Japanese resident here. Manga at the front of the restaurant are a staple of many locally owned cafes and some chain restaurants in Japan, and they are there for customers to read while they wait for their food, or keep their children quiet while the adults have a conversation. Depending on the location, they'll either be a selection of the owner's favorite series, or they will have a deal with a publisher like Jump to feature some of their more popular works like Demon Slayer, or Jujutsu Kaisen. Not sure if manga is a common feature at Denny's, but I do know Family restaurants like Victoria (Japanese Big Boy) or Cocos will have cheap toys and gum available for purchase at the front for the same reason. Although from my experience, it seems to lead more to kids screaming at their parents until they cave and buy them the plastic gun or hi-chews.
@@ragsdale710 If my memory serves me correct, no, but the menu had wonderful illustrations of each dish so you can always point to the pictures that look tasty 😋. There is a number system (either 1 to 10, or 0 to 10) for the level of spiciness; if you like spiciness for the flavor and not the heat, I would aim for somewhere below 4 because the curry can seem exceptionally more spicy with how hot (temperature) the meals are served to you. Google translate's camera feature will be a helpful friend if you want more information from the menus. Good luck to you! Edit: if you mean coco's in the states, then yes the menus are in English :)
Damn, Coco's is on its death bed in the US because some guy bought it as a birthday present for his son and the son was a cheapskate and didn't know anything about running a restaurant chain.

The place was mostly empty, it was rounding midnight, and guys in nice clothes ran in, looked at me, asked me to "be cool", grabbed a very scared man, and left. There are actually quite a number of Danny’s in detective Conan. Especially considering that “Conan and company go to a family restaurant and then someone in the general vicinity gets murdered the instant they walk in.” Is a REALLY common plot setup especially in filler episodes.
When she was explaining Dennys I thought “oh… so Dennys is just Waffle House. That explains a lot.” I now understand the trope of theater kids going to Denny’s because my speech and debate group (at least, since I’ve left) had a ritual of going to Waffle House after every competition
Yeah she was describing Denny's and it sounded like Waffle House so i understand a lot more about America now. However, Waffle House food goes crazy, i would neer slander them.
In Minnesota, we don't have Waffle House. But when I went to Indianapolis on a trip, I got there at about 2:00 AM, and every restaurant was either closed, or was a bar that wouldn't let a 20-year-old in. Except for Waffle House. I hadn't slept on the train ride there, I wasn't able to check into the hotel, and I just wanted a place to sit down for a while. You'd better believe those were the best damn waffles I've ever had.
@@kilovwdude6457 Yea Dennys is where you take grandma, a gaggle of highschoolers, or where you stop on a 15 hour car ride when people are about 20 minutes for killing eachother. Its in the weird space bettween classy and trashy. Wafflehouse thats where you go for good diner food and 3 am people watching with the chance of being stabbed.
Hi, insane Gintama fan here. They do, in fact, have a separate parody of Denny’s called Tenny’s! It’s the diner they use for any general restaurant scene, but you can see it’s a Tenny’s in episode 232, where you can get a good look at the sign. The whole parfait thing also applies here too, but that’s partially because one of Gintoki’s character quirks is that he likes sweets and parfaits.
As a resident of the UK, my only experience at Denny's was going there at 11pm right near the airport with my best friend. Between the jet lag enhancing the taste of the food and being with her in person for the first time ever, it was a wonderful experience. They didn't even fuck up our meals, which was a plus.
One time I was at a Denny's and wanted chicken and waffles but they didn't have it on their menu (despite me seeing it at another local Denny's), so I ordered a waffle and chicken tenders separately. The waitress said, probably louder than she intended to, "Very ethnic of you sir" and then walked off
Had a similar experience at a Little America in the middle of nowhere Wyoming, asked for vinaigrette but apparently nobody in the kitchen knew what that was so they just came back with a bowl of pure vinegar?????
