I was to Kansas a few years ago. I saw a couple old combines off on hillsides obviously parked for years. They were no where near as big as this Harris but even if one could be bought the cost of getting things home over a long distance is just so prohibitive those days. I would love to have an old one with the header off the side. Thanks for the video.

A very similar WWII era steel Harris was used on our family farm up until the early 1960s. Ours had a stiff tongue instead of the front wheel - basically, a big steel box beam welded to the underside of the combine frame. The front of the beam connected to the pin in the cat drawbar. I am not sure if this was factory feature, or a farmer mod. The local farmers claimed that you could turn shorter, and that there was less slip on steep side hills with a solid tongue. Jacking up the machine to hook up to the cat was a major deal involving a pile of sections of railroad ties, and a big jack or two under the box beam. We pulled it with an Allis Chalmers HD 9, with a Jimmy 4-71. The cat skinner could not hear much other than the scream of the blower. If the header puncher could not get the cat skinners attention by yelling, he pulled a rope, connected to a gunny sack on the seat of the cat. When the cat skinner felt the tug on the gunny sack that he sat on, he knew it was time to pay attention.
My dad and uncle later modified a similar machine (John Deere 36B) so that the header puncher could run the cat from the combine. This involved 6 throttle cables from the front rail of the combine deck down to the cat. He could operate the steering clutches, main clutch, throttle, and transmission levers. Pulling up to unload on the go, next to the driverless cat, was an odd experience.
    Keep up the great work.

Went to a auction in the Moses Lake Wa. area 35 or so years ago that had a John Deere 36B modified just like the one you describe to run the cat from the combine.Wish would have bought it,but moving it over a 100 miles would have been a problem.
