Fill it all the way. Axolotl are fully aquatic they do not go on land at all. 30G is a limit of 2 go to 50 if u add a 3rd and add at least 1 hide per axy. PVC pipe works great they are inexpensive and smooth so they wont harm them. Make sure there are no sharp edges on that decorative peice as they are very delicate. Also they are cold water only so either get a chiller or make sure the room is AC to 65f max
Don't get black light as that hurts their eyes. Definitely should keep a close eye on them, males go with males and females with females to avoid breeding especially at a young age. You can house more than one axolotl of the same gender but when you add another axolotl you should be adding 10 galalons to the new tank. You need to make sure to cycle your tank being adding them and add prime etc. Low flow filter is best like a sponge filter, if it tends to get warm in that room youll wanna get a chiller cause their tank needs to be kept at 63-65. But definitely add more caves, nothing sharp or paint is known to come off

Ideally a tank that size should only have one axolotl. You need multiple places for them to hide and minimum light on them. Also axolotls should not be held out of the water, it will stress them and can damage the slime on their coat. Only chemical that should be added to you tank is a water primer, the brand Seachem Prime is recommended in axolotl groups. Make sure your sand is fine and don't have large stones, as this can cause an impaction and kill you axolotl. Sorry if that was a bit of a lecture. Keeping being you and learning everyday.

Also, usually it’s not ideal to keep them together because they breed like crazy (they can’t be sexed for a while) and do take chunks from each other. It’s possible to keep together but not ideal. 30 gals per axolotl. Also, their water temp must stay cool. Oh! They need a ton of filtration because of how sensitive they are and if they stomp on their waste it will increase the ammonia in their tank and you don’t want ammonia burns. Also do not use any product with aloe in it as that burns their skin as well.
Chris, axolotls need plants and natural things like driftwood in the tank. Your decorations are cute but could damage their skin and gills. The sand looks nice but again could cause skin problems. You are so thoughtful with your animals so I thought you might like to know.

Definitely get multiple structure. I noticed the albino has a tendency to float which is a type of birth defect but it can live normal with no issues as long as it is still eating. Another great protein source for them can be earthworms. Keep an eye on them and get them their structure. How about for names "ebony and ivory"?
I have my 5 axolotl in a 120gallon tank, I also use PVC pipe for their hiding spots just make sure if you have to cut it to get rid of the sharp edges cause they are very delicate animals, they are also permanent water dwellers so they don't need a place on land, and the water parameters have to be perfect for them
Chris one way to avoid having chunky sand balls in your tank is put the water in first then pour the sand in nice and slow because either way you do it your still gonna have to lit the sand settle down

Hey! I would recomend atleast 1 hiding spot for each individ you have in the tank. also i would not recomend more than 2 for that tank size. Axolotl's are awesome and can be quite interactive. Best wishes from Sweden!

And they don’t “come out to rest” they are 100% aquatic so your decoration doesn’t need to be above the water line. Not to mention those plastic plants and that dec could hurt their delicate skin.

2 Axolotls equal a 60 gallon tank minimum, I breed them, and the 30 gallon you are setting up 1 Axolotl. They also have to be roughly the same size to live together or else the bigger one could eat the smaller one. Edit: the tank you have is just fine for that size of Axolotls, I commented to soon. He needs to put a lot more water in the tank. Also it needs a lid. I heard about a youtuber’s Axolotl jumping out of the tank and it suffocated and died. 😭
Have messed around with GFP at college, it does mean that the axolotl was genetically modified to have that within them. It's the same thing with the glow fish. Its originally purpose was to act as a marker for genetics and early development.
GFP is a proteïn found in a certain kind of jellyfish, they extract a gene that produces it and places this gene into other creatures like in this case the axolotl. We had a study about this on our school and it is actually kinda cool and done on quite some creatures😅