I was literally at a waffle house last night where a couple groups of guys were leaving and one of them asked for those silly paper hats they usually give out to kids, but then they all wanted one and the server just ended up passing one out to everyone there, and then the boys starting chanting "waffle house! waffle house!" and cheered and then went on their merry ways lmao.
@AkamaruFoxHound It's easy to be extra chaotic when you still haven't gone to bed yet, so you're loopy from needing sleep. Or you're drunk! Or it's BOTH.
I'm Irish, and as such I've only been to Denny's a few times in my life whilst on holiday in Florida, but I have one of those late night Denny's experiences - we got cought in a storm and ran into a nearby Denny's for shelter. I so vividly remember sitting drinking a milkshake whilst watching the storm batter the windows and the palm trees shaking back and forth... it was nice. I'll always have a soft spot for Denny's for that exact reason - it takes me back to being a kid on vacation and thinking all the kitschy, low-brow Americana that dotted Orlando was the coolest thing in the world. I even stole the kid's menu and brought it back with me as a souvenir. It was the old mid-2000s space themed one, it anyone remembers that, with those rocket-ship shaped drinking cups. We need those in an anime Denny's smh. TL;DR - This video brought me back. The vibes? Immaculate. I really want a Grand Slam now.
I’m SO happy you brought up how integral Denny’s is to DIY band culture!! i too have countless memories after concerts and band practices where we’d always end up at Denny’s cuz it’s the only thing open that late. The association is so endearing that I always feel at home seeing these depictions of the restaurant, even with the differences across the globe. Also, having been to Japan now a couple times recently, I can definitely say the Denny’s experiences there continue to add fond memories, with even better food and atmosphere lol
this and high school theatre!! we always used to go to denny’s after a closing night because it’s the only thing open so late. always such an experience.
I used to work the overnight shift at a Denny's. It always had this high pressure chaotic yet calm energy where you never knew what the hell would happen next. Sometimes nobody would come in for two hours straight, sometimes an entire family reunion of 30 people would show up unannounced at 4 am. And sometimes if the moon was right a homeless person would smash open the breaker box outside in back and turn off all the power for no reason.
@@kek-senpai243 Then what the fuck else do you call her content? "niche Japanese pop cultural trivia for Westerners with interest and familiarity with Japan's animation cultural export"? when i was young, probably 10, i was at a denny's with my older cousin, uncle and aunt. I grew up in Canada and my cousin and her parents had lived in America for years. this would be my first and last excursion to a restaurant of the Denny persuasion. things were going pretty well, i never liked most breakfast foods but i was drinking a very tasty strawberry milkshake. fatal mistake: i kept the milkshake at the edge of the table and eventually i noticed that the condensation had been dripping onto my lap and it looked like id pissed myself. embarassed and 10 years old i covered the wet spot with my hoodie and retreated to the bathroom, where i tried to dry the spot with the hand driers. i took so long that my cousin came into the bathroom and asked what i was doing, but at least the spot had mostly dried. i lied and said i was throwing up and the eggs were probably gone bad or raw. she told her dad (my uncle) and he was a dick about it to the waitress and demanded a second serving of eggs for me (to replace the thrown up ones which were not thrown up they were in me still) and so i had to eat a second full serving of dennys eggs. i did not like eggs much at all.
The thing I love most about Denny's is, not the food, but the architecture! There are hundreds of Denny's all over the country designed by Armet and Davis in the 1960s that still have their quirky mid century charm.
