Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 чер 2024
- Shakedown Hawaii is the sequel to indie hit Retro City Rampage and comes from the extremely talented Brian Provinciano. A 16 bit 'Grand Theft Auto' using the classic top down view, can it live up to the hype? Find out in our Shakedown Hawaii Nintendo Switch review video...
#ShakedownHawaii #NintendoSwitch #Review
Official Synopsis: -
Shakedown: Hawaii follows three protagonists through a 16-bit open world. Build your own "legitimate" corporation by completing missions, acquiring businesses, sabotaging competitors, "re-zoning" land, and shaking down shops for protection money.
Explore the island by foot, by car, or by boat. It's filled with arcade challenges, sidequests, stores to shop at, houses to burgle, civilians to interact with, and secrets to discover.
You begin your adventure as an aging CEO, struggling to make sense of the modern world. Online shopping killed his retail stores, ride sharing his taxi business, and streaming his video stores. To save the company, he'll need to learn the "methods" of modern business, and use them to rebuild his empire.
The entire island is up for grabs... or at least, could be with the right business model.
It's business in the front, and bodies in the back... in Shakedown: Hawaii.

Mark & Glen - Ігри
For my money, this is pixel art done to perfection. I know the style has been seriously overused in recent years but this game is a perfect example of just how amazing it can still look when the right amount of care and effort is put into it. What do you think? Glen
I'm buying this go nice with saints row, assassins creed can wait
2341 5h4m3 ... both! I sure am.
2341 5h4m3 Do you seriously need to ask that question?!! You’re Switch of course!!!
It’s absolutely mind blowing how many sprites are used for all the vehicle angles and character animations. Lavish production.
IT looks DAMN good
I will never get tired of pixel games and this one looks hilarious!! I love the movement in the world like the trees and even the fans on the ac units above the buildings...those details really stood out to me. ❤
Yeah, it’s those nice little touches that really give it some character. Glen
Wouldn’t have bothered with this game until I saw this. As always so much care and thought goes into these reviews. Love the scoring system. Definitely picking this up soon. Thanks guys
Outstanding review. beautifully detailed and knowledgable.
well , i never knew this was a retro city rampage spiritual successor. loved that game. i think the graphics give me a 'zombies ate my neighbours' from the snes feel for some reason...
That had not occurred to me but now you mention it, the character models are very similar to Zombies ate my neighbours. Especially the idle animations. Glen
@@SwitchUpYt i just had a look at some videos, yes they are pretty similar. i loved that style too.
I've heard a lot of people talk about this game but never seen anything about it, thanks for review
No worries. I’d been looking forward to this one for a while. Glad it didn’t disappoint. Glen
This actually looks super fan-dan-tastic. I loved GTA2. Played the demo hundreds of times because I was too young to get a job to buy the actual full PC version. Great review, Glen.
Chinatown Wars on the DS was one of my fav's of all time. I am soooo looking forward to this. Day one pick up. Thanks for the stellar review. Happy Gaming!!!
This wasn't even on my radar. Now it definitely is! Beautiful review as always!
Cheers mate, yeah, this one delivered on the promise. I had been waiting for so long for it. Glen
Why did this have to come out right after swords of ditto!! Gonna have to pick it up. Great review
A great, honest review as always! Thank you so much for this Glen, I look forward to picking this game up on Tuesday!
Thank you, glad you found it useful. Hope you enjoy the game as much as I have. Glen
When you mentioned Brian Provinciano, I thought that was a satirical name, I had to look it up. What an apt name for a developer of games that boast social commentary.
U guys make the best reviews and you always cover games I’m interested in. Good job boys. The artwork on Shakedown Hawaii looks awesome, I’m sold on that alone.
Thank you. Always nice to get such a positive comment. Glen
Patiently waiting for that Shadow of Adam review. Thanks for another in depth review this is a definite purchase
I'll get it done in sure! Just need a good uninterrupted run at it. Mark
Great review, been looking for a decent switch reviewer and now ive found this channel, oh yeh the game is great, the property market is addictive
So much information in this review. It really change to have game journalist who have some heart and not been just an other npc.
I really love your work.
Thank you, that means a lot. Glen
Yes! Glenn you are saying all the right things, changeable music, Chinatown wars was always in my DS and you are correct the graphics look wonderful, with the animations really shining. I do hope other developers upgrade from the 8 bit style. Added to the watch list, grand job with this one!
