I DON'T HATE Amsterdam, but this are things I hate about the city...no place is perfect. To see why I LOVE Amsterdam, (there were more points than my hate video) watch the next video I created: ua-cam.com/video/3QBUS0AU45M/v-deo.html
@@You-mr3lo Thank you foe the recommendations! We've been to a few of those, but will go back to do videos. We also have a full playlist of other towns in the Netherlands. I made this one to give a different perspective as someone from the USA living in Amsterdam.
Probably, the perception of the weather depends on the country of your origin. We are Russian and we do really enjoy the climate of the Netherlands. We love the fresh air and humidity, today is sunshine and we arrived in February, there was a whole week of sunshine. But it is all very personal, of course.
Absolutely! And funny enough, the same happened to me. Sean moved first and had horrible weather for 2.5 weeks. Then I came and it was over a month of crazy great weather! I'm looking forward to the forecast tomorrow when I'll film why I LOVE Amsterdam ;) And of course, it will be personal to how you like the weather. I can only give my life experiences :) But I'm so glad you are enjoying it! Have a GREAT week!
@@aWanderlustForLife truth is most of us hate it here, but just don't like it when "foreigners" say they do. We all hate the weather etc haha but we all suddenly love it here when someone complains about it haha😝 don't take it personal. It's also a Dutch thing ;p
I agree, this is the true friendliness of people in this country. If you don't put us on a pedestal and praise us 24/7, go back to your country! Typical Dutch...
You can go to the gov. website and ask them for to do something about the public toilets as it is a health concern and can cause kidney and bladder illness if can not go when it needs.
I remember the weather in Amsterdam when I went. It was forecasted to be partly cloudy for the 24 hours I was there, and light rain fell on me during lunch, lol! Despite a place being really awesome, nothing is ever perfect. Great video!
So true. Nothing is perfect! Funny story: when Sean moved here before me, it rained for the whole 2.5 weeks. He was so frustrated, then I got here and we had the best weather ever for over a month...in September/October 🤣
Im dutch and live in haarlem. I feel like youre way too kind towards amsterdam. What i dont understand is that you didnt include the horrible amount of tourists that visit amsterdam. As a dutchie i sometimes feel like im visting a different country. Expats im totally fine with but the crazy amount of tourists needs to be addressed...
I guess I tend to avoid the overly busy areas, or I go at off times? Maybe I just got used to it when I lived in the center as it just being part of life. 😂 But the drunk and high tourists are in a group of their own, and those I get frustrated with!
In my opinion expats aren't the best either. Some are fine, but some are just rich expats buying the expensive houses in Amsterdam making it unaffordable for the locals and refusing to learn dutch, you can barely even order anything in Dutch when your in Amsterdam due to the expats.
I just spent a week in Amsterdam about a 1/4 block from Vondal park. It rained while both cloudy and sunny, that was special, but on the electric bike, it was magical. Cold, windy down your neck, magical.
Housing in Amsterdam or in holland generally is a tragedy.... Half of society sharing toilet, doush n kitchen.... You work hard n hard but you wont be able to pay a respectfull place for yourdelf to live in... But if you are a refugee i advice you to come to holland.. You will get a house wich dutch people dream about hhhh... Tnx
I made this video because most of my videos talk about what I love about the city. I wanted to balance out the sunshine and rainbows. Also, the point was that there isn't much to complain about so I complained about silly things. Feel free to watch my other videos to see more of the Amsterdam I love.
You just came across now, but in case you ever see this, MOST WISE WORDS I`ve heard in a long time. You are so right ! I lived there myself in 1999. For about a year, I had a 5 day train ticket from Hirtshals in Northern Denmark but ended up staying there 11 months ! Mission impossible kind of thing, trying to locate a person, a friend I met in Norway long time ago. From Amsterdam. Anyway, not the reason why I ended up staying . And this happens to me a lot, before I knew it I came in touch with some great people, offered me a place to stay and there I was. Its like you say, Amsterdam is so much more.
I lived 3 years in Amsterdam (Meer en Vaart). As I can remember I visited the city center maybe 6/7 times in total. Its just sooo overcrowded with tourists and so expensive in comparison to areas outside the center. Rent prices are insane throughout the whole country atm, but in the big cities especially. The weather; honestly I feel like people need to stop complaning about this. Of course it gonna be rainy and cold. We have sea climate..A little research before you come can prepare you for this.
really? i guess you may have changed your mind about the weather in the last 4 months...and, from here on out, it's just going to get warmer and warmer, i'm guessing...