On the Detective Conan Denny's parodies I can think of a couple examples of of the top of my head. 1) Episode 925-926 (a 2 parter) they go to a "Danny's", but different from your screenshot. In my further research it appears to be based on Denny's Kitayamada (a peak Japanese Dennys imo). They don''t actually eat, they just get juice and coffee (a bit of a let down). but they do sit in a U shaped booth which I feel like enhances my personal rating haha. 2)Episode 651(this is where the screen shot is from!) Most of the 1hour episode (its a special) takes part in the Danny's as there is a poisoning murder case. Other than that though... the food looks pretty damn good. Like I would definitely eat there! (This is where the iconic curry if from) 3)Episode 4. The Detective Boys run past a Donny's while on a treasure hunt. This would put it in egg tier as it is a mystery what is inside. 4)Episode 96 briefly features a "Doneey’s". Just juice, no food. Another note is this episode is ALSO A SPECIAL (running at about 1.5 hours). 5)Episode 102-103 features "Donny's". We get a look at their burgers (in a photo) and they seem to be pretty good. We only see coffee (and cigarettes) being consumed though. Speed round... 6) Movie 20 (The Darkest Nightmare) features "Danny's". 7) Episode 791 features "Danny's" 8) Episode 903 features "Danny's" Fun fact! At the official detective conan cafe in 2015 curry from "Danny's curry" was on the menu!!! Also there are countless mentions of the curry from Danny's being REALLY GOOD. Like even if its not shown in the episode I def remember random mentions of it lolol. There are certainly way more times that Danny's (or Donny's) appear in DC but these are just the ones that I could think of without breaking my brain.
Back in college our anime club always had an "anime quiz" during our semester parties - it was a real hit, trust me! Anyways there was always a section of questions dedicated to guessing anime with the same thing in each screenshot. Throughout the years we used space elevators, McDonald's, and Denny's, of course. Though my favorite was when we used seagulls. Just plain ol' California gulls. Thanks for the video and for making me feel nostalgic during the workday!
Your videos are like the perfect embodiment of nostalgic anime comfort, like falling asleep in a Pokémon snuggy on a couch with your friends after binging a slice of life show
my gf is from japan and i remember spending a LOT of time in denny's, saizeria, cafe gusto, etc in our early days just chilling and hanging out, sometimes with a meal but sometimes not. They do a good job making a lot of a little, something on a long list of things I miss about being there.
There's 2 time periods of my life that when I look back on I think of Denny's. In 97 when I was 13 I moved from California to Maryland. It was just my dad and I taking the moving van cross country while the rest of my family flew. We probably ate at a dozen different Denny's along the way. Then when I got older and was gigging in bands around the north east Denny's was our diner of choice at 3am. Many fond memories from back then....thanks for bringing them back.😁
All of your videos bring me a warmth an happiness that is very hard to find anymore. It reminds me of being a kid in the 2000s and early 2010s, playing a GameCube and watching the over stylized kid channels of the time. It makes me feel like I’m with my brother on a warm summers day. Please never stop making videos, you are my favorite UA-camr.
Every time you said Dunny's I was reminded of the episode of Bluey I saw with my child not long ago. Basically the whole episode revolves around how Chili the mom doesn't want the kids or their dad Bandit calling toilets dunny[dunnies? dunnys?] because it's "not proper" sparking a lovely line of Bluey saying "But what if I say... dun.... heap?" iirc. Also amazing video as always!
Yes, _dunny_ is indeed slang for any toilet here. Not a word you'd use in polite company, but not quite obscene. I tend to associate its use with speakers of more "broad" Australian English. Specifically an outhouse in the UK, apparently dated slang there, no idea how common its use is today.
You know… it’s gonna be really hard explaining why I added so many of these to my list. “Their Denny’s equivalent looked good” is not going to be very convincing
Thank you for including an approximately 2 second video of the Black Licorice Game from 2002 in the first 30 seconds of the video. The image activated one of my most ancient brain cell connections, hanging on by a literal thread, but still somehow so strong that every single pixel evoked a response of such pure recognition, the sheer joy of once again reactivating, the brain cell exploded and I have just moments ago been diagnosed with an irreversible cerebral hemorrhage. I can die in peace
Weirdly I've always enjoyed Denny's. My only bummer is that they stopped serving a sandwich they used to have (like 20 years ago, I'm bad about letting stuff go) at my local restaurant that was like an entire goddamn super omelet sandwich stuffed with peppers and sausage. Loved that thing. EDIT: It might have been the original grand-slamwich before they shrunk the thing. It could also be green onions on top of that spaghetti.
