Wonderful performance. I can't believe that someone actually said that the violinist was not very skilled. Many people are used to the sweet pretty playing of many of todays players. Heifetz was an aggressive player , that's one of the things I love about him.
If Heifetz had something to say on his violin you knew about it.
This was a live performance recorded 80 years ago, and I'd like to hear violinists of today play under the same conditions.

Heifetz, toujours aussi rapide, incisif et d'une précision chirurgicale.

Although played quite well, this is NOT Heifetz`s rendition- neither sound production, nor left hand action & articulation would stand up to his highest standards.
At times JH might have sounded a bit aggressive, but NEVER harsh or heavy (due to his personal artistic aspirations and a fabulous bow by Nikolai Kittel- super sprightly and light).

The exact same recording is on Spotify under Heifetz name: „Jascha Heifetz Collection, Vol 4.“ by Doremi. So I guess it is. But I mean this is live at the Bell telephone hour broadcast so here you have on Heifetz recording thats still perfect in technical quality but a little bit aggressive. On the other hand, i think its also due to the audio quality. The Beethoven VC recording from the same album / disc sounds also a little bit aggressive on the higher notes.

Wrong, Jascha Heifetz never played Fritz Kreisler, just one is Melody by Gluck , are. by Kreisler.

I do think the violinist is very skilled, but this performer missed a lot of the spittatos and a lot of the bowings sounds very scratchy. It's either his playing or the quality of the video. Also, the tempo is very inconsisent. It seems more like a challenge to survive than a solid performance. I think this performer is good, but he just had a bad run and it just happened to be recorded. For a better performance, I recommend Oistrakh's performance, which is really amazing to watch.

Brian Meiser this person is named Jascha Heifetz. He is known as the greatest violinist of all time, and there is yet to be anyone at his level. Even the greats today like Perlman bow down to this person. This is also probably around 70-80 year old recording. But there is no violinist better than this player. He has, and earned the respect of top violinists of the 20th century and his playing is thought to be legendary.

@@jaden9821 Yeah, but everybody has flops and I'm sure this is one of them. This might be scratchy because of the recording, but definitely, the articulations and tempo being missed is not the recording's fault, but rather his own. I'm not questioning the performer, but rather the performance.

@@brianmeiser4121Actually, it might just be his style. His style is different from the standard playing. However, I don't know technically. His sound live is known to be the richest and the deepest sound ever. However, it is evident in other recordings that there are a few scratches. It's probably so because the mic is too close. However, I respectfully disagree and his articulations and tempo is probably intentional, rather than a mistake.
