I've owned my bus for 13 years. It was gifted to me back then. It was originally registered commercial in NH. Since moving to CA, I registered it here commercial also. I now want to register it as an RV before heading back out on the road, but CA makes it more difficult than it needs to be. (as with everything else) I have family in VT, so it's possible the bus may end up being stored there anyway. don't imagine I need to fill out the Bill of Sale and Odometer disclosure statement, seeing how the mileage is listed on the Registration Application? Just trying to cover all the bases before mailing.
Yes Vermont will still charge their sales tax unfortunately. Depending on what you paid for the bus you can use that invoice to only pay taxes on what you paid for it because that's the value of the bus. Instead of them running the NADA value of it which might be higher.
Hi, It says online to submit a Vermont Dealer Appraisal Form if the vehicle value is less than book value... do you know if this is actually required? I've not heard it mentioned before as necessary but its on the vermont dmv site... thank you!
So I have not had to deal with this myself. The work around for me when I registered our school bus was that I had am Invoice from the auction website that shows what I paid. Which was $1800 so they went off that. I think it really comes down to the vehicle that you're registering. If you can some how get an invoice that states that you paid X amount versus what it's actually worth then that would help out. I think that's just as good as a dealer appraisal. Otherwise they go off the NADA value. In some case there is no value because of the type of vehicle and or trailer your registering then they might just use whatever you have on your bill of sale. In that case more power to you for putting less. This last week I registered out 2007 Sprinter and the value was around $12000 which would've been a lot to pay on taxes, but what helped me was that I had the plate from my bus from when we registered it there and they ask for the value of what that sold for. When we told her it was over $30k she didn't believe us until I should her photos. At that point I only paid $145 for transferring and renewing and title for the sprinter.
@@danielle3760 that should be. The great part about the Vermont DMV is that they are human. Anytime I've had to deal with them. They have been really nice. Depending on where you're at. You can book an appointment and go in in person and have the transaction done within 20mins. We're in CT so it make sit easy. It was about a 3hr drive to the one with the soonest appointment. If anything is off with the paperwork when you send it in they would reach out over the phone if it's something they need to

I know it's been a few years since the video but I'm doing this too. I have a question though. What do you do with the title? Do I send VT the title or keep it?
Another person started they sent a copy and VT sent them a letter requesting the title. They then sent it to them, and the dmv processed they paperwork. The tags came first, the title came later.
@@Mendyimports perfect, I relistened and gathered that they are sending the plate that says Tiny, -one more question! who did you insure with before registering? How did you classify it?
@@Taste.ofvegan I'm currently under my insurance which is allstate. When you fill out the paperwork for the DMV you just reclassified as an RV or motorhome. You don't have to tell insurance that's it's a school bus. Just let them know that's it's an RV or motor home and they'll have to just make a special coverage. It all depends on what you out on full coverage or just liability. Just talk to an agent and tell them what you're trying to do. They'll most likely work with you.

Peter Hernandez since it's registered in Vermont with the address where in you can get insurance for it in your state. For example I registered in Vermont, but it had my CT address just Vermont plates. Your state won't like it, but just try to not get pulled over.
I know it's still fine to do. Just be mindful when you go to transfer it to another state make sure your state does not request a title from Vermont. Vermont does not send a title unless you request one which I have not done. If you have a title to the bus make sure you hang on to it.
@@Mendyimports could I just get a title from Vermont? Or keep the original from where I bought it in AZ. After I bought it I Drove into to CA. Stored it off the street. But now need to drive it. And that will cost $800. So I save $1200. Any thoughts on this? Also my bill of sale says body type bs. Which won’t match the Vermont application of motor home code 19.
@@createlovehappy so your best bet would be to register it in Vermont and just keep it registered in Vermont. We had our skoolie since 2017 registered in Vermont and have had no issues. It still does work in 2020 and as long as you're registering it in the states yes it will work. You might need a US license but I'm not really sure on that. Best part of doing this if it doesn't work they'll send you a letter telling you why it doesn't work.
The forms you need ARE
VD-119 Registration
VD-017 Vanity Plate
VT-005 Odometer Disclosure

Ours is a 1992 so I'm not 100% sure
