This is pretty much how I learn't to skank in the school yard around 79 (UK 2 Tone). If you watch carefully, the most important part of this style of skanking is the little pause/pull-back that matches the ska rhythm. That part seems to be missing in some of the other skank videos, which just look like basic kicking without it. I was out recently with some of the younger ones from work and the band played some ska songs, so I started skanking. I don't know if they knew what the hell I was doing but I was the only one doing it. Got clapped at the end tho :) This guy is very good and I think I'll add a couple of his cool extra moves next time I get the chance :)

From 1980 onward's I Skanked like this...SKA & Reggae are still massive influences on my Musical Loves...Awesome Video and Thank You for Uploading it...Not so energetic these days though lol but Love to watch people Skanking to the Tunes >.< Excellent

Skanking caught popularity here in the stinky States in the 70s and 80s (I've always lived in California), and I can say without a doubt I wasn't skanking properly. I had fun anyway. Enjoyed your dancing!! You're adorable.

Hey man, music changes. Don't generalize. I'm an american in a ska band. I understand all that, but as a musician I like to incorporate different genres into my music. I do like this kind of skanking more than the skanking style in america though. Don't get angry man. That guy is completely wrong though.

I honestly dont believe there is a correct way to skank...I believe that as long as you keep the pit going [unless you are skanking in place(which happens in most crowded place)] and your feet alternate on the upbeats then i call it skanking....but there are ways of looking kool while skanking...what this guy is doing is flipping awesome...I went to go see mustard plug awhile back and this 40 year old guy was skanking so close to the ground that people almost tripped on top of the guy lol