Yeah Chinatown wars was one of my favourite DS games. Man, that system had some good games. Glen
Agree, more indi developers need the upgrade to 16 and 32bit. Shovel knight is a great example of a game that should upgrade
Looks like a great game, and it seemingly holds up to the high expectations. Definite pick-up. Will fill the GTA gap, and will be a lot of fun to play on and off.
As a kid, I always wanted something like GTA III/Vice City but in this sort of format and presentation, these games really made that come true!
Getting this day one! Can't wait, lovely review Glen.
Been waiting two years, and worth the wait. This is one of those gems that you should have on at least two platforms.
Great review lads, really enjoyed it! Seriously considering getting this one.
Cheers mate. This is a great game. Glen
Thanks for the run through Glen. Saw giant bomb go through this and wanted to see your opinions on it also. Never really played much of early gta or China wars - maybe I could get into this.
Seems alright enough with the whole taking over the town aspect. Definitely a sale pick up.
On sale now bruh
Fantastic breakdown Gman. I don't know why I'm still on the fence about it.
At least there’s the beauty of sales every so often for games we feel like that for. Glen
Good pixel art is always welcome. Same for the other artstyles... Like cell-shade, hand drawn, 3d games as long as the execution is top notch. It's always welcome
Completely agree. Glen
Nice one Glen! A real throwback to the GTA ps1 days, I’m in!!
Yeah, it really is! Glen
Not my type of game but a great review as always. Thank you. :)
Gettin' it!
Thanks for reviewing this, I would have passed over it otherwise.
Have played the prequel so can't wait to play it. If it's a reasonable price it will be on my shopping list. Great review, Glen.
£18/$20. There’s a fair amount of content for that price too. Glen
Played this game when it came out. Just picked it back up today and I've been smashing on it for about 5 hours now. Definitely worth 20$. The replayability is astounding. Years later it still holds up as a fun filled shoot em up open world GTA style game. Love it. Recommend 100%
The game is fun alright, but I'd feel cheated If I bought it for 20. 5 bucks is plenty for what you get.
Do you know if it supports hd rumble?
Hell yes this game is gonna kick ass dude. I love the first one
I’m convinced my phone is listening to me now lol. A buddy of mine from work was talking about this today and then boom I see your review as a recommendation 🤣. Great looking game though!
Haha, that’s pretty spooky! Glen
bought it love it. no regrets.Great Review spot on.
Wow! Looks like you really enjoyed this one. I've just picked up Dragons Dogma, so in no rush to buy anything just yet. But as soon as a sale hits, I'll be all over this!
Yeah, sometimes these good games seem to all release at once! Glen
April's e-shop releases destroyed my wallet.. was hoping for a quiet month... Guess not. Seems like a smart purchase. Thanks for the review!
What have you bought so far? April’s been dry af don’t know what you could possibly be talking about. Katana zero was cool.
@@donmcron3334 cuphead, katana zero, mk11, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen just to name a few
@Martin Schmidt have galakz, I rate it, it's a great game!
Sebastian Giry well at least you named the two games that DID impress me. Kitana zero and MK 11. That was it for new games though. Really what else came out that we haven’t seen before?
Thanks for the review. I just bought it on sale for $14.99.
Great review. I'm really looking forward to playing this. It looks really fun.
It’s a lot of fun for sure. Glen
Omg jus one more day, it’s about to go down. I’m so ready for this game..
The prequel was amazing and i am really looking forward to play this one, soo much fun!
I think this ones even better, although I do miss all of the 80s references. Glen
@@SwitchUpYt yeah like the batmobile you could find or the cardbord box company, some serious fan service
Hell yeah it was!! definitely going to get this one. But might get "Saints Row The Third" first.
@@samanthacameron7292 ohh yess, thats also an amazing game and no wit has co op
Great review as always!
Nice review cheers guys
The last game releases for the Wii, Retro City Rampage DX+ and Shakedown: Hawaii, were released on July 9, 2020
Ever since my got!friend passed away I lost all purpose in my life and just being a knowledge by y'all is a blessing no matter how mundane it is thanks so much guys
Your girlfriend was your whole purpose in life?
@@nobodyhome3753 no taking care of her was number one priority then to met I felt like that I lost all purpose being together for over 10 years was a kick to the balls
I love Retro city wane this was announced few years i was so happy it was coming to 3DS and i didn't know it takes to long to come and yes this game on my list for a years xD glad after the review it will stay in my list and i can get it for my switch over 3DS version again thanks for the great review keep it up.!! ;)
Yeah, I had been waiting for years too. So glad it’s now here. Glen
I know it's a few years old but on the eshop for just over £5 atm! It's a lot of game for that. Cheers Glen. Great review.
yea
Thx for such a detailed review !