@@TheDeastman13 my God mate.. 😂 these whole 'hahahahaha ur funny' comments when u don't have anything substantial to respond with were done a long time ago. I see u are really trying to make ur 'its getting warmer' message out there. Copy pasting it around on youtube 😂 well mate; that's how the summer works hm? In the Netherlands it's been like this forever. It's 30+ degrees c for 2/3 days in a row; followed up by some storm/rain and a huge dip in degrees. Unpredictable, lots and lots of rain and cold seaclimate. Maybe search up what 'sea climate' means.
another point of view - my wife and i have had two x 3 month stints living in Amsterdam (we swapped our house in Sydney twice) and we found it a superb place for a city (and I'm generally not a great fan of cities). Maybe we loved it because we weren't working and could sleep in on cold mornings, and plan our days with no time constraints. Cycling, museums, Concertgebouw several times, Amsterdam bos, generally exploring by foot and bike. Not to mention the Dutch people's grasp of English language makes it a breeze to strike up conversation over a beer on a canal
Thanks for the comment. Yeah, visiting is very different than living in a city but I made this because I'm always talking about how much I love it and here are a lot of those reasons: ua-cam.com/video/3QBUS0AU45M/v-deo.html 🙃
Jeez, this comment section.... She didn't even say anything that bad. I think people in this country are very defensive. If you don't praise The Netherlands 24/7 the Dutch will come for you... "If you don't like Stammpot, go back top your country!" To be honest, I was expecting a bit more. What are the REAL struggles that expats have to go through in The Netherlands, but I understand that you don't want too much hate in the comments so you kept it as light as you could.
I appreciate this...and I don't hate stampot...I wouldn't choose it over pizza but that's just me 😂 Honestly, there not much I hate except for the struggle in finding housing but that's in a lot of places. I know other expats have issues I don't mention but either I haven't encountered them or I blocked out the trauma 😋
As dutch living for many years in Switzerland, I think that Expats have always a struggle in a foreign country. My 2cents are that in an international city these are less big in terms of finding contacts but bigger in terms of finding a place to live, since al international cities are expensive. And the housemarket is not only terrible in the Netherlands but in almost all countries in Europe, the US or Australia. I really asume that living as an expat in the Netherlands is not that difficult, at least not more then in Frankfurt, Paris or Stockholm. Dutch are generally quit open and talkative and interested in other cultures and yes they are direct, but not more direct then in Berlin or Tel Aviv. If you coming from a very different culture like India or China then surely a western country can be more challenging.
@@ronnie9187 The Dutch are generally quite "open and talkative and interested"?? If you think people in the NL are "open", you haven't travelled much... no offence! 😅
The housing issue is a national issue in the Netherlands and not only in Amsterdam. Crime is also a national issue in the Netherlands and as a whole in Western Europe. Crime has increased dramatically since the 1980's. Mainly due to the influx of foreigners in the Netherlands. Individuals from the eastern Europe, Suriname, and north Africa are mainly the culprits..
Hey i came across your channel from Sorella Amore's skillshare course. I am also an expat, i live in Utrecht :) Good luck in your youtube journey :) You're doing so well. Also i loved the music in this :).
This is not true. I pay 400 euros (incl. utilities) for renting my 2 bedroom apartment in the city center of Budapest. The same standard of housing would cost me 2000 euros in Amsterdam. It is insanity.
I agree as a man i walked 40 minutes to find a bathroom. That bathroom near where you recorded this video actually in the metro station and I had to pay no less . I loved the weather , I found the cost of dining out very pricey, but I feel in love with Amsterdam and small city called Spijkenisse which I loved as well. I think of peoples automatic response to saying you are going to Amsterdam and if you will engage in drugs that’s more on them than you …
yes it is correct the toilet facilities for women are indeed deplorable compared to all public men toilets. Housing is and was always a problem in the city and finding an affordable (bigger ) house completely. My family has left the city, it became too busy and yes unfortunately also due to too much tourism. We still visit Amsterdam regularly but now we prefer living in the countryside and in a half hour drive we are right in the center of Amsterdam.