Check back every year, 3 years, and five years at Denny's, even if just going in and looking at a menu. Denny's is always changing their menu items, and sometimes they'll bring back items that haven't been on the menu for 10, 20, or 40 years, I'm waiting for the skillets to come back. Also know if the restaurant is franchise or corporate, the menu will be different at the exact same time for both. For awhile all the corporate Denny's around me redesigned the insides with a 1950's diner theme from a design team that had never seen a 50's diner and thought kitch was a design ideal, and franchise owners didn't allow even a hint of that into the restaurant.
As someone who grew up in a home town with both a Denny's and a Waffle House, I can confirm that the teenage/college experience Hazel speaks of (complete with random fights at 3 in the morning at that Waffle House). Man. I could really go for some hash browns. Damnit.
As a current server at Denny’s and long time fan of yours, this video was a wonderful treat to watch after work!!! Its nice to see no matter the location dennys is a being in itself
Toradora’s Johnny’s was the only one I could think of off the top of my head, so I felt pretty excited that it was the first one. I somehow completely forgot that they went to a family restaurant in Bocchi, even though I’ve already watched that show twice. Fucking love Bocchi.
This is the type of niche content I didn’t know I needed. Now I need a WcDonald’s one as a companion piece. Maybe a Lawson’s and others for later installments. Very nice! 🍳🥞 🥓
The Family's in Initial D is where the main racers hang out or just lay out exposition stuff in the first season so I think it must be in their little prefecture of Gunma and the main mountain they race down, Akagiyama. The later seasons they travel around a lot more and Jonny's pops up when our main boy Takumi starts seeing a girl from some other town or something. So it's unfortunately just a different place. I assume because he doesn't want his buddies to pop in suddenly and ruin his date. But also everyone had a pretty drastic change in looks from season 1 to 5 so who really can say if it's not just that.
I actually get what you mean. It feels like so many UA-camrs I watch happen to be Canadian that I never assume whether someone is from the US or Canada if I don’t know. I just happened to know Hazel was from Cali from an older video, but I wouldn’t have assumed if I didn’t already know. (This proverbial coin toss between whether a UA-camr is from the US or Canada only applies to the ones who aren’t obviously not from either, of course)
Hazel, I don't know if I commented about this before, but I love you're style of videos, aesthetic, and presentation. Your videos make me think about having a friend you met at the local library only because they were looking at a book on 80s/90s motel room design and you were looking at a book on mushroom species, you looked at each other holding your respective books, thought, "Hey, that seems like an interesting topic", and proceeded to talk about whatever in the reading nook by the window till closing time. So every once in a while you plan to meet up with them in the same reading nook, with something to drink from the coffeeshop a block away and some snacks from the convenience store down the road, and your friend will just info dump about whatever topic is on their mind that day. It might not be groundbreaking topics, but it's still interesting nonetheless. Thanks for being that friend for me, and I appreciate the time you take in forming this ambiance for your channel, I hope I can do something similar one day at some capacity. •ᴗ•
This is the absolute gold-standard of content I am here for. I rate this video the highest my Denny's history will permit: third cup of coffee, $6 Classic Burger and fries with extra pickles and a side of ranch, PLUS a Pancake Puppy Sundae because it's payday.
Didn't know I needed this on my monday. But I needed this on my monday whilst working on my model railroad scratchbuilding hobby. Love all the awesome content ya make for us Hazel. You are awesome.
This is great and I really like how you break the "tier list" mold of individually ranking each and every one of the restaurants (bc imo it definitely can feel excessive and tryhard-school-essay-like, like you mentioned). The amount of content and funny comments & little edits in between is perfect. Subscribed, thank you for the anime (and sonic) content :)
I feel like we see so many parfaits in anime because they're pretty/cute. Might also be easier/better to draw as a collection of blobs of colors, some swirls, and then a few fruits here and there. Like it's strange with how common they are but they aren't on the American Denny's menu but they are found on Japanese Denny's menu (from the brief bit of research I did). Just feels like a whole rabbit hole to go down.
