A few people have started to re-examine that vision as others have come to pass now, and people are speculating it may take place during the events of The Last Titan.
I was a teenager when MoP came out, so you can argue I grew up alongside Anduin. His empathy and his borderline stubborn desires for peace have always been something I've admired about him. Anduin is genuinely one of my favorite characters in this franchise, maybe in fiction overall, and I'll die in the trenches for my boy. He's got a heart of gold and wears his intentions on his sleeve, and even though he's hurting and confused and feels lost, I'm really excited to be with him on his journey of healing and self-redemption.
Same here. I always thought his character was interesting, but MoP was when I started to become really invested in him. He's really... grounded? Immense? He's just got such a deep well of feeling and can be a very impactful force for other characters. The fact that I believe he's capable of that is a testament to how his character has been done. I haven't been playing for a VERY long time now, but still check in on the story and my favorite characters. I really hope Anduin gets his due and his dreams, and can rest in satisfaction after rather than being plunged into another tragedy. Really hope he gets more super epic moments too, he's just so cool and his theme is AWESOME. One of my favorite pieces of music.
My favourite questline ever was the Adnuin/Wrathion Legendary line. I was also blown away from the Legion Cinematic of him going to where his dad was slain, the insane ammount of conflict they managed to create within him. Him being forced to challenge his ideologies, and completely abandon everything he believed in was absolutely epic and tragic. I have’nt played much since Legion so idk what happened yet, just started the video 😅
Anduin is one of my favorite characters too, and it makes me sad when other people think he's boring or a p*ssy. He's such a strong and complex character
They're not killing him. He's clearly being developed into their new front figure. On that note, it's not torture. Like I said, he's developing as a character. Always being a goody two shoes and frankly a wuss. He's finally been growing as a character and quite a convincing way too. It's not like with a lot of other characters where you don't really feel it's a believable change. He's got gritted teeth now but still shows compassion. This is a time where he's been shown a lot of grey area. Anduin was always good at seeing that things aren't just black & white, but he's now coming to grips with the many tones of grey he maybe only vaguely knew existed.
I’ve never been a fan of the Alliance but I always had a soft spot for Anduin. I quit after MoP and it broke my heart to see the tortured man Anduin had become in the War Within cinematic.
It hurts to see him so troubled, but at the end of the cinematic, he’s standing with Thrall, not walking away. My hope is that like his father, his scars are only going to make him stronger.
as a returning player who has always felt behind and unsure how to sift through heaps of lore, i’ve been loving these videos. Would love to see in exactly like this about Sylvanas (hoping for a reception arc), and Thrall.
An amazing video, though I feel like you passed up on the Gathering / Arathi Highlands Massacre (it would have been good to mention how he tried to make peace with Sylvanas after Legion, and why he set down the path for BfA) and also his relationship with Genn Greymane, who is essentially his pseudo-father and their relationship is honestly pretty important since Varian's death.
What a banger of a video. THANK YOU so much for making this! I saw the new cinematic and it was obvious that I had some catching up to do. This was perfect for that. Thank you!
I've been saying this since I saw Katrina Praestor standing next to my boy... "Protect Anduin at all cost". He is so pure and awesome. Dude has been through so much. He kinda reminds me of Gohan in how kind yet strong he is.
Bellular, thank you! Please make more of these. I'm a family man now and cannot devote hours a day to an MMO. But these lore chunks from the perspective of different major characters is a great summary of the WoW story and would help keep me updated even though I can no longer play. Top of my list for next videos would be Arthas and Thrall.
Thank you, that was wonderful. Anduin's been my favorite since I started playing in BC. Every time we saw him, interacted with him, he fascinated me. The growth he's gone through has been amazing. And yes, the domination was horrible, My brother's a former Marine who saw some real bad stuff when he was in (1980s). I could see what was going on with Anduin was going to hurt more than ever and I knew it was going to be bad. But even with that, what we saw in the new announcement broke my heart. I've seen that very reaction with my brother and I know the PTSD. I am wanting to see where Anduin goes from here and how he works through being with his "friends" and his kingdom again. A fear there's going to be some fight with Turalyon about who is going to hold the throne of Stormwind.
Fantastic video. Would love to see more of these single character spotlights like this. There's a bunch of characters who bounce in and out of focus that have been around for a long time that I feel would be interesting to get the synopsis of. I feel like I learned a lot about the surrounding characters through this video on Anduin as well. Really well done.
Calling it now, when Asmongler is going to react to this, he is still going to call Anduin a Crybaby b*tch, while refusing to accept any of his lore, because in his mind Anduin is always a crybaby b*tch, everything that happened to him, is still somehow not enough to justify his trauma.
Bellular actually making the story (during Shadowlands) actually sound good - something Blizzard struggled to do. I think Anduins story has been pretty consistent to be fair.

Agreed. In the cinematic he says "I have no light" and I'm just thinking, of course you do, you're here and you're alive and you are free. You couldn't have done that without any light. Poor boy needs a hug.
Thanks for this. I don't even have an active sub, but I played since Beta. It's the story that keeps me coming back, at this point. As you noted, the lore of the Stormwind court was integral from the start. Anduin's fate is tied up with everything.
Great summary. I didn't play Shadowlands, so I needed to know what happened to him and why. Now I understand the trailer for the War Within much better!