Good points but most of the things are because its a old city and limited in what people want to have changed in that city because the nostalgia is what draws in people. Most of your complaints are solved just outside the city and with public transport being good and also paid by employers (because its also tax deductible) that would be a better living experience, cheaper as well.
@@halfdeadwizard1009 why are you so triggered? Did it hit your superiority complex? Many ppl have bad experiences with renters in this city, it's a known fact
I dont care what you have to say in the video, even if it is constrictive criticism. You put "Why i hate amsterdam" in the thumbnail. Thats just clickbait if you don't actually hate it.
her first point was 'the weather'...if only she'd waited a few(this is 2022) years...unfortunately, though i love this warmest spring/summer since i move here, over 20 yrs ago, i also feel/think that it's a harbinger of more extreme/dangerous weather that this planet is headed towards...the woman who made this is young. i am not...and i feel very, very sorry for those who are, given what i see as their future...which i will NOT go into here. or anywhere else, to be honest...people will find out for themselves all too soon...
You know, the weather is pretty mild, like it never get super hot or cold for long. It's mostly kinda meh but I find that actually pretty comfortable for everyday life. I mean, weather in Rome or Madrid might seem nice at first but when it's like almost 40 Celsius for like a month and you are not a tourist but actually have to work it gets old really fast. Because of the meh weather the city also smells relatively fresh most of the time. Like smog is not a thing, you hardly notice petrol fumes or anything so the downsides have their upsides too.
@@aWanderlustForLife Sure, The Netherlands is absolutely not a perfect fairytale place obviously and it's very good to point that out (and courageous I might add, much easier to just say what everyone wants to hear). A big downside is that when you eventually get a very good job with a high salary, income tax can get crazy high. For everything you earn above 68k a year, you pay almost 50%. That's the tradeoff for all the nice things we enjoy.
There are many cities in the world with lousy weather. Amsterdam is one of the best cities in the world to live. Of course you are allowed to have your opinion, but compared to Paris, London, New York, Tokyo asf life is not so expensive at all. Just real estate, everything else average to normal.
Please watch my video on why I love living in Amsterdam. This video was to balance the constant "I love Amsterdam" opinion I always give. And I was comparing the city to where I'm from. Not other major world cities with populations in the millions (when we're under 1 million)
Shortage of places to live in is an enormous issue here. As she says. Air bnb cash grab has taken over the availability for those who DO want to live in Amsterdam.
@@kimberlysoto6864 I was born in Amsterdam but now live in the States but shortage of housing has always been a problem and has never changed since the 50's or before...
Isn’t it sad how people only pay attention too Amsterdam Like Amsterdam isn’t the only city in the Netherlands lmao You’ve got Rotterdam, Utrecht, Delft, Gouda and many more. My personal advice to like people who visit or plan on living in the Netherlands is don’t focus on Amsterdam only. Take a good look around the Netherlands and see which city suits you best.
I have lots of videos of other places in the Netherlands...a whole playlist! Maybe you'd like those more ☺️ And we have some trips planned this summer to showcase other cities as well.
mr adventurer I like your videos. Bicycle theft: it is recommended to buy a cheap 100-200 euro bike if you want to leave them out in the open. One lock is definitely not enough. Also, there are places where you can leave your bike with security. If you park expensive bikes on the street overnight that is waiting for trouble. Keep it in your house or garage or otherwise don't buy an expensive bike. PS I never heard someone dropping their bike in the canal. More likely it is drunk people throwing a bike in the canal.
Neither Sean or I have had ours stolen in the 3 years we had ours parked outside...but I always felt a bit lucky 😂 and I do know people whose bike fell in the canal! Big wind and bad parking, I guess.
@@aWanderlustForLife There's over a million bikes in Amsterdam. If 100 thousand are stolen every year, on average, a bike would get stolen once every 10 years. And most of those are badly locked or parked at obscure places. Yes, bike theft is a problem, but don't make it bigger than it is, even though everybody will get their bike stolen once in their life or somehting, it's not a 'daily problem', other than having to lock your bike.
Funny enough. Amsterdam now Is relocating the red light area. And doesn't really do the weed as much and might even stop it to outsiders. Meanwhile. BALTIMORE Maryland today USA. Announced no more arrests for Drugs or Prostitution.. And the weed is legal 3verywhere in the Usa now for the most part. It's actually flipped 180° in less than 5 years
You heard I left? Where did you hear this? I haven't left and don't plan to. If this is my only video you've seen, I encourage you to watch the others around Amsterdam. I made this more as satire because I'm always talking about how much I love it. And yes, generally speaking, I find Amsterdam quite clean.
