Anduin was born into a 16 bit world.
I’ve never been a fan of the Alliance but I always had a soft spot for Anduin. I quit after MoP and it broke my heart to see the tortured man Anduin had become in the War Within cinematic.
It hurts to see him so troubled, but at the end of the cinematic, he’s standing with Thrall, not walking away. My hope is that like his father, his scars are only going to make him stronger.
yeah its kind of an emotional scare and struggle than a physical one but I like it. seems more realistic and human to me.

I think Sylv’s story is over and her redemption is serving her time in the shadowlands.

You missed one big story when he was learning under Prophet velen, velen saw vision of Anduin leading army of light against Void 😮
A few people have started to re-examine that vision as others have come to pass now, and people are speculating it may take place during the events of The Last Titan.

I've been saying this since I saw Katrina Praestor standing next to my boy... "Protect Anduin at all cost". He is so pure and awesome. Dude has been through so much. He kinda reminds me of Gohan in how kind yet strong he is.

I really liked the bfa Story and the atmosphere and zones (except borrowed power) but sl was super shit in every regard

Thank you, that was wonderful. Anduin's been my favorite since I started playing in BC. Every time we saw him, interacted with him, he fascinated me. The growth he's gone through has been amazing. And yes, the domination was horrible, My brother's a former Marine who saw some real bad stuff when he was in (1980s). I could see what was going on with Anduin was going to hurt more than ever and I knew it was going to be bad. But even with that, what we saw in the new announcement broke my heart. I've seen that very reaction with my brother and I know the PTSD. I am wanting to see where Anduin goes from here and how he works through being with his "friends" and his kingdom again. A fear there's going to be some fight with Turalyon about who is going to hold the throne of Stormwind.
Trauma for days but one hell of a glow up
Fantastic video. Would love to see more of these single character spotlights like this. There's a bunch of characters who bounce in and out of focus that have been around for a long time that I feel would be interesting to get the synopsis of. I feel like I learned a lot about the surrounding characters through this video on Anduin as well. Really well done.

People hate because Anduin is not going "waaargh" like a baboon-brained Garrosh.
They cant handle that he's got actual character.
People think he's weak but everything he's done since BFA shows otherwise.
I think it's more because of how his character has been handled. Just because you seek peace doesn't necessarily make you a more complex, written and/or interesting character.. Especially when several of his traits/things he's been through are largely derivative of characters already done in a more engrossing way imho.
An amazing video, though I feel like you passed up on the Gathering / Arathi Highlands Massacre (it would have been good to mention how he tried to make peace with Sylvanas after Legion, and why he set down the path for BfA) and also his relationship with Genn Greymane, who is essentially his pseudo-father and their relationship is honestly pretty important since Varian's death.

Maybe in this expansion's mini series we'll see Anduin in one of the episodes and how he dealt with all this trauma, where he was and what he thought.
It s clear he didn t del with trauma yet. I hope that he s going to grew eaven more and fix his soul.

Thanks for this. I don't even have an active sub, but I played since Beta. It's the story that keeps me coming back, at this point. As you noted, the lore of the Stormwind court was integral from the start. Anduin's fate is tied up with everything.
anduin is so stubborn that he managed to convince varian wrynn to strive for peace with the horde. and varian is one of the most stubborn bastards in the world. like father like son i suppose.

…why? What makes you randomly so sure of that? It would be quite pathetic if that were true. It would mean to let Arthas have ownership over the long hair look. Why should Anduin let Arthas control him in that way?
@@ChinnuWoW I agree and I think it was part of the "hiding away" thing. Cut the hair that everyone identifies him with, grow the beard, dress down. He's not wanting to be found, so he changes his look. Simple explanation.
It was so he could hide. He didn't want to get found. And, remember, his hair was long like his dad's was. At one point Genn remarks to Varian about his obsession with his long hair. Anduin was doing what his dad did, even if it was unconsciously. He didn't know Arthas much, if any. He was a small boy when some of the Lich King started. He would have heard the stories, of course, but he wasn't involved with him. Cutting the hair, growing the beard, and dressing way down (no armor) was a way to be a wanderer without a lot of people asking a whole lot of questions, he was wanting to "disappear" and just think.

I normally don’t comment on these videos, but this particular instance bothered me, so I thought I’d give some feedback:
I know you have to do the sponsor thing to keep the lights on and keep people employed. We get it, that’s how it works around here. Just maybe…don’t start telling a story and immediately break away with a sponsor segment, especially since it’s right after character X died and character Y lashed out in vengeance. It’s a bit tacky? I think tacky is the right word to use here.

I still remember playing WoW classic when I was in middle school (2004) and seeing a little kid in the throne room of Storm Wind. "Have you heard any news of my father?" He asked me. I never would have thought that this brat would become a hero I love today at 31 years of age.

