A few more things: - Adults and late stage juveniles can simply run and hold space to also take off. For taking off as early juvenile, jumping from high places and mashing F on the way down can allow you to take flight. - Tap A and D rather than holding them, as turning sharply will cause you to lose altitude. It’s best to slow down when making sharp turns, or tilting up while turning. You also shouldn’t fly straight up as it will cause you to stall/hover. - Space and Shift seem to have a toggle function when tapped, even if it is disabled in settings. You may find your dragon is flying very slow or fast. Tapping the corresponding control can stop this from happening. - Diving while holding space can tend to make you take damage when landing, even if you are moving slowly through the air. If you hear air whooshing while descending. You will most likely be hurt when touching the ground. - If you crash into something while flying, you may be able to hit F and begin flying again before landing. -If you are hovering and shift does not help you fly forward, you can angle downwards slightly to begin moving foward. Be careful with this as your dragon tends to shoot forward and you may crash.
Thank god for people like you! The controls made absolutely no sense to me as to why the dragon kept stalling and falling out of the air. Keep the momentum up. Would be nice if they would include that in the controls. Thank you so much. Have a nice day :)
I'm thinking about getting DoD- and I can tell I will have a lot to learn before I can master it- Was researchin' stuff abt gameplay and found this! Very helpful so ik what I'm getting into and lovely video. ^^
To take off, I just press shift and f while doing a sprinting jump, then hold shift and w (I have the controls inversed.) It seems a touch simpler than the default way I think.
I remember when I first bought DoD and I got the chance to fly i nearly killed my dragon upon landing and take-off failures, so I came to UA-cam and watched this, it was so helpful I subscribed and now I find myself able to out maneuver most other players with relative ease, and it all started here :)
@@hermon1985 I grew another dragon and now I can't even get off the ground and I followed what the video was doing..... idk what the heck is going on lol
@@Silverwolf387 haha the inverted controls helped me big time but i was still having crashes to the ground here in there with Mouse and Keyboard. I got it but still it was hit or miss here and there and you get hurt bad depending how high you fall from lol I ended up hooking up a Gaming Controller and it is MUCH easier now to fly plus the inverted controls. I was struggling with the camera angle also but the controller made all the difference. I still have moments here and there having a issue getting off the ground which i hope gets ironed out but for the most part now i am doing much better now.
F will activate fly but it is a little fiddley. As a baby if you are dropped from up high you can press F and enter fly mode to glide safely back down to the ground. However you need to be close to 40% through Juvenile before you can managed powered flight. Sometimes if you stall in take off you can press F and sometimes give yourself a kick to get yourself going.
Make sure you are the right age to achieve powered flight (just before you reach halfway on Juvenile) and that you are on a server with minimal ping. Sometimes on servers with a high ping you can desync and it won't let you get airborne. Holding the W and Space bar a little longer during takeoff can also help as you have to keep momentum to take off and any sort of stall can prevent this.
@@TheGingeQueen Aye it can be tricky to find the cause of these things so I'm just running down a list of what it might be . Once you get in the air though and start flying it really is amazing.
To land, I just press space and let the dragon go into hover mode all the way down. I rather be cautious since I kept on crashing into the ground when I tried your method. Is this method good too?
Its still a great method and can give you practice with distence and speed. Being up too high or moving too fast before pressing F will send you crashing, but over time you will get the hand of judging it. Always do what works for you.
Last night my buddy and I flew for the first time! It was a struggle, we literally were like two juvies learning for the first time 😆 it was great fun. But we were told to use F while taking off is that necessary or not? Based on what you've shown F is only for landing?
F is very useful for younger dragons who don't have the acceleration they need to achieve powered flight. Think of F as landing gear. It tucks your legs in and gets you ready for flight. Adults are able to get into the air where they don't have to tell the game (with F) that flying is what they are trying to do. F, can also be useful if you stall during take off.
@@Lusewing So when do you use F? After you jump into the air? As you're using Shift+S? Do you tap it or hold it? Sorry it was very confusing while we were trying it.
@@aerykgunn No worries at all - there are are lot of things to juggle. F can be pressed after you get into the air I will hold Shift and S untill i have the altitude I want. Normally when i jump I will hold the space bar a little longer while pressing S as this seems to stop me from stalling out.
You and me both. It took me ages to get my head around the controls but now...there is nothing to compare. I'm really looking forward to the Singe crest too experience how it flies.

NGL I like The Isle's Camera based flight better as it is smoother where pressing space helps you gain altitude - it appeals to a larger player base - and means people won't be put of by other players being elitist weirdos about the controls. THAT BEING SAID - I like the idea of the controls a lot. It's fun.
Aye, its a lot of fun seeing how difrent games tackle flight. I will say the imputs soon become second nature after a few flight and it gives you a lot of control in the air, something that it particually important when a good portion of combat can be airborn.
I'm able to take flight, but I like lightning speed through the air then face plant. Or I can't stay in the air. Do I have to hold certain buttons while flying?
If you find yourself stalling as you take off try holding down the spacebar a touch longer. As for in flight no button needs to be held though shift will be pressed most to maintain your momentum. The last couple of builds have had some issues with flight, but it is being worked on.
Once you get old enough for powered flight (about half way past Juvi) you won't need to hit F to take off, It can however be useful if you stall on take off.