Amsterdam gets pretty much the rainy weather of England across the pond. As for my experience in 2015 I got a 2year resident permit but left after 6 months due to no contract work for self-employed (Software Dev), Ducth subtle racism (I noticed on Train Rotterdam to Amsterdam white Dutch people will not seat on train next to non-white or if non-white seat next to one they quickly get up) , and also discrimination in hiring (companies often post they only need native-English-speakers for telemarketer jobs. Meaning no Nigerians, French, Norwegian, Swedes, Dominicans , African-nations etc ) . In all it was a beautiful place but the people & experience not so much .
That's a great point about the weather! My friend and I used to walk about that a lot. We would get what they had, just a day later. Regarding the jobs, I would always see jobs for other languages, and not English for support positions, bot telemarketing. But the job market is pretty hard for everyone. I am sorry you encountered racism. It's something I've been disappointed to discover in such a seemingly open-minded country.
I tend to visit in mid-july to fist week in August. I found that that is about best weather....hardly any rain....I've been doing this for 30years....I remember one summer where it just rained. I rented the bikes for 2weeks and used it one day.....Everyone going flying back on the plane had a cold.,LOL.
Do you want change with me? If you want talk with me! AMSTERDAM is my dream, 8 years of a dream, since 2014! If you don't like, don't live there. It's simple!
Most cafes ( of which there are many) will allow you to drop in and use their toilets. They will probably charge 50 cents or one euro. There are free toilets in big stores such as the Bijenkorf. Fast food outlets such as BK and McDonalds also have pay toilets.
This issue has been most noticeable when those places are not open. Like in the past few months. But the frustration is that men get toilets but women don't.
@@aWanderlustForLife You have a point there, so why don't feminists campaign for more toilets for women instead of moaning about pronouns etc? I would support any such measures.
@@aWanderlustForLife just start pissing outside like men have done for decades at some point the government wil give in and make them. They didnt make them to please males. They made them to stimulate better behaviour.
@@aWanderlustForLife do u really see it working practically tho? Those toilets are disgusting. Like men dont enjoy standing in there, do u think this concept can work for a sitting toilet? Born and raised here. It's all true. The weather sucks. To be fair 2014 Amsterdam isnt anything like pre-smart phone era Amsterdam. At least 95% of the whores potheads and junkies have been removed effectively. There used to be heroïne needles on the ground everywhere crackheads smoking in the subway. Way more graffiti. Drunken junkies selling stolen bikes. The red light district was FULL of sex action. And drugsdealers wispering 'xtc? Coke?' just being outside was an adventure. Tbh it's a bit boring now
When I lived there I loved pretty much everything about the city. The weather it's bad yes (especially the wind/rain combo) but what push me to move somewhere else in Europe was the housing situation. Housing is insane in the Ranstad region but specially in Amsterdam and not only but mostly expats are caught in the middle of it since most dutch are property owners or have a mortgage. The housing crisis is really a tragedy for many people living there and it's just sad for a country that does many things right in terms of social policy. At a certain point I decided I had enough and didn't want to be part of that disgusting game so I left.
@@demi3115 haha yeah sure that's the situation of most expats in NL... the expats you are referring to are people that have been living there many years or moved to NL with a good paying job already. Most expats are struggling to pay crazy rent prices for tiny apartments, because it's really difficult to get a long-term contract job and be able to access a mortgage or better rental agreements. The problem here is the lack of housing because most of society and goberment turns a blind eye on the issue. Most housing been built is for luxury apartments for the already well off, meanwhile affordable housing barely gets built.
@@uncleirohofthefirenation5987 oh right 'cause on the other hand you clearly do. You didn't give an argument to your response so I will just ingore it, cheers!
Amsterdam ain't got nuthin' on Montreal, bad weather-wise! lol When I went in 2018, the Northeast Atlantic seaboard had been pummeled by Nor'easters for 4 consecutive weeks... An ice storm hit Montreal 2 days before I was supposed to leave. I arrive in Amsterdam, the whole city is in bloom, full, green leaves are out (the buds hadn't even come out in Montreal when I left), Spring started. There were a few rainy days, Kingsday itself was cold-ish and there were a few droplets in the morning but the rest of the day was super nice. I must have been blessed, because I now know that it is very rainy there, but I'd definitely take that over the extreme cold in the Winter, and the extreme humid heat of the Summer in Montreal!!
