    A very special tree Adam, i look forward to watching you grow it, you have such a great style and obviously passionate about bonsai. The way you explain things as you go will help sooo many people learn the art. Top job Adam🤙

      This is one of my favourite trees (even though it doesn't look very good at the moment) I may air layer a section off the top in the future!

    Hi, i have been raising a lot of apple trees from seed. They are already a year old. I live in the tropics. Recently, I have found out that the roots are already root bound. When can I safely prune the roots? Can i prune the roots safely if the weather is hot, i mean its always hot in the tropics and we only have two seasons, the dry and wet seasons. Also, should i prune the top portion the same time when I prune the roots? Also, should I place them under the shade after pruning the roots and how long should i place them there? Hope you could give me some advice on what to do. Thank you very much in advance.

    Why cut off the budds at the bottom, dont you want sacrafices or branches to thicken/ add taper ?

    • @notionbonsai
      @notionbonsai  2 роки тому

      Good point! That is one option and a good way to thicken trees at the base.
      I have found that sacrificial branches tend to work faster when a tree is potted into the ground. In such a small pot like this would take a very long time so it isn't worth keeping them right now.
      Plenty will grow back! Apples grow suckers all throughout summer.
      My plan with this tree is to air layer the top off it and work with the smaller material that way 😀

    Crazy apple man!! You know about cutting out the “boring work” you can always time laps it as well I’ve seen guys do that, and I love that you put this in a basket it definitely needed it!! Never underestimate the power of the basket!!

    • @notionbonsai
      @notionbonsai  Рік тому +1

      I'll definitely be timelapsing more in future videos! The Basket really gives the tree a lot of roots in a short space of time!

    when it was growing in granny`s yard for the last 50yrs, i doubt she planted it in acadama, why would you feel it necessary to change the soil type now?

    • @notionbonsai
      @notionbonsai  Рік тому +1

      Hey! When it comes to Bonsai or any potted plants, the right soil type is crucial for the plant's health and growth. The soil that the plant was growing in before may have been good enough, but it's possible that the nutrients have been depleted over time. Repotting the tree in a mix of pumice, akadama, and lava rock provides a well-draining soil that allows for better oxygen flow to the roots and the absorption of nutrients. This will help ensure that the apple tree continues to thrive and grow well in its new environment. Thank you for watching the video, and I hope this explanation clarifies why it's necessary to change the soil type when repotting bonsai or potted plants. 😄