Having a lot of fun is what video games is all about. Great review of a great game!
Yeah, I’m absolutely loving this one. Glen
Y'all have no idea what even a little convo y'all send me goes along with my depression and anxiety it means so much guys even tho y'all live in another great country

SwitchUp yes much so man thanks again to you and Mark for everything y'all do and espically everyone else
This channel is perfect for quick reviews of games Ive never heard about
This game is gorgeous I also love the depth and insane destructiblw environments, great review I will be getting it.
Yeah, I’ve put about 15 hours into it so far. Glen
I loved Retro City Rampage, and was eagerly awaiting this release. I agree with the points made here. I already beat the game 100%. It was really fun! Definitely worth $20!
Corr blimey, its the rossers, scarper!!
Just bought this game it's excellent and funny thanks switch up!
Great review 🎉
I can’t wait to receive my game (Vita). I’m hoping they ship this week. I’ve been waiting for this game for a long time! This is a game I’ll play immediately and that’s rare for me. Here’s to Hawaii guys! Edit: what an awesome review. Keep up the great work!
Ah nice, it’s getting a physical release on Vita then! Good to see the Vita getting some love. Glen
Me too! It sold out within a few hours, and wankers are already trying to flip it for $60+ on eBay...without even having received their copy yet.
Looks great, thanks for the review
You’re welcome. Glen
Hoping for a physical release of this.
I hope they release a physical version! That is the only thing holding me from buying it. Please do it! Maybe a cool oldschool collectors paper box edition like in the GTA 1 and 2 times? ^^
Oh yes I've been waiting for this one😁👌
Just purchased this game on offer for 9 quid. I can't wait to play it. Looks absolutely brilliant.
That's a bargain mate. Great game.
it is a great game
Great review. You’ve convinced me to buy 😉
And subscribe
Putting this in the wishlist!
The clunky map is my only issue with the game. Looking around at what's for sale can be annoying when the cursor doesn't move very fast or wants to be stuck on a property. It's a really fun game though. I highly recommend it.
Yeah, I totally agree the map is very cumbersome to navigate. I really did love this game though, have just recently 100% it. Glen
Color me impressed! Tomorrow this game is mine! This and Scott Pilgrim!
I enjoyed the first one and had no idea the sequel came out already. 😟
I wish it would be available at midnight on Switch in the U.S. it'll be more like 2 p.m. tomorrow.
On special at the moment on the eshop.
Going to pick it up.
Nice to see some developers doing some 16 bits games beside just 8 bits. (not saying I hate that kind of style) I like these pixel art style.
Yeah, I absolutely love the 16 pixel style. Glen
This game looks so much fun. Is there other rpg, turn-based rpg games with this style? i love FF7/octopath games, and FF12 wasnt really that fun to me. Will certainly be picking this game up though
Is it a sequel to Retro City Rampage or a spiritual successor? Are you playing as the same player character from Retro City? And will there be a physical copy?
It started as the same character but set years later whilst in early development but they decided to base it around a new character in the end. Glen

Step 3: Watch the video.
Step 4: Profit 😁👍
Is there a game similar to this with online capabilities? that's what I'm looking for. I had such a blast playing GTA 2 on a network with my friends back in the day.
Just about to complete the final boss on Sekiro, think I'll pick this up as a holdover whilst I wait for RAGE 2.
YourPalHDee future u: dam rage 2 is trash....
@@jimim6404 hahahahahha yeah, I've phone with Team Sonic Racing instead. What a cool game.
So it's pretty much GTA meets Yhe Godfather but modern day. I loved Retro City Rampage so I have to grab this
Never played retro city rampage, but I’m definitely going to check this out. If I can tear myself away from enter the gungeon and nuclear throne...
I need to try Nuclear Throne. Have heard lots of good things. Glen
I enjoy it. I actually played NT before EtG but I think both are pretty good in different ways. Definitely check it out when you get some free time
I just got NT and it is strangely addictive. One more run x1000
This looks amazing. An upgrade as I prefer 16bit. I may check it out when I see my Switch again
Yeah, I much prefer the 16 bit pixel art too. Where is your switch at the moment? Glen
@@SwitchUpYt it's at home for my son to play while I had to travel for work. My plan was to watch Game of Thrones on the plane back instead of playing Blossom Tales
Ah, I see. Quite the contrast between Game of Thrones and Blossom Tales haha. Glen
@@SwitchUpYt both has castles, knights, swords, kings and undead. Hahaha
That’s a fair point, never thought of it that way! Haha. Glen
I've never heard of this game before, but now I want to buy it haha
Yeah, I’d been waiting for this one for a while. Glen
For some reason Retro City Rampage never really interested me, but Shakedown Hawaii looks like a lot of fun. Can't wait to give this game a try.
