the only remaining free-standing location in Pigeon Forge, TN before they potentially close down someday (and from what I heard from another commenter here, it sounds like their future is very bleak).

    I found the Pigeon Forge location like 5 years ago and it was my first one. It was AMAZING. My spouse and I both loved it. We bought wands, kept our books and planned on going to one of the ones at Great Wolf Lodge after finding out about them. Unfortunately, we were ruined by playing at Pigeon Forge first because the Great Wolf locations are pathetic in comparison. They are just glorified hallways, whereas the Pigeon Forge one is like a full experience with hidden passages and cool props and settings.

    My local great wolf lodge has an outdated and older version of the game and they don't even bother to push updates out to the location or fix the obviously broken magi quest animatronics (some chests don't even open when you cast at them) and I really wish they would fix it and update it. All of the things in the video look so new to me. The bosses look very low quality from back then and its kinda lazy that my location doesn't bother to update these things because kids just enjoy it anyways

    • @RandomUser8P
      @RandomUser8P 2 роки тому +2

      There was a timed mission in the compass quests that I had to repeat three times before I beat it. You had to gather the different colored crystals around the hotel in a certain order, but the time limit was so short it made it so you had to remember where all the crystals were and what best route to take to get them in time

    • @phanpyken986
      @phanpyken986 2 роки тому +2

      @@RandomUser8P yeah the issue we had was we did all the tasks but ran out of time because of how long the lines were and of course there was only one thing for the compass quest.

    i remember playing it at a great wolf when I was a kid. It was honestly really fun to get to run around this whole building to find all the different quest objectives.
    I went to a different one years later, they had the whole thing gated off to one big room. it probably made more sense for them to do that, but it made the whole thing way less fun

    i remember playing magiquest one time on a trip to great wolf lodge, back when I was probably 10-12 or so. i couldn't tell you what location we were at, but my scout troop was there for a few days as our big trip we took yearly after our cookie sales and we all begged our parents for wands. the set up there though was WAY more barebones than what's even seen here. there was like a "hub" area that was some trees with screens in them, and you talked to some pre-recorded wizard man to get all your quests. then all the objects were kind of just scattered around the lodge haphazardly. but at the time it felt like it was THE coolest thing ever and we all got really into it while we were there. we spent hours running around in our pajamas trying to finish questlines. i think part of the magic of it was not only the idea we were ALLOWED to run around a hotel on purpose, but that we were able to kind of make up our own fun along the way.
    i have no idea where I finished at. i know I had the most basic wand (because they were so expensive jesus christ), and my brother had one too. i think we kept ours for a few years but they got lost after we moved a few times, or we got rid of them when we figured we'd never go back. i genuinely would have a blast just going on vacation by myself to a lodge for a few days to play magiquest by myself, even in that barebones version i played.
    also, in fairness, i registered my wand under "pikachu", so midnight is at least thematically correct.
    EDIT: totally forgot about this, but there was one quest I remember specifically that drove us crazy for a few hours trying to finish it, because it was timed, and you had to hit specific items around the hotel before the timer ran out, and since there were a bunch of floors to our particular locations, we quite literally just had to bolt for the elevators and hope we could make it in enough time. i THINK we did beat it, but it's possible that's where our time ended.

    I only ever played this at one of the GWLs in Texas, but I will always remember those days where my parents would just let me loose and do MagiQuest stuff all day. I would grind the same three quests over and over, the whole time chewing ice from the hotel ice machines. I specifically remember how hilarious it was that there were quest required items in the completely unthemed, industrial stairways that you would find in like a parking garage.

    I've been to the standalone Pidgeon Forge and Williamsburg GWL locations many times. The PF location is awesome; there are doors that open with the wand and even a key that you could buy to unlock the door to the Goblin King (not sold anymore sadly). Unfortunately, that location only has MagiQuest Legacy (original 2005 version + ice dragon expansion). After GWL bought Creative Kingdoms, the GWLs got updated versions of MagiQuest with additional content, but the standalone was left behind. Regardless, the PF location is a more immersive, nostalgic experience that's worth traveling for, Chad!

I even had a friend who had his birthday party there. They used to have a whole set of second level quests, and I got to the final two quests before mine closed. I even learned some sign language, Braille, and Morse code from the higher level quests- the communication one specifically.

    Played it only once at a FunPlex in my home state. It was confined to a little part of the indoor complex, so you werent interrupting other guests while they were walking, but sometimes you did bump into other kids playing. I played it back in like 2011? So it was out for a while, and had different quests to do. At this location you were able to get rented wands but were not able to take them home lol. I did not finish my quest sadly, but I remember having fun being able to run around with a magic wand lol. Sadly, this MagiQuest got shut down in 2016, so I will never be able to finish my quest like Midnight TTOTT.

    As a MB local, Magi Quest was an INTEGRAL part of my childhood. The battling station they added where you could fight your friends with runes you earned from playing WAS SO COOL. We had yearly membership cards and would go ALLLLL THE TIME. I had completed almost all the master magi quests by the time shutdown/GWL takeover happened. I still have my wand and my progress is saved and they can see it at GWL locations! Unfortunately I feel that the GWL MQ experience is a shadow of what it once was. I’ve been to two GWL locations (Ohio and NC) and the theming at both of them was pretty weak and I was just running around a hotel, and the one in Ohio was barely operational. I hope to visit the pigeon forge location as it’s the last standalone one around!

One of my tasks was to make sure every chest was playing the correct sound, awarding the correct amount of gold, etc. I had a map of every chest, but one eluded me, I go to my coworker on the job and hes basically like... look up. So I go back confused and... whoever layed out the effects there was a genius, there was a chest mounted on the wall above an entranceway.

    Some really obscure magiquest lore is that there is an official PC game. Completing what was on the disc was supposed to unlock the silver dragon on the next visit, with subsequent episodes doing the same. There was only that first episode made, and the silver dragon was changed to be accessible through other means.