You take such unmistakeable joy in disseminating the fascinating details of mundane lives. I would call you an armchair anthropologist. ❤️ I was always inexplicably overjoyed by the local hangout out the kids' hangout in the anime Hikaru no Go, called NcDonalds (home of the single arch), and that part of myself was quite happy to watch this entire video.
Your video topics never fail to make me think WTF lol, thank you for continuing to making awesome content (whether that takes weeks or months to put out does not matter!). Feels like anything anime or video game related is just turning into nothing but slightly edited Twitch streams anymore so it's so nice to have actual *content* that was produced by someone.
i love how most of the comments are people recounting their best Denny’s memories. when i was growing up, my cousin worked at Denny’s and i have fond memories of her picking me up from school and the managers letting me sit in a booth in the corner to do my homework and draw all over the backs of used order tickets while she worked. i also remember her smuggling the masks that came with the Madagascar movie tie-in kids meals home for me because i was, for some reason, obsessed with them.
You know, although I haven't traveled a whole lot, I have traveled around the US a bit. Throughout my travels, I've found that the quality of Denny's varies wildly from place to place. For an example, there is a really good Denny's in Topeka, Kansas. The customer service was great, and the food was delicious. On the flip side, there is a terrible Denny's in Wilmington, North Caroline that I'll never visit again.
This speaks to me. Incidentally in Australia we have a franchise called The Pancake Parlour, which is our Dennys- they're often open super late (some 24 hours), food varies from reasonable to barely edible, and run by Scientologists. Yay!
At 28:14 right after you said "I've got another pick," I got an ad for Applebee's, but I had this on in the background and didn't notice so I really thought you just hard transitioned to an Applebee's sponsorship and were raving about their 2 for 20 menu. Then the ad ended and I realized that I might just be stupid.
i have literally never been to the US, neither Japan, never even heard of Denny's or whatever it's called, and here I am finishing this half an hour video, just happy to virtually listen to this girl about the random shit she's passionate researching about
I'm reminded of the time that me and a bunch of friends went to a Denny's after a wedding recital, of all things, and we started excitedly talking shop about an insane genre-bending TTRPG campaign that we were all playing in. Imagine being the waitress or the old ladies off in the corner, hearing these very well-dressed nerds talking about political assassinations and plans to take over a small kingdom with complete seriousness. Wild stuff from literally any other perspective than our own. Thank you, Denny's.
3:08 I immediately started headbanging when hazel played the Cafe Alpha theme from Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou while talking about Yokohama. True video editing genious right here fr fr.
I spent a majority of my 20's going to Denny's after work with my fellow 2nd shift coworkers and friends. We'd stay out in the parking lot goofing around and smoking cigarettes until the wee hours of the morning. The food was subpar, but the memories will stay with me till death
Being a lost 19 year old sitting in Denny's with people I don't really know chain smoking and drinking black coffee till all hours of the night rushed back to me while watching your video. Thank you and also screw you? for homing in on such a personal time for myself.
These videos are always just right there with what I'm into. I can imagine a hypothetical perfect Hazel episode about comfy animes that are set mostly at night time but aren't horrors, or if they are, not scary horrors. Like a permanent 3AM crisp fresh air cigarette out of your best friend's bedroom window in 2007. Anyway, great work, as always, and thank you.
I don't know what I was expecting when I decided to watch a half hour of a woman ranking anime adaptations of Denny's variants with a menu item-based tier list, but the extensive, if absurd, logistic research leaves me strangely fulfilled. I rate this an Everyday Value Slam.