It’s a lot of fun. I’ve been hooked on it. Glen
I've been waiting for this for a while now! I am hoping the 3ds version won't take too much longer to be released! I could get it for the switch but I think this would be perfect for the more portable 3ds!
Yeah I’m not sure when the 3ds version is due but it’s good that it’s still coming to that console. Glen
Is the CEO the same Player character from Retro City Rampage??
GTA China town wars was my favorite gta game honestly and this looks amazing. I know I said I'd not purchase any new games for awhile but.... hell with it im rich enough lol. I'll be getting this now, ty for making me spend more cash with another great review guys!
Haha, no worries. I’ve always preferred the top down GTA games and love 16 bit pixel art so this game is a perfect fit for me. Glen
How long did it take you to complete the whole game?
I’m 10 hours in and progression is 46% I’ve finished about 80% of the story by now but there’s the side quests, etc to do. If you just concentrated on the story you’d probably be done in about 5 hours so it depends whether the other bits will hold your interest. Glen
SwitchUp Cheers Glen - one more question if you don’t mind: does the game have HD rumble?
Does this game support hd rumble
Like you said, it's a shame there isn't more of those Cannon fodder missions!
Yeah they were great fun. I would have happily played a whole game of those. Glen
@@SwitchUpYt.... I actually haven't played it yet but, it still looks great.
A future purchase for sure but, I've a lot of stuff to get through.
It has everything this video says. I have it. It is fun and the art is great. But unfortunately it does lack with open world activity. Basically just smash and grab kill etc and that’s fine but it does get too repetitive for my taste.
This looks great
Anyone who calls themselves a gamer has obviously played rcr on some platform. Looks dangerously similar, but the city building twist and graphic update are enough for me to take the plunge. Should be a good time
It’s a better game than RCR but i do miss the 80s references. Glen
I never played RCR. I've been playing games since 1993 though and usually buy about 15 games a year. I'd definitely say I am whay people would consider a gamer.
@@YourPalHDee ok you're a gamer, too. Buy this game; it's incredible
@@sirdzl7105 😘 thank you senpai
I don't usually buy games full price but for this I'm definitely getting it, loved retro city rampage on 3ds and China town wars on ds.
Why am I just hearing about this game?? This one was an instant buy for me . Can’t wait
Great game!
I know you touched on the replayability of outrunning the cops/causing trouble, that was my favorite aspect of GTA games. Me and my friends will sometimes just take turns fooling around in the world. I know this game is more limited than GTA in that aspect, but do you see this game having that same kind of replayability? Or once I've 100%-ed it, will I likely never touch it again?
Hard to say for sure but I played for an hour last night and completed 2 story missions. I walked around looking for challenges, shaking down shop owners and when I couldn’t find any of that, I drove into police cars and tried outrunning them. Will it last forever? Probably not but I can see people losing a decent amount of time to just messing around. Glen
@@SwitchUpYt Thanks for the reply! I feel pretty confident that I won't be disappointed in buying this.
Is this a game with like endless progression?
How much does it cost
Another one I’m going to have to get-wife is going to have to be understanding this month (again.)
Wife could play it too?? Lol XD
Yeah she COULD, but she would rather be playing yoshi 😑
Hehehe
I love its games so muc shake down hawaii and retro city rampage ❤❤❤❤❤
If the switchup gods give it more than 85% its an insta buy for me. Also you guys gave it 17/20 for value at full price and now its on sale now for 50% off on the uk eshop.
Exactly that, well worth it mate!
I real shame that the right stick doesn’t aim. Would have made run n gun more fun. Plus imagine if they made it so you could shoot and drive. Woulda been and insta-buy. Guess I’ll add it to the “Wait for Sale” list.
The right stick does shoot too. I didn’t realise until I released the video. Glen
The amusing thing is a lot of these mechanics they straight up lifted from Vice City stories.
Pixel art wearing thin? I think not! In my opinion, there's not enough!
Be sure to check out our friend SwitchedOn's review after this - ua-cam.com/video/3YhNgEFwyV8/v-deo.html tell him we sent you! Mark
Thanks Marks! Everyone welcome... come this way, one at a time.... steady! No pushing!
The quality games just keep dropping
Absolutely!
Pixel art games are really cool if done right.
Definitely! There are a lot of lazy ones unfortunately which I think has put people off them in recent years but this one is stellar. Glen
