4:02 That is such a silly thing to say...as if keeping a home and raising children are easy. There is no such thing as being overqualified to do those tasks 🤦
@@valkhorn , yes I understand that. But the way he worded it, saying she was "extremely qualified", is really an ignorant way of expressing how little he knows about keeping a home and raising kids. Having other talents does not equate to being "overqualified" to being a mother at home.
I had to look. This is a scream. A tragic scream. Or The Emperor's New Clothes. These three "women"...well, perhaps this stuff is what they can scream through now. Sheeeeesh!
@@smurf902 Ha! You are wonderful and made me laugh. Thank you. I have to admit that all I did was bring this up to write how ridiculous the whole thing is- as well as those singers. I couldn't watch this video! The Met has truly made me feel for years now that I am in a really bad production (life) of The Emperor's New Clothes. For these dreadful singers ( Fleming was so great for awhile, What's Her Face I can sing Broadway and opera! and Di Donato who can't sing on pitch and uses more veins than I have ever seen!!) to pretend they are doing a great piece of art makes me wretch. @@josephcollins6033 it's true. I went to see a friend in Agrippina in early 2020 and I solidified to myself I missed NOTHING by having no career that led to the Met. It was atrocious beyond belief.
@@smurf902 You do realize this is edited? There's an obvious cut between Kelli's phrase and DiDonato's. Apparently they didn't have enough time to include more. If you wanna be mad, be mad at the editing team.
@@smurf902 Yes, buddy. It is true. Sorry you had that horrible experience. I believe it is over for the Met, OR it is over for me and what was opera; perhaps younger people like this junk. Oh I am REALLY looking forward to this. I can't wait to hear and see it. I just hope it gets streamed because I won't be traveling any time soon :(
It's part of the Live in HD lineup so you can watch it in theatres!
It's streaming live in movie theatres on Saturday afternoon, December 10, and then a rebroadcast on Wednesday evening the 14th.
Thank you!
Fleming sounds like she’s in glorious voice
Man, the whole thing seems too good to be real!
It was really fantastic: music, set, staging ,singing……. Bravi!
Yes !!!!!!!!!
I love how Joyce just came as is for the role. No makeup or wig or costume.

I think the point is that she was capable of being a lot more than just a housekeeper.

It was definitely easier if one has money and white, especially during that time period.

Notice how Joyce can't let Kelly get even 2 sentences out before she POUNCES and has to jump in. Like stop. With her no lip self

More woke nonsense
What is woke about it?
Yeah, woke from 1996 which the book is from, lol. Or maybe “woke” from Virginia Woolfs time? But you don’t know her work of course ;)
Read the book. See the film. Avoid the interminable opera. Yannick Nézet-Séguin is gorgeous.
Kevin Puts is an outstanding composer run for it !

Read the book years ago. Saw the movie. Not terrific. Not well cast . Why say the opera is interminable before its opened?