While I don't have much to say about the video itself (beyond it being good and comfy like the rest of your content), I just want to say that the mention of Asuka 120% made me smile; all seven people who remember / are fans of that series appreciate it ❤
That was fun, I'm a big fan of the approximate starbucks, brandnames, and cola brands in Anime, so this fit in that niche nicely ^^ I love seeing how close animation can get without getting too close. Also this video made me want to go make my own plate of eggs and pancakes for whatever reason lol You sound like you were having a lot of fun with recording this one, and I hope you do more videos in this 'just for fun' style. It's funny how a passing thought like "how many Anime Denny a-likes are there?" can lead down the rabbit hole. Great vid ^^

I really respect how u just make whatever kind of videos u want and they're all ALWAYS very entertaining & somehow comforting 😂😂 please never changeee (PS I never thought I'd hear a song from the JSRF OST in a modern UA-cam video so I really appreciate that unexpected throwback)
Truly one of my favorite video topics on the channel, I love when you get hyper focused on a hazel specific concept and go ham on it. Also damn right beck is a grand slam. Anything less and I would have instigated a riot. Nothing to do with the Danny's in the show.
For the Initial D bit. The restaurants are different locations, FamilyS (is actually based off a different real life restaurant chain called Gusto) is the frequented location early in the show in Gunma close to Akina mountain. Jonny's appears as a different restaurants located close to Saitama and is only used for Takumi's dates in 5th/final stage.
As an Initial D connoisseur myself I was really hoping at least one person in the comments would make this distinction. So thank you kind sir, ma'am, or gender neutral term I'm unaware exists.
I love your combination of frank but in-depth analysis with your own personal opinions and stories. It feels like we’re sitting in a Denny’s together late at night and you’re ranting to me about anime XD
When I was growing up on an American navy base in Yokohama, my mom didn't like taking us into the city very much because we were super poor and didn't speak any Japanese (oops!). The solution to both of these things? Any time we were in the city, we'd eat at a Denny's. I have pretty vivid memories of pointing at the tastiest-looking picture on the menu, doing rough monetary calculations with the loose rule that a hundred yen was about a dollar.
Your videos bring me so much comfort In a way I can’t explain. I feel transported back in time to when I first learned about anime and devoured anything I could get of it. It’s so wonderful, thank you so much
The fact you made moons over my hammy the worst rank had me laughing so hard. I saw a news article a month or 2 ago that a Dennis sign fell on a car and killed a woman, and my first reaction was "imagine getting to heaven and you have to explain to St Peter your last meal was a Moons over My Hammy"
I've never had a bad experience at a Dennys here is Southeast Wisconsin. Detective Conan has a Danny's in 651 which stands on it's own reasonably well, another one's in 925-926. I'm not sure what the Restaurant much of the cast of Rumbling Hearts works at is supposed to be, but I think you'd like it.
LIGHT SPOILERS FOR INITIAL D (for the sake of explanation): While its never stated that the characters never go to Family's and use Joony's later because of this event, the main character finds someone that shouldn't be there in stage/season 3 and that night goes terribly wrong. I think both that event and the earlier hangout place (Family's) were the same.
I absolutely would pour myself a cup from a dispenser labelled FOR NIGHTBREEDS... and then be really nervous the whole time that an actual Nightbreed would spot me drinking from the machine and kick my ass.
I've actually never been to Denny's (the closest one is a county over, but my town DOES have a decent Waffle House I frequent and an IHOP I don't). I need to go, at least to say I have. Retro-style Diners are a vibe for me (if I'm using "vibe" correctly.) And that ham, egg, cheese sandwich actually looks pretty good in spite of the cartoonishly goofy, diner lingo, name.
i just love how you come up with the most random topics to cover and explore and i get so sucked in every time. i just sat here waiting for an anime i knew was gonna show up and show up and go “yeah true” then so on until you listed them all. this is such a goofy video and i love it. (also sneaking in that this is a 10/10 vid just by referencing durarara only bc it’s my favorite anime ever 👍)

@@hedgiagames4205 I do hear it talked about a lot actually, just usually in the context of "anime that realistically should have ended 15 years ago"
As a denizen of the American South, I would like to have Hazel witness the magic that is 4AM Waffle House.