I understand the weather, but how can you hate Amsterdam because people think it only smokes? you say it, it's more than that. It is true that they steal bicycles, but it is not to hate it, it is enough to take good care of your bicycle, the same for rentals and heels, that is, they are the things you do not like in the city, that's fine. But hating takes more than that, in my first place I wouldn't live in a place that I hate.
I think you misunderstood the point of the video, it's not all about things I hate about the city but things I hate about living here. Not everything is the city's fault, I agree. But I'm guessing you're new to my channel because I made this because I'm always going on about how much I love it, that I wanted to balance the scales and make a video about what I don't love.
The weather is great over here! 😂 The rest of your arguments... True! 😁 (Btw, I was expecting you to mention the lack of service (compared to the US for example) in bars, restaurants, etc, which can also be true)
Some of the things you hate about AMS also applies to other cities nearby. Like bad weather. it's not exclusive to AMS. But the weather is shitty in general in that part of Europe.
Visiting in a few weeks so excited, however I do agree with you about the reputation. Every person I have told I’m visiting Amsterdam has brought up weed in the conversation. I personally find it an insulting question to ask someone if they do smoke or plan on visiting a coffeeshop. Especially if you have a professional relationship with them, I only find this an acceptable question to ask in a nightclub. In everyday conversation it’s down right rude and offensive. I have now stopped talking to people about my upcoming trip, which is a real shame.

Most of what you listed can be said of lots of popular cities ie: lack of public toilets, reliable contractors, affordable long term housing (air bnb is ruining rental markets everywhere, not just A'dam). There is no bad weather, only bad clothing. Buy some gloves and suck it up like the locals. I lived there for a couple of years back in the eighties. I had a cheap bike with a big chain and never had an issue. As far as the reputation goes, it is gradually getting better as the city cleans up and becomes more family friendly. Why should you care anyway? You know that you live in one of the coolest cities on the planet. Myself, I would lean into it: 'yes, that it's exactly why I live here, because I love drugs and hookers and I can't wait until my current high wears off so I can get high again and go to the red light for dildo sex.' Anyway, I know you have more reasons to love Amsterdam, so that's cool. I just don't think most of your hates are unique to it. Tot ziens!

Your comment or complaint on the sidewalks ramping off has to do with your comment on the Rain. In order for the heavy rainfall not to flood the streets and reach the sewers quick and efficiënt. So i bet you didnt know that. Somethings might be spiteful or even hated by one person. Whilst the same thing offers a solution to another. That being said. Ingenuity and controlling lots of water has been our country's specialty since like.. ever. Who pumped up dubai and still does, u think? Yeah..
OK Jessica you got me going.... Here is MY rant ;-) (It's all in good spirit.. we are friends! ) But yeah... I have to react: 1) The weather: This is not an Amsterdam exclusive.. If you like to live in this corner of the world - this is the weather.. it also makes the Netherlands green and lush. If you like to have sun: There are deserts all around the world ;-) BTW: Let's be honest : there also plenty and I mean plenty of good weather moments that our American Expat friends complain about the lack of airconditioning in the Netherlands! :-p 2) Public toilets: There are soooooo many bars and cafe's and other places with an easy accessable toilet. 3) Bikes need to be locked : really. I don't leave my car also not open nor my house. 4) All Expat people have this urge to live in Amsterdam: Heyyyy sure that has an influence on prices... And there are a ton of other pitoresque places to live with better prices: Utrecht, Leiden, Groningen, Den Bosch, Haarlem, Den Haag (but not so much because of governemental international workers) etc. etc. etc. 5) cobblestones vs high heels: OK the pin needle heels are NOT a thing in the Netherlands: if you like to live in an authentic place it has a cost.. cobblestones !! 6) Every one likes to have an university degree and because it does not take a life loan to study in NL many people do... so the handicraft jobs where real skills are required are very sought after.. these people have tons of work! So they get sloppy... So if you want to move to Amsterdam and wonder what to do? Be a handyman... there is a real living in that! If you are a professional that really knows how to fix things..! Keep the videos coming! But maybe show some other parts of Holland? Or even in the Netherlands.. huh??? Is there a difference... yes there is :)

It is outrageous like how disgustingly rich is this country, to not be possible to make proper toilets around the city. The idea that while out & about, one might need to regale themselves of a visit to "la toilette" and hence seek out a food & beverage establishment and vis-a-vis..., patronage; avail themselves of both temporal & corporal relief, is a bonafide norm.
