Indian actress Deepika Padukone and Pakistani actor Fawad Khan took to the runway for veteran designer Manish Malhotra's new collection, called "The Persian Story."
The lavish fashion show kick-started the five day India Couture Week 2016 in New Delhi on Wednesday (20 JULY 2016), and saw Malhotra - one of India's leading fashion designers - present an opulent line inspired by Persian architecture.
Lehengas with indulgent hand-woven gold embroidery on sheer and velvet fabrics; velvet jackets teamed with cigarette trousers; detailed gowns and regal sherwanis were among the items.
However, the standout looks were modeled by Khan and Padukone.
Khan sported a black kurta, while Padukone stole the show dressed in Malhotra's red-velvet bridal lehenga.
Speaking backstage, Malhotra revealed that Padukone's ensemble took three months to make.
"The work is very old world and if you see it's architectural and this technique is badla work, which takes a lot of time to do," said the designer.
The show, which was also attended by veteran Bollywood actor Shabana Azmi, and celebrities like Sophie Chaudhary and Pernia Qureshi, got the thumbs up from the fashion crowd.
However, despite his talent and years of experience, Malhotra admitted he was nervous before the event.
"I think all of us who love their work and they love their craft and want to get better and better, get nervous. I was hysterical backstage," he said. "It's for me an emotional moment and I want to see that everything is good and everything is fabulous."
Other designers to showcase their work over the next few days include Rohit Bal, Tarun Tahiliani and Anita Dongre.

India made money out of Fawad 😂 Fawad got more money than What he received from your Pak Industry, also increased followers on insta, due to the chance he got in Bollywood. After returning, his price money became more as he debuted in Bollywood. And there are lots lots and lots of talents in India itself, they long for one chance to shine, and since they don't get easy chance, that's why there are many strugglers inspite of enduring talents. Therefore, we don't need an outsider. We just appreciate a talent and give a better stage to perform. Fawad is a gem for sure. After returning from Bollywood, he hiked his signing amount.