I once heard and read from some old lore that in WoW every being has a single "soul" within itself which allows it to "will" itself in the realm. The soul in itself is naturally at a certain balance between Light and Shadow where persistent moods and thoughts arise and go. Take a look at the Lightforged questline where a Draenei goes through the trials to become a Lightforged. Or more recently, a spirit latching on to Shandris as Lilian Voss helps her in the Emerald Dream overcome her grief. I think that with Shadowlands we had alot of thoughts about the "machinations" behind souls. Soul-Forges, Soulbinding, Soul Destruction etc. War Within will probably be about what exactly a soul is to begin with, and how the cosmic forces are constantly attempting to latch onto or tear apart souls. This is a theme that was always present in WoW since the very beginning, but never something that was explored in-depth. And I strongly believe that "memories" and shared emotions are something in WoW that can temeporarly bring back entities that were long gone as the individual struggles with similar issues. We saw that in Anduin's Shalamayne moment where you hear the soft voice "My son" rather sound like King Menethil as he has the hand placed on his shoulder, and the ghastly effects of the short moment in the clip shows the blue light of his soul being drawn towards (probably) Shalamayne itself. I believe that Anduin is "possessed" in that way, by Arthas' spirit and legacy, as he is going through similar emotions and a similar story as Arthas did, with the only twist that he faults himself for something he actually wasn't responsible for. So if you see the Light and Shadow as two extremes of a slidebar for the human soul and condition, Anduin right now is leaning towards the Shadow, and is therefore unable to find his Light back. Since the Emerald Dream received a gift from the Shadowlands which enabled it to spawn a World Tree into Existence, I believe that this is partly due to the fact that the Veil was broken, and at the same time, what was in the Maw in Shadowlands, is now born into Reality, into Azeroth itself, and I believe that we are witnessing the birth of a New Old God we were responsible for and that we will get alot of stuff about the void / shadow, and definitely some bugs to kill.
I often call Anduin “the boy king” cause despite being thrust into the role of king and having dealt with so much he’s still just a boy going through too much. Still as a lifetime horde player i respect the boy king.
Wow I didn’t know about those comics and all that extra lore, pretty crazy how someone can just die to a rock hitting them in the head in a world full of magical beings! Also very ironic that the black dragons tried to overthrow his family and was responsible for so much bad in his childhood and yet he becomes good friends with a black dragon later on in life.
I think an important thing that was left out, the mention of Varian having a Aggressive mentality from that Loh'gosh stuff only really lasted until cataclysm when he met Genn and the Worgen. Canonically the Worgen we see are the ones who have gone through a ritual to reclaim control of themselves and temper the beastly anger. So like yeah MoP was pure Faction war, but Varian was a lot more tempered then than people might remember. Reality is that Varian was ripped away from Anduin when they were just starting to get along again...
This made me wonder if its posible to make a video on the full story of Stormwind and/or ogrimar? Not the peopel in focus but a story about the full story about the capitol cities? Maby not just alliance and horde.
I still remember playing WoW classic when I was in middle school (2004) and seeing a little kid in the throne room of Storm Wind. "Have you heard any news of my father?" He asked me. I never would have thought that this brat would become a hero I love today at 31 years of age.
Amazing resume man, you did a great job, blizzard should do stuff like this and add a tab for lore description, and a bestiary, i think is not a bad idea, they just have to wrrite and put some images, and new players that defeat new monsters can read the descriptions.
I normally don’t comment on these videos, but this particular instance bothered me, so I thought I’d give some feedback: I know you have to do the sponsor thing to keep the lights on and keep people employed. We get it, that’s how it works around here. Just maybe…don’t start telling a story and immediately break away with a sponsor segment, especially since it’s right after character X died and character Y lashed out in vengeance. It’s a bit tacky? I think tacky is the right word to use here.
I wonder what they get paid extra to do shit sponsor placements. There has to be an incentive otherwise youd just do them at the start or end for best viewing experience

for me this character parallels myself in so many ways hardships and all even losing my father in 2016 through Anduin i copied and healed
He's much more open minded then the general alliance leaders which is such a Nobel trait
This was well made and very informative!
"Even the very best could be twisted by pain."
He cries too much we need a strong king
Ok asmon
I hope they make Turalyon a fanatic against Anduin. It would be a great "The Light" story line.
I have a tattoo from the defias story line because of how heartbreaking and interesting it is.
What's more tragic is what we could have had if Danuser hadn't been given the reins.
Alas, that's time we won't get back.
Very nice video m8! I love the WoW lore!
This made me wonder if its posible to make a video on the full story of Stormwind and/or ogrimar? Not the peopel in focus but a story about the full story about the capitol cities? Maby not just alliance and horde.
Love the video and storytelling!
Amazing job! Video is perfect!
I relate to punished anduin hard. His loss of innocense mirrors us as we grew up.
I can never return to Azeroth but I plan to binge your content bc I have been wondering what’s up with the story. Thank you.
Sweet new video and sweet new glasses 👍👍
I still remember playing WoW classic when I was in middle school (2004) and seeing a little kid in the throne room of Storm Wind. "Have you heard any news of my father?" He asked me. I never would have thought that this brat would become a hero I love today at 31 years of age.
Too bad Varian didn't realize he could just turn sideways to fit through those prison cell bars.
The wrynns deserve a better outcome for there family...such a legendary bloodline I feel a dying is destined for so,etching greater then we think
Amazing resume man, you did a great job, blizzard should do stuff like this and add a tab for lore description, and a bestiary, i think is not a bad idea, they just have to wrrite and put some images, and new players that defeat new monsters can read the descriptions.
This - It'd be a great addition to the Adventure Guide.
I normally don’t comment on these videos, but this particular instance bothered me, so I thought I’d give some feedback:
I know you have to do the sponsor thing to keep the lights on and keep people employed. We get it, that’s how it works around here. Just maybe…don’t start telling a story and immediately break away with a sponsor segment, especially since it’s right after character X died and character Y lashed out in vengeance. It’s a bit tacky? I think tacky is the right word to use here.

+1 that was not the best move for sure
I wonder what they get paid extra to do shit sponsor placements. There has to be an incentive otherwise youd just do them at the start or end for best viewing experience
