The husband installed a Kwikset touchpad lock, (back door only) but all of our locks are keyed Schlage/Baldwin. DUH! Now I'm stuck with having two keys to unluck our back door. Great informative video... the husband says I'm stuck with the Kwikset since it took him too long to install it. Wish I'd seen your video sooner... but thank you anyway. *wink wink*
I've found too that the KIK cylinders do work in the B60 deadbolts, as long as the tailpieces stop horizontally. They don't necessarily have to stop at that 45 deg angle.
Thanks Jason! I lease, and my landlord uses kwikset smartkey:( I've got a schlage b60 deadbolt that I can convert so he can still get in. You said the conversion plug fits the schlage cylinder. How do they get around the different spacing?
The incremental difference in kwikset and schlage pin to pin is. .006 the face of the cylinder could be used to make up the difference between the shoulder to the first cut not sure if this is how they do just how i would
Kwikset has a broader bottom on the bottoms of their pins, and broader cuts on the key to match. Their cuts are 0.064" wide. Schlage cuts on the other hand, have .031" wide flats. Using Schlage bottom pins on a Kwikset key, you have an added spacing tolerance of +-0.0165", which is just enough to work with a Kwikset key with the Schlage pin spacing as-is.
@@selock i compared them at homedepot inc anada here, the weiser levers have a more stiff lever, but the schalge one the lever wiggles more. does that matter?
I have a Defiant lock which is keyed for a Schlage keyway. I'd like to convert it to a Kwikset but cannot find a cylinder plug that fits. Any recommendations?
You won't find that, you will just need to replace the entire deadbolt with the Kwikset keyed version (which most Defiant's are anyway) If it is a electronic lock, which it likely is with a Schlage keyway, then you will still need to replace the entire thing but consider upgrading to a better quality lock
Double cylinder gate latch smart key system . Asked flake if they had double sided cylinder gate latch . Had asked if they had reg kwikset , and said it was discontinued. So I took the smart one. Have had problems with screw bag mounting screws . Have any of you had this issue ?
I've used these conversion cylinders for years, but now my supplier is telling me that Schlage discontinued making these WR cylinders to fit Schlage knobs and levers.

Great video Jason, thanks for showing and explaining this 😊
Awesome, I've never used a conversion plug. Thanks for the video!
Where do you get the plugs?
Great video Jason
where you buy those cylinders

Do you have a link to someplace that sells the conversion cylinders? I’ve never seen one.
Thx for the very informative video.
I have a kwikset key and want to get a Schlage door knob lock.. can I rekey the Schlage lock to my kwikset key? Thank you for help!

which brand is better?
Schlage. Weiser stopped exporting to the US

Is there a cap removal tool for Baldwin cylinders? I really hate the screw caps they use for their cylinders. I got to try and make my own I guess.
Can you use Kwikset smart key with Weiser keys?
No. You can key Weiser locks to Kwikset but cannot key Kwikset locks to a Weiser key
So if I have a weiser keyway, I can take a kwikset key and rekey the weiser lock to use it?

I won't install those horrible ones. Schlage B252 or nothing! It's expensive but as hard as gates are on the locks it's best

Where do you get them?
I know my father has an old conversion kit, but that's all 90's and older stuff.
They made a sc-1 keyed cylinder for the pop in kwiksets knob sets years ago 400T etc
Quit making them also ~~
Figures they would be discontinued 😞
Junk! one good kick and the whole lock in the knob goes flying off
