Great demonstration Daniel Norton! Its true many of us in the begining want to get rid off shadows later realizing they add depth and contrast. Thanks ADORAMA for having someone of the level of Daniel Norton on your channel to make the best out of all the great Gear you offer on your store!
@5:35 her right side of her face seems to be rather blown out... I'm just wondering, is this because the two strobes are 'clashing' at that part of her face?.., As I continue (@7:59) to watch (and wait) for the shooting to scale down on the brightness of the right side of her face it seems that this isn't going to happen. I wonder what would happen if you lessened the luminance of the smaller size box it would cut down on the brightness of her right side?
Now, this particular setup. Where would you use this professionally? I love setups like this. This is just more of a personal preference that I'm curious about.
Don't even need a studio. You can easily do this in many places. If you're using constant light, give a dark backdrop in a darker area and fill in with your constant light, however you can. Get your talent to turn towards it if it's stationary, or finesse it, as Daniel did. If you're using strobes and outside, high speed sync is one way if you have strong enough strobes, or an ND filter, get a black frame and then add your lights as you want 😊 Of course, if you didn't know this. If you did, disregard completely 😂😂
My first business was called Chiaroscuro Photographics, this was in '76. Guess what...we shot in B&W, not a lot of money in our pockets back then...same old same old..lol.

Serene model was ideal for this video. Great dress, nice expressions, and good lighting. Thank you.

I like shadows that add depth just have to control the type of shadows is truly where the secret is👍
Guess I had the wrong definition for Chiaroscuro in my mind for many years. Thanks. Very helpful.
You posted a new video on my birthday. I"m touched...:-)

Could you have used a reflector on the shadow side of the face to create a similar effect ?
No, a classic reflector does not give you the control - perhaps a small mirror could work though
I didn't think so but doesn't hurt to ask. One other thing I really enjoy your tutorials and truly e joy the banter between you and the models.
SUPER. SUPER , THE BEST VIDEOS

Great video. Why doesn't Profoto ever go on sale? I mean you can find them used at Adorama but there goes the 2 yr. warranty :-(
Thanks 🙏🏻 they sometimes have package deals
To increase the contrast, couldn't you turn down the dynamic range on the camera ?
Been using Caravaggio's technique for years...
Cool
You model would be perfect for a Mona Lisa riff shoot.
For sure