I imagine they make it a MASSIVE moment when his Gem changes from Red to either Yellow(( for the Light)) or Orange, for Balance
or green for Fel or purple for Void
I once heard and read from some old lore that in WoW every being has a single "soul" within itself which allows it to "will" itself in the realm. The soul in itself is naturally at a certain balance between Light and Shadow where persistent moods and thoughts arise and go.
Take a look at the Lightforged questline where a Draenei goes through the trials to become a Lightforged.
Or more recently, a spirit latching on to Shandris as Lilian Voss helps her in the Emerald Dream overcome her grief. I think that with Shadowlands we had alot of thoughts about the "machinations" behind souls. Soul-Forges, Soulbinding, Soul Destruction etc. War Within will probably be about what exactly a soul is to begin with, and how the cosmic forces are constantly attempting to latch onto or tear apart souls. This is a theme that was always present in WoW since the very beginning, but never something that was explored in-depth. And I strongly believe that "memories" and shared emotions are something in WoW that can temeporarly bring back entities that were long gone as the individual struggles with similar issues. We saw that in Anduin's Shalamayne moment where you hear the soft voice "My son" rather sound like King Menethil as he has the hand placed on his shoulder, and the ghastly effects of the short moment in the clip shows the blue light of his soul being drawn towards (probably) Shalamayne itself. I believe that Anduin is "possessed" in that way, by Arthas' spirit and legacy, as he is going through similar emotions and a similar story as Arthas did, with the only twist that he faults himself for something he actually wasn't responsible for. So if you see the Light and Shadow as two extremes of a slidebar for the human soul and condition, Anduin right now is leaning towards the Shadow, and is therefore unable to find his Light back. Since the Emerald Dream received a gift from the Shadowlands which enabled it to spawn a World Tree into Existence, I believe that this is partly due to the fact that the Veil was broken, and at the same time, what was in the Maw in Shadowlands, is now born into Reality, into Azeroth itself, and I believe that we are witnessing the birth of a New Old God we were responsible for and that we will get alot of stuff about the void / shadow, and definitely some bugs to kill.
One of the only proper storyline that has continued from vanilla until now! ❤

I often call Anduin “the boy king” cause despite being thrust into the role of king and having dealt with so much he’s still just a boy going through too much. Still as a lifetime horde player i respect the boy king.

I was hoping you would say it in the video, or if someone can answer here, but I believe Anduin was around 14/15 when Shadowlands happened and is barely going into adulthood in War Within.
I'd flip out if I had to deal with what He's gone through in my pre-teens and teenage years.
Hey! Canonically, Anduin is a decent bit older than that. He was born 10 years after the first war. BFA was year 33, Shadowlands 35-36.

Wow you are an amazing story teller ...I had no clue about these specific details about the sword, BRD, Becoming Velen's Pupil ..i wish this was Implemented in the game therefore we the viewers and players would've been drawn to the entire story more.. even in shadowlands.. only if they would have followed this method the story would've been awesome

I'm confused, but aren't WE (the players) the ones who unmasked Onyxia/Prestor ? (and the varian/logosh story being told off screen) ?
we were but thats not the official canon, in the official canon we basically were part of the guards who went with varien to confront her, this weaving technique happens alot in the lore, not necessarily a retcon or atleast not one thats severe enough for me to say it was the wrong choice.
@@SonUvSolarus69blizzard also said too that in the future they never wanted to do that again. Since going that route made us feel like we didn’t actually kill Onyxia.

Anduin's story is basically a punching bag of the writers. All he gets are Ls handed to him without redeeming qualities needed in a leader.
that's the idea of Anduin, of all the faction leaders he is the only one that was "forced" into the position. and your right, he does not have the quality of a leader his father had but that does not make him a punching bag(except for shadowland, that was really bad)
@mykulpierce that is very funny you think that. That is literally how it is to be Horde unless you play Orcs or Forsaken cause the previous writing team had Sylvanas body pillows. Imagine seeing the portion of the faction Anduin leads never seeing consequences and somehow all he takes are Ls.
@@herrnein4164 the alliance forces were never shown to be under anduin's control. From boyhood on, the intrigue and corruption of 3rd party forces always high jacks his intended leadership. He never lead effectively.
@@shini1908 he is the perpetual "boy king" naive and ineffective in leadership. He doesn't know how to handle the corruption of Stormwind and caught between the light and dark outer planer influences.

Hey bellular is there a video of the explanation of what happened after mists of pandaria to like legion or BOA I was a veteran back in TBC all the way to Cataclysm but I stopped playing rate after only to come back at the very end of shadowlands and have been hard into DF so far but I’m confused on the whole lore part? Honestly, I would really like Sylvanas to help Anduin with trauma he has... When she tried to force him to help them with their cause, she saw something in him, and she was changed because of it. She wont be redeemed but just because she is trying to be better or something she could like try and visit Anduin and give him a lesson, speech, motivation how strong and diffrent he is. I dont know myself, but I just imagined scenario in my head where Sylvanas would come from maw to help Anduin in dire situation to fight off void or something. Not to be redeemed or to be a part of the group, but to help Anduin since she saw hope in him.

"She went ballistic and caused a slaughter" you got that dead wrong. Anduin brought an insurgent in Calia who attempted to encourage the Forsaken present into insurrection despite they didn't want to and Sylvanas retaliated. Not saying she was the righteous one in doing so but to paint it as if she did it without cause is just plain wrong and misleading.
Amazing resume man, you did a great job, blizzard should do stuff like this and add a tab for lore description, and a bestiary, i think is not a bad idea, they just have to wrrite and put some images, and new players that defeat new monsters can read the descriptions.

16:32 Point of contention: Varian and Sylvanas didn't make a suicidal attempt to stop the legion. That suggests they just went in guns a-blazing to sacrifice themselves to the greater good. They thought they had made a researched and well thought out plan that ultimately turned out to be part of a trap.