Yes, of course. The point I made was that they have accounted for men for outdoor and accessible toilets, but not women. They've even created underground urinals that pop up at night...something that took quite a bit of effort and money. Also, the tongue and cheek of this was that there's not a lot that I can hate, so I chose the things that actually bother me.

When in The Netherlands avoid Amsterdam at all costs. It is probably the most expensive and worst city. Any other city like Utrecht, The Hague or Rotterdam would be much better.
I feel like you may have taken this a little too literally. I love the city and while Utrecht and the other cities you mentioned are great, Amsterdam does have a lot to offer if you know where to look (and I try to make videos on those spots 😉)
In Amsterdam around 9000 bikes are stolen every year. The number of 50.000-80.000 you presented is the amount of bikes stolen every year in THE ENTIRE COUNTRY. My advice is to do your research a bit better before you present these kind of bizarre numbers.
I got the number from here: www.dutchamsterdam.nl/857-stolen-bikes-in-amsterdam#note-857-1 And another article says that in "2019, 466,560 people in the Netherlands" were victims of bike theft. www.iamexpat.nl/expat-info/dutch-expat-news/bike-theft-netherlands-has-dropped-losses-remain-high After diving a bit more into it, I see the 8000 number which is a bit confusing since I've always heard such a large number since I moved here.
@@aWanderlustForLife Yeah it is confusing and there is a lot of misinformation. These bizarre numbers of up to 80.00 bikes stolen in Amsterdam are popping up in a lot of videos, blogs and vlogs about Amsterdam. These are mostly written or made by foreigners that do not bother to research and just copy what someone else has said. I guess they like the drama in dropping huge number like that. But if you think about it: 80.000 bikes stolen in a small city like Amsterdam is just a crazy amount that would be impossible to say the least. I have lived in Amsterdam for 25 years and have had only 1 bike stolen... In the first article you linked it is mentioned that the Amsterdam police and the Cyclists' Union (De Fietsersbond) estemate a number of 80.000. But this number is for The Netherlands, not for Amsterdam. De fietsersbond is a national institution. But I agree that it is not made clear at at all when you read the article. So I can understand completely how you could make the mistake of thinking it applies only to Amsterdam. Even though that would mean that every year one tenth of all bikes in Amsterdam get stolen. And that really doesn't make any sense at all. That would basically mean armageddon on the streets of Amsterdam. I am happy you now know that reality is actually not so bad as the many dramatised stories with false facts make you want to believe.
I guess my confusion is if the other number I mentioned of 466,000 is for the whole of the Netherlands, the the 50,000-80,000 in Amsterdam makes sense.
Fun fact: mine was almost stolen. We assumed they were interrupted. My chain lock was cut through 😳 Now we've had indoor storage so we don't worry anymore. But I'd say 10% of my friends have had a bike stolen. Now, I want to learn more! If you have sources, can you share so I can dive into more?
@@aWanderlustForLife 460k out of 17 million, that's about 3%. 1 bike stolen per 30 people, or every dutch person gets their bike stolen once every 30 years. Sounds about right. For Amsterdam, let's assume a million people, that would be 30k stolen bikes. Since bike theft is higher in larger cities, i don't think you're that far off.
You should live in Africa, very poor always hot and hardly any toilet places, dirty, shoplifters, pickpockets, all I am saying is NO place is perfect, there is always a positive & a NEGATIVE in every place. Look to your neighbors with this issue. Money grab in their Air bnb accommodations available makes that visitor number just soar. 🤷🏻♀️
It’s so predictable and pathetic. In every country I know, people in small towns hate the big city. Small minds like small towns
In my opinion expats aren't the best either. Some are fine, but some are just rich expats buying the expensive houses in Amsterdam making it unaffordable for the locals and refusing to learn dutch, you can barely even order anything in Dutch when your in Amsterdam due to the expats.

Jeez, this comment section.... She didn't even say anything that bad.
