Been eating this my whole life. Perks of a Japanese grandma. She always had seaweed and rice ready. And the rest was always different. Miss her to pieces
I didn’t understand why it went viral when Japanese people been eating this and versions of it.
@@dekaibrahim6749 right
I watched so much Japanese cooking and other Japanese channels during Covid, and I've been eating rice bowls for longer than this TikTock video has been a thing. I've been making my own sushi for years before that. The salmon that comes in a pouch is a good cheat for the rice bowl. But it needs a soft boiled egg on top and I use some Furikake. I've been buying Kewpie for ages as well. If you mix it with just a touch of Sriracha in a plastic bag with the Kewpie and then cut off a tiny corner you can make a spicy mayo that you can drizzle decoratively on top of your rice bowl or sushi. I usually put a small amount of seasoned rice vinegar in my rice, so it's like scattered sushi. It's a good thing to eat but I'm not impressed. If you find you like it, buy a Japanese or Korean rice cooker. You can't make rice that good at home without it.
I don't watch TikTok, if they just recycle what has been done for ages it's one more reason not to have anything to do with it.
Deka Ibrahim because not everyone knows about it and by people trying it and it blowing up on social media others has had the opportunity to try it
@@dekaibrahim6749 because that’s literally what Tiktok is haha, things that have been around for ages going viral for some reason haha
If you just quick-dip the rice papers they won't be as water logged and soggy when you fry them. Literally just in and out of the water
Yeah I noticed that, she DUNKED them things lol
Yup. I was thinking the same thing. Maybe she should brush the dumplings with oil and then airfry them ?
Regarding the “go big or go home thing” Jenna marbles has a name for this. It’s called a “too much gene” and you Rachel have this:)
Jenna 😭😭😭
omg the cookie cake is rachel's jeans chair!
You and Christopher have such a great relationship. Would you do a video on how you keep your relationship so great after all you two have been through?
Yes!!!!
Probably by keeping their relationship private...
I have been eating a version of this salmon bowl pretty much my whole life, I am First Nations and we call it fish hash.
First Nations?
@@dtulip1 an aboriginal to Canada, first peoples.
Hahaha, yup. Vancouver Island Ndn here, we topped it with oolichan grease
Saame, northcoast native here and I still eat it all the time, so delicious.
My granny would use canned salmon and top with fish eggs. So yummy
when microwaving rice, covering in a wet paper towel also does the trick. Basically you just want to steam the rice as you cook it. Works for take out Chinese rice as well.
That’s what I have always done. Works great!
YES! always do this
I just shake a wet over it, then use a lid.
I add shredded carrots, chopped cucumber, and sesame seeds to mine and switch out the protein. Definitely a staple!
Yummm yes.
I love when you two cook together, it makes me smile.
Maybe try the dumplings in the air fryer.
Also, a trick I learned for ripe avocado is to remove the little nub on top, if it's comes off easily and is light to medium green it's ripe, if it's brown it's gone too far and if it's hard to remove not quite there yet.
Kim chi in ramen is awsome! And its amazing how viral things get.. that salmon dish is just like foods we used to make as kids in our japanese households😄
Like, I'm Irish and it seems super basic to me? Haha rice and salmon is hardly a revelation, and like even with the soy/sesame oil/kewpie/sriracha if you're into Japanese flavours at all it's pretty basic? Delicious for sure, but like, viral??
‘I dressed up for this’ she says wearing a sweater and sweatpants!! 🤣
This is so me too!! Love you Rach!!
Christopher is adorable when he's trying his recipe. I'm super excited to try this. I LOVE those "pizzas" He could also try frying it at a higher temperature to get the browning faster without cooking the middle so much.
With the rice paper all you need is a quick dip in water. They may feel hard but they soften up more while you prepare 😊
Still looks super good though regardless of the soggy papers 😍
I wonder if this was my issue I let it soak till it was see through hahaha then it was like chewie :) I will remember this for next time!
@@morbid2mobile896 Haha, oh gosh. Trust me.. When I first started using rice paper I would soak for a few. I would get annoyed because it would be hard to work with. Then I learned to quick dip and it's been great since 😊
I love the kids yelling in the background. Makes the video even better ❤️
A good tip I've found, if you make something you want to be crispy or have some sort of crust, warm your plate in the oven for a bit so you aren't putting your hot food on a cold plate and creating condensation
These all look so good! Definitely try the putting the rice paper rolls in the airfryer. The crunch is AMAZING!!!
I’m glad Rachel is here to test these TikTok recipes because I still don’t have TikTok and would therefor miss EVERYTHING
Your smile is damn infectious. Was having a bad week but you got me smiling 😊😊
She has a great smile
@@Mellovesdeep25 indeed!
Love this!
On the rice cake it may help to make it thiiiick lol then when u fry itll be crisppy outside n soft rice in middle n top it w ingredients:)
I am OBSESSED with that snack seaweed. So good.
