I grew up literally on the fairways of golf courses in the Palm Springs/Palm Desert area and went to high school in Pebble Beach. I know golf courses. I know the most beautiful golf courses anywhere!
However, when my wife and I attended the Masters about 8 years ago, after entering the grounds at Agusta National on a Practice Day at about 8:30am I almost dropped to my knees at my first sight of the course. It's majesty and magnificence is simply indescribable, for me at least.
With every angle, view, fairway knoll, creek, green, incredible change in elevation......everything, it just exceeded all expectation and fantasy. It was almost a religious experience.
Some might think this is hyperbole, but I'm dead serious. It's crazy beautiful.
Been trying to get there for over 20 years. Still trying to get tickets JUST to see the course.

A friend of mine who is a race car driver (Indycar) has only been in the United States for two years and has already played two rounds at Agusta National. He wonders why I refer to him as "that son-of-a-bitch"!

That's cool. Never realized they made this course so hard to play, everything is against you. You just have to play smart. This definitely isn't the course to attack, you have to let it show you where to go.
It's so different in person it's so hilly people don't understand that part and the greens my god so so fast and near impossible to read first time
It’s definitely a course to attack. In fact, it is THE course to attack. It’s such a compelling course because it provides clear opportunities to attack and absolutely rewards great shots… but it also requires creativity, shaping, and execution to do so and absolutely punishes mistakes, especially on the attacking opportunities. It’s got many of the great risk-reward holes in good history on one course.

Very cool to see this just a couple of days from the start of the tournament. A lot of small details that even the commentators might miss. Really looking forward to this one. Planning my meals in advance, so I am locked and loaded.

Reasons there’s NO WAY you could’ve made a tee time for Augusta National using:
1) Augusta National is a private club- only extremely wealthy and influential people are members of the club
2) The Masters is being played at Augusta this week; thus, ONLY PGA TOUR PLAYERS will be on the course
Anyway, better check that you reserved the right “Augusta”!golf course…

What an amazing insight into the challenges these champions faced and overcame at Augusta on their way to Masters glory. Loved hearing the strategy and perils of playing these famous holes! I wish they'd put Augusta on Toptracer.
On my old computer I could play 2001 Links golf, and someone made the Masters course and shared it online....I'm sure that was not 'official'...it was simply awesome. I got to know every hole, the detail was so well done. But all good things have to come to an end.

It would hurt me because he is the player I most cheer for, but it would be peak content.
A TEN handicap playing here for the first time would not crack 100 on this great course from the Tour Tees. The Greens are so tough that if you put the ball in the wrong place, a 3 putt is guaranteed, and a 4-putt can easily come into play. I would love to play it someday but that is a total fantasy.
Man, idk what it is but hearing Tiger instantly brings me to tears.
It’s such an interesting course. It’s pretty wide open and the fairways run. What makes it hard is that there are almost no flat lies and the greens. So many of theses courses the guys can bomb it and hit a wedge or short iron right at the pin. At Augusta you need the perfect distance and landing spot so the slope takes the ball to the hole. We have seen the course be super wet and calm wind, scores are low12-15 under. When it’s playing fast and firm with just a bit of wind 3-5 under can win it.

I'm with Bubba. 13 is the best hole at Augusta. I can't put my finger on why I love it so much. I think it's the look of the green with those bunkers behind and Azaleas everywhere.

Hearing that Jack, as far as he remembers, has never hit a ball in the water in a tournament, is quite mind-boggling.
Actually he hit it into the water at number 15 once but played out of it and almost holed it.

Drives me nuts when unnecessary lout music is added that covers up good info. My hearing sucks and it’s like trying to have a conversation in a loud restaurant.

Perhaps an ignorant question. I’ve heard the Masters makes changes yearly or almost yearly to adapt the course to modern play; in other words to keep the course competitive for the current group of Pros (no easy holes). If that is the case, how have some of these holes changed since Nicholas, Watson, Faldo etc. played and therefore the strategy to the hole? Just wondering.
They've lengthen the entire course. Added more bunkers and also made them deeper. Tighter fairways that command precision tee shots. Undulating greens makes three putts not so uncommon. A wayward drive or a putting mis read will take you out of contention quick like, fast and in a hurry. Any round under par is a great round, shooting even par is a good round. This beast is hard to tame!