I think people in this country are very defensive. If you don't praise The Netherlands 24/7 the Dutch will come for you... "If you don't like Stammpot, go back top your country!"
To be honest, I was expecting a bit more.

The housing issue is a national issue in the Netherlands and not only in Amsterdam. Crime is also a national issue in the Netherlands and as a whole in Western Europe. Living in the city centre is expensive everywhere ! Not only Amsterdam.
Not in San Francisco, which is the most similar city in the US to Amsterdam. It's considered among the least desirable areas of town. Just sayin'.
This is not true. I pay 400 euros (incl. utilities) for renting my 2 bedroom apartment in the city center of Budapest. The same standard of housing would cost me 2000 euros in Amsterdam. It is insanity.
Live here 39 years and sill love it... did not come for the weather or bikes, it is expensive but NY or Tel Aviv are not cheaper.
Nice to meet you. I like it here too. Pay attention to safety when traveling.

I like your videos.

Bar staff is paid, not like US staff depending on tip.
Some of the things you hate about AMS also applies to other cities nearby. Like bad weather. it's not exclusive to AMS. But the weather is shitty in general in that part of Europe.
I would never assume bad weather is only Amsterdam. but I live in Amsterdam, so this is my perspective.
I hear ya. Sorry you have to put up with that! In case your want more positive videos (I made this one because I'm always saying how much I love it!) here's my playlist. Not being able to wear high heels is the no 1 reason I hate It.
🤣 It's definitely a thing!
Oh yea I feel that Colin. Not sure if that has anything to do with the netherlands or Just becouse ima dude but still sure do. Same goes for hair extentions and skirts btw getting the weirdest looks all the time.
Ok, good journey home. Bye !
Ah the welcoming mentality of the dutch, a thing even texan people nowadays realise is wrong.
Keep the netherlands great!
Dutch people are so sensitive 😂😂😂
yeah, some people prefer hurricanes like Katrina every year to some mild winter weather in Amsterdam. Go figure.
Myself, I would lean into it: 'yes, that it's exactly why I live here, because I love drugs and hookers and I can't wait until my current high wears off so I can get high again and go to the red light for dildo sex.'
Anyway, I know you have more reasons to love Amsterdam, so that's cool. I just don't think most of your hates are unique to it.
Tot ziens!
wear your heels at home for short times, you dont want to chicken mc nuggets feet...☝🏾
trust me,my have nice feet and when out n about we see females with really messed up feet....all from tight pointy heels.
makes no sense and ruined feet are absoluty a no no.

The weather has been way too warm and dry the last few years, but go on complain about a moderate climate like someone who didn't know that beforehand. Does your species not do any research before moving somewhere?
The point/joke went over many people's heads...there isn't much to complain about so this is what you get. A list of silly things. But "your species"? Come on now.
I have seen hundreds of videos like this but I've never heard of that toilet situation!
Because, you can go to stores or small eating places and use the toilet there = normal for the Dutch.
Do you like it here too?
She is right about the toilet situation....My wife constantly complaints about....I do to but I"m a guy and it's easier for guys, LOL. Always carry small change for you can go to a major dept. store like Hema where you pay as so many do....
Most people are actually glad theres outdoor toilets at all, instead of complaining about it.
@@darrellbeets7758 you mean out in the woods.... Everyone complains about it. Relieving oneself does produce a problem in Holland. Or you have to find a place where you have to pay. Unless I'm in Holland ,I never carry extra change to go to the bathroom
You're doing a great job as a host! Wish you lots of success. I'm an expat in Paris.
Thank you so much! How long have you been in Paris? It's so interesting living somewhere you didn't grow up. It's a fun challenge!
I’ve been there such a long time ago, need to go back!
I hope you get to visit soon!
Hi, I lived in Amsterdam in 1998 and the prices where crazy back then as well! It was shocking.
So hard to imagine!
rental prices for expats and free market can be crazy. but if you are looking for unfurnished and out of center apartments, it makes a big difference. regarding daily expenses like food, public transport, mobile and internet subscriptions, it's cheaper than most big european cities.
Yeah..
I live in the North of England so can relate to your weather problems ( its raining & windy )
We all have the best rain gear, don't we? 🤣
Yes public toilets for woman is a major complain i hear often about Amsterdam. But restaurants always give you entry to theirs.
