Man I wish I had of spent 5 hrs a day at age 15 instead of banging out power chords. 20 years later I don't have the luxury of time but I have the passion and drive to do my best. UA-cam has really changed the way to learn (not just guitar). Mika is a true master.
Nothing like being a multi-talented musician... especially from my FAVORITE country outside of the USA... FINLAND! The home of CRASHDIET..... dammit I miss them so much!!!! Saw them 3 times in Vegas with Simon Cruz... and I think he's wandering around back in the deep dark corners of frozen Finland watching the Northern Lights ... and so much happier than he was touring with the band. Some musicians.. just love the isolation. Others... can't handle isolation for ONE SECOND. Crazy people, we are.
Hey Mika, i just remembered the old days when i was nearly the same age and started playing guitar. A friend of mine discovered the Mr. Fastfinger- site and we played around with it for weeks. It was awesome and told us the actual approach to modes. Thank you!
This is awesome and so inspiring! You are def one of the most unique guitarist and producer ever! You dont know how happy I am to find you and your music!
Thanks for posting. Finish is a very interesting language to hear as well. Great guitar playing & it's inspiring to hear such a virtuoso musician. Inspiring enough to make me pick up the guitar & play/practice again. Thanks Mika & thanks Ruokangas Guitars.
WE NEED DOUBLE THUMBS UP OPTION! My guitar teacher recommended me the island of shred homepage/game like 12 years ago or something. I never heard sounds like that coming out of a guitar in that order. It really inspired me. Today I am the lead guitarist of... nah just kidding I had a bad snowboard accident some years later and quit guitar ... UNTIL NOW! Some days ago for some reason I remembered the guitar shred show when listening to an Yngwie track. Since then I picked up practice again and to my surprise: my shattered hand is able to do chords and progressions again. Now I'm watching this and really like Mika's story! How he constantly expanded his horizon. There was a point where I thought every note on the guitar has been played and it all starts to sound alike, I think some of you might relate to that. But now I find, it's just a mental cage you put up... You gotta THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX. And who better to teach you that, than Mr. Fastfinger!!!! Cheers & God bless you and your loved ones in snowy snowy Finland. Maranatha, may you play guitar in the set-apart heavens, selah!
That last quote is utter brilliance. Know the instrument so you can immediately get into the flow of creation. Maybe that's another song or album title for you: "The Flow of Creation." Thanks for the inspiration. Off to watch more of your videos.
@@vejichan By thermal ageing I'm referring to this: ruokangas.com/specifications/thermally-aged-tonewood/ - so it has nothing to do with the finish of the instrument. The guitar on this video is lacquered with polyurethane. The neck is made of rock maple, and the fretboard is arctic birch from Finland. Also the neck and the fretboard have been thermally aged for stability.
i thought it was steve vai who created those crazy sounds from the guitar as mr. fastfinger in that old flash based site.. now i see i am very very wrong. but i am also happy that i discovered you and will explore your musical talent.
DiAbOliCaL41 Thank you, great to hear! it's a song idea that's under development, probably it will be on the next album release. Another take of the idea can be seen on my latest video on my channel "Guitar Creativity..."
Well, maybe I made it sound so easy for me! It's been a long fight. But when I was 15 that one summer had a huge effect. Having the discipline to do 5 hours of pure mechanical technique practicing was good. We made some recordings with our teenage heavy metal band right before the summer and the right after the summer. The change was incredible.
Mr. Fastfinger - Mika Tyyskä I met the instrument called guitar 15 years ago but nowhere near playing it. Just fooling myself as I can play some riffs etc. (I think it is natural after 15 years). The comment was made to my inner self, knowing what you had done was a huge step that I never have taken. Wish me luck from now on :)
Thanks! This 5 hour practicing routine I had when I was 14 or 15. I'm an entrepreneur. Keeping myself busy with guitar by doing recording sessions, gigs, composing for games, teaching the guitar etc... And I also do motion graphics.
It sounds like he killed his creativity by over practicing and became another Steve vai clone making wacky superficial music. Clearly all the cartoon character and experimentation is a by product of not having any original ideas .
Eric Chenier You display all the signs of being an armchair expert. Please post a link to some of your super original work so we all have the opportunity to give you some feedback .
Thank you all for the thumbs up and positive feedback. I'm very glad this little documentary was made.
I just discovered you and I'm already loving you man. Impressive work!!
You inspired me to practice again! thank you :D
What is the song you play in the video?
Vergil Li Which part do you mean? Give me the seconds please!
3:32. Playthrough with Mr. Fastfinger
5 hours a day.... without mercy. How many of us can actually do that? Props man!

Thank you. That's absolutely right - UA-cam has totally changed the way to learn a lot of different skills!

Mr. Fastfinger, it's very far for a beginner to even think about being like you , but you are a true inspiration! Love from India!

is that guitar mahogany wood?
The guitar body is made of thermally aged Finnish alder.

Great playing.
Do you have a day job? For us mortals there is never enough time to practise 5 hours per day. Thanks

Dat Korg Miku on that Pedalboard: D
What H&K is he using?
Pretty much a modern Eddie V. 🤘
Mahtaa olla Eddie Van Halenit kuunneltu aikoinaan melko tarkkaan?😉
The very beginning sounded like die to live by Steve vai
Are you left handed? :D
Ahmet Baydar I'd call myself mixed handed :)