I will definitely be trying the original
You guys haven't tried puertorrican avocados. They are the size of a butternut squash and sooo buttery and delicious!!!! The peal comes right off when you slice them.
I’ve always thought the larger avocados taste like water. I only eat the smaller ones. I’m puerto rican and never liked avocado until I was an adult and could purchase them myself… I bought the small ones and now I love them! Lol
They’re not as good as the small ones. 😬
@@CruzFamilyVlogs 😲😲😲 always thought the opposite
@@ashleyfranciscol 😲😲 I think it's the opposite for me, small ones are fibrous and watery, large ones growing up where buttery and smooth and sweet. 🤷♀️🤷♀️
This couldn’t have been more perfect timing. I planned on making this tonight and now i have more ideas 🥰
Chris' recipe was the most creative one! The other two were nothing new to me 🤪😂
Ooh, instead of rice paper wonton wraps would make it super crunchy!
Oh I thought the same
Just for some unsolicited advice... I would have done a quick dip in the water with the rice paper instead a soak, that would have caused the majority of your 'sogginess'.
Also, with Chris' rice puck, they would have been a better texture and gotten that golden brown colour he was trying to achieve if he first rolled them in the starch, then egg wash, then panko. Or maybe even starch then a tempura batter. But even still they look delicious!! I'll have to try all of these recipes soon 😍❤
Never clicked on as video so fast!! Been binging your vids all afternoon ❤️❤️
A true tribute to how much I enjoy watching your videos. I can't salmon!
Love your cooking videos ! ❤️❤️
"For that half-hour" 😂😂😂😂😂 So true!!! I can never find nor get a ripe avocado if my life depended on it. I think I have, then I get home and for some reason, they aren't. LOL
You know something is good when Rach gets the Batman voice while saying "That's really good!" Haha
Christopher’s shirts rising to the occasion again ✨
Great video Rachel! 🥰
Kewpie is honestly life. Like I keep a bottle at work at all times 😂👏🏽
I’ve been so curious about the salmon recipe thanks for sharing!
I LOVE kimchi! I've actually gotten to making my own I eat it so much! But I'll DEFINITLY be making this every way it looks SUPER YUMMY!
I'm just here to appreciate your eyeshadow 💙
Emily’s recipe is definitely my fave. So easy peasy.
To make avocados last, put them in the fridge the day before they would be perfect. I’ve had them last up to three weeks in the fridge. Works really well if need one on a specific day.
I can so relate to the avocado 🥑 situation!! They are never ready when you want them.
You have to buy them twice a week so some can ripen while the ripe ones are ready.
I'm dying to try this one!
Rach do the variations of stuffed rice paper...omg things like Ramen, left over steak etc 😭
omg i've been wanting to try the rice paper dumplings for AGES and watching this last night had me craving it after my exam today and you gotta make sure you fry all the sides!!! And then put them on a paper towel to dry and they stay crispy and delicious! I also only had smaller round rice paper at home and works perfectly!! Please retry them with a meat filling i promise
If you guys haven't tried kewpie Japanese mayonnaise, you should try it. Way better than hellman's
It's pronounced kyu-pi (pi like in pizza; not pronounced like pie)
Or Duke's.
I will definitely be trying these
I’ve NEVER liked fish of any kind! YES, I always try a fish bite as some day I might find a fishy I like 😁 I just use chicken for these ideas! 👍
Have you tried milk fish?
Ohhh that’s a good idea. I hate fish. I wonder if canned chicken would work. It’s not my favorite but it is “flakey” like a fish would be more than fresh chicken….
SAK556 great idea🤗✌️

uguguhuguuug
I’m try this today 💖
I would love to see a refined version of the salmon rice pizza in a future video.
Since rice is wet I think he needed to use less oil, not more.
What about arancini balls but with this recipe! That sounds yum! 😋
A+ on that t shirt plus some interesting new ideas to try. I appreciate the time and effort in your videos. Thanks
LOTR VS MPATHG= hilarious “you shall not pass” haha
I need to try this!!
I love that I'm literally having salmon for dinner tonight and I did not know it was gonna be the main ingredient in this video 👏😄
I’ve haven’t been watching your videos for like 6months (just been MIA on UA-cam) but I promise I’ll catch back up. Love you and all your content!!!
Man but Ontario peaches just hit different when they are in season. Like sooo good.
Never heard of this but now I have to have some!
While I don't like fish in general, these recipes looked amazing 😍🤤
You could definitely swap in a different protein.
the little "pizzas" at the end remind me of when i was younger and we'd make mini pita bread pizzas with pizza sauce and mozzarella! the best after school snack!
Being able to air fry salmon in 19 minutes might make that appliance appealing to me
"aw, i wanted to cheer you"
Chris through the next recipe: *cheers rachel without her telling him*
I want to try this a hand roll...nori cone stuffed with the original mixture!!! Thanks for the other options!!!