Yes, my point was more that there are urinals for men (even the pop-up ones that are available in the evenings), but not very many for women.
I don't think people who are putting negative comments are Netherlandinians.

OK Jessica you got me going.... Here is MY rant ;-) (It's all in good spirit.. we are friends! ) But yeah... I have to react:
1) The weather: This is not an Amsterdam exclusive.. :-p
2) Public toilets: There are soooooo many bars and cafe's and other places with an easy accessable toilet.
Love it! Yes, I hear you 😊 I just always talk about how much I love it that I had to make one like this! And I have a whole playlist outside Amsterdam 😉 ua-cam.com/play/PLrNbogOIGSGiBskb9Ty3jKObuMcGGtcN_.html
Don't worry, we'll get to more!
@@aWanderlustForLife : If you like to bike a bit near Amsterdam i can recommend a tour around the “Nieuwkoopse plassen” these are lakes and moats and canals and a lot of water MAN MADE because of centuries of digging out peat to keep the fires burning in Amsterdam and the other big cities. Nowadays it is a beautiful area with bikable paths and roads around it. A full circle is maybe about 10 - 15 km and there are places to rent ( electric ) bikes. It is beautiful!
Thanks for the tip!
If you dont like it here, Go back!
Watch literally any other video I have in Amsterdam. Or just watch the one on why I love it here. It's not the only video I have on the subject of living here.
I'm an expat who lived in NL for the last 12 years or so. At first I was in Amsterdam and found it really nice, however the city has changed for the worst and I would never live there anymore. I am now happily living in Haarlem since 7 years and I really love it. I don't think I've even been visiting Amsterdam in the last 2 or 3 years, and it's only 20 minutes by train...
Why? I am curious
12 years and still calling yourself an expat smh
@@BaasW Expat by definition is someone residing in a country different from his/her native one. So, yeah, even though I might live in NL 50 more years I will always be an expat here. You may or may not agree, makes no difference.
Ya the weather is definitely not the best.. Also it's kinda expensive and the Food is good. Not European Great. I've been to better spots but overall. Its still in my top 5. I hope I ever get there again. Seems unlikely at the moment sadly 😥

It is outrageous like how disgustingly rich is this country, to not be possible to make proper toilets around the city. Even for a guy is annoying that you literally sometimes you need to ask at the restaurants permission to just go and use it, because are not toilets. But is very clearly where those money go🤦♂
Where did you live before? Spain?
Six years in our country, why don’t you speak dutch?
That's a good one
Omdat Nederlands is niet een eigen taal, just a mix of other languages without any special culture or history behind it. So better learn French or German.

That's Amsterdam Noord! 😊
The weather is the same in whole the Netherlands
I'm not comparing to the whole of the Netherlands. I live in Amsterdam so I can only speak to it here.
All the world was always talking about the British /London weather ... but everything they have there .. in 3h comes to Amsterdam, you want a good weather .. northern Europe is not the place.
I've been in Amsterdam almost four yrs..my tip for bikes...get a great running bike that looks like crap 💯 I've never had mine stolen yet ..
I like my nice bike though!
Nobody is forcing you to say there 🤷
It seems the things that she hates about Amsterdam are not so "hatable" after all.

I visited Amsterdam a few years back and was very disappointed, far too crowded and everything aimed at the foreign tourist. A very overrated place.
I've definitely heard that before, but there are plenty of places in Amsterdam where it's not crowded (even in the center). I would not say it's over rated. There are plenty of good things about Amsterdam that make it worth a visit, but it is definately expensive
@@davidvilchez2209 Amsterdam is small, crowded, expensive and people are cold and distant... It is overrated, sorry
More shootings between criminals in R'dam though.
In Amsterdam around 9000 bikes are stolen every year. The number of 50.000-80.000 you presented is the amount of bikes stolen every year in THE ENTIRE COUNTRY. My advice is to do your research a bit better before you present these kind of bizarre numbers.
I got the number from here: www.dutchamsterdam.nl/857-stolen-bikes-in-amsterdam#note-857-1
And another article says that in "2019, 466,560 people in the Netherlands" were victims of bike theft. www.iamexpat.nl/expat-info/dutch-expat-news/bike-theft-netherlands-has-dropped-losses-remain-high
After diving a bit more into it, I see the 8000 number which is a bit confusing since I've always heard such a large number since I moved here.