Love your sweater!! My son loves salmon! Next time I go visit him I need to make him that salmon bowl!!! 😋 💛💛
I've been wanting to make this so I'm glad you made it first! HA!
Iove your shirt Rachael
I like how popular this recipe is, I’m not a fish fan but it’s such a great way to utilize leftovers. I kind of want to try with leftover chicken.
its avocado season rn in nz and yessssss Rachel I understand your struggle
I'd love a slow cooker episode.🥰
I just spray left over rice with water then cover and reheat. Works a treat
I make the 2nd recipe in the air fryer, minus the rice, with lots of veges, essentially a spring roll! So good and crispy!
I'm super allergic to salmon, but still watching this whole video because Rachel is my favorite 😂
Native here, I get excited about salmon! I'll have to try the rice paper ones!
I made tuna and rice many years ago. I added butter. Delish
Rachel "I dressed up today"
..Still wearing track pants haha
You are playing in my Kitten playing video this morning 🤣🥰🐈⬛
"Pucks" 🏒
That gif was great. But hard/funny for me to see as a NYR fan lmao.
I‘m not a fan of fish, but Chris‘s recipe looks AWESOME! I might try that :)
Cute sweater!
I made this with tuna instead of salmon and added sesame seeds and green onion and seasoned the rice with sushi rice seasoning (salt, rice vinegar, and sugar) and it was really good!
This would be great in a bao bun! Flaked salmon with kewpie, kimchi, soy sauce and sriracha with some avocado, maybe with some crispy onions or something to add a bit of crunch. Would also be a very quick and easy lunch if you buy the buns frozen from a chinese supermarket, and no need to make the rice (which I find quite heavy for lunch, but that's just me). Haven't seen these before as I don't have social media but I always love watching you try these recipes/hacks. Hope you like the idea!
I’d actually do the crispy rice paper dumpling recipe more. It’s I think more fun to make and eat as a snack! Love your videos!! And your makeup is always on point!! ✌🏻❤️👊🏻👊🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
What about ricotta toast with salmon??
Smoked salmon
You should gets some furikake to sprinkle on top of rice and salmon. You can get it in Japanese shops. It's a mix of nori, sesame and there are a few different varieties like bonito as well. It's great for a fast seasoning hack.
I’m asking myself why I’m watching this when I don’t like salmon🙈 well bc I love Rachel of course!! She can make anything entertaining 😂
Use tuna or shredded chicken. It's not really a recipe.
I have that sweater in yellow!
These rice bowls are like someone isolated from western food melting cheese between two pieces of grilled bread and everyone thinking they invented something. This is normal, everyday, food for lots of people.
Thank you for saying what I was thinking too Lmaoo
I’ve seen grilled cheese go viral. It’s not about it being a new invention. It’s one persona take on the same thing that everyone else does another way.
Try making a grilled cheese with kimchi! It’s so good! Also a video making dishes would kimchi would be very cool
I made the first one but I added pickles and it was delicious! Kinda like relish in tuna salad
If you soaked the rice paper less they wouldn't as soggy and would fry better! Hope that helps!
Ps. Love your videos!!
Exactly, all the papers need is a quick dip in water. They soften up just enough while you prepare them.
Have you made a video trying the sushi bazooka yet??? That would be fun to watch.
2 words: Salmon Cakes
Growing up in a Jewish houshold this was always a thing.
Also Smoked salmon chunks in scrambled eggs. The light frying of the smoked salmon is awesome!
yayy i’m first!!❤️❤️❤️can’t wait for it!!!
Once you try Kewpie mayo, you never go back - it's sooooo goooood
Rachel's microwave was probably being a little more flakey than the "leftover" salmon by operating at 80% power so as not to give the cold shoulder to Rachel's excessive ice cube dispensing ice cube dispenser.
I have been doing the salmon bowl, but with canned salmon and even canned tuna and it is also super good. Cheaper and easier since you don't have to have premade salmon!
Rachel always makes me go to the store to buy everything to try the wins 😂
A trick for hard avocados, is to place them in a paper bag with some bananas and then seal the paper bag with like a potato chip bag clip. Then just let them sit there overnight and usually buy dinner the next day your avocados are perfect
When I was in college they had a Asian couple who had a stand And they sold something very similar to the salmon bowl but with chicken and we always called them hot bowls and they were delicious!
Now I must have salmon for dinner!!!😋
love your videos, xoxo
We can't even get kewpie mayo in my backwoods town. So I can't try this recipe...would love to though because I love salmon and this looked delightful.
When your avocados are slightly soft put them in the fridge and they will last a long time. Most of the time my store doesn’t sell them ripe yet so I buy 7 or more at a time ( I eat one a day) and leave them on my counter until they soften and then in the fridge they go and they are always perfect even on the 7th day
Hey Rach, kimchi is really good with Ramen noodles too. Along with a chopped up boiled egg. Try it sometime.