As a Texan Denys ain't got shit on waffle house
Denny cants beat the am I gonna die here atmosphere and the food at waffle house is actually good
@@kilovwdude6457 Yea Dennys is where you take grandma, a gaggle of highschoolers, or where you stop on a 15 hour car ride when people are about 20 minutes for killing eachother.
I never realized it was supposed to be a Denny’s omg, good to know haha!
As a resident of the UK, my only experience at Denny's was going there at 11pm right near the airport with my best friend. Between the jet lag enhancing the taste of the food and being with her in person for the first time ever, it was a wonderful experience. They didn't even fuck up our meals, which was a plus.
Love this 7-minute lead-in both justifying this venture *AND* laying the contextual, historical, and anecdotal background for 'anime Denny's'
One time I was at a Denny's and wanted chicken and waffles but they didn't have it on their menu (despite me seeing it at another local Denny's), so I ordered a waffle and chicken tenders separately. The waitress said, probably louder than she intended to, "Very ethnic of you sir" and then walked off
Apparently she was having a bad day. That's such a bizarre thing to do
the way i just gasped out loud
Had a similar experience at a Little America in the middle of nowhere Wyoming, asked for vinaigrette but apparently nobody in the kitchen knew what that was so they just came back with a bowl of pure vinegar?????
I was literally at a waffle house last night where a couple groups of guys were leaving and one of them asked for those silly paper hats they usually give out to kids, but then they all wanted one and the server just ended up passing one out to everyone there, and then the boys starting chanting "waffle house! waffle house!" and cheered and then went on their merry ways lmao.
Waffle House has a lingering chaotic energy that amplifies at night for some reason
@AkamaruFoxHound It's easy to be extra chaotic when you still haven't gone to bed yet, so you're loopy from needing sleep. Or you're drunk! Or it's BOTH.
This ain't even chaos it's just a healthy amount of community that everywhere else so dearly lacks
The vibes? Immaculate. I really want a Grand Slam now.
i love this comment so much its so vivid i need an entire film adaptation
From Florida and I have the space cup at my childhood home this comment was very nostalgic
I remember those cups!! Ah such fond memories ❤️
Awwwww~~~ That's precious~~
omg the space cups!! i had almost forgotten about those completely 🥺
Calm, yet chaotic is an amazing way to paint with words a picture of this (eldritch?) place. Almost makes me regret not having a Denny's where I live.
I couldn't imagine doing midnight food service. That must have been tough.
Burst into laughter when I realised that this was indeed an analysis of how good of an experience being at each Denny's would be. Excellent stuff.
Hazel continuing to make the best weeaboo based content on the internet with such a massive power gap she's the only one on the tier list.
Any other suggestions for silimar channels? Sakura Stardust and Red Bard are the only others I can think of that do Japan-centric content
Yeah like who's she competing with? Garnt? That's like a chess grandmaster showboating at a regional youth chess qualifier.
>best weeaboo content
Lol, lmao even
There's no such thing.
@@kek-senpai243 Then what the fuck else do you call her content? "niche Japanese pop cultural trivia for Westerners with interest and familiarity with Japan's animation cultural export"?
And btw, nobody's impressed by you trying to use green text with fucking twitter lingo lmao. Just comes across as trying too hard.
Oh GTV Japan is good too. He does a lot of deep-dives with research from books and articles in Japanese
when i was young, probably 10, i was at a denny's with my older cousin, uncle and aunt.
(This is where the iconic curry if from)
3)Episode 4.
7) Episode 791 features "Danny's"
8) Episode 903 features "Danny's"
Fun fact!
I've been watching detective conan lately and I knew I recognized that specific shot, thanks for this!
there's also a danny's in a recent manga case that has yet to be animated (ch 1091-1093)
seeing all the various knock off Dennys in DC were always the highlight of my day when I was still reading/watching it lmao
Thanks for the video and for making me feel nostalgic during the workday!
aquariums would have been great for this
That sounds hilarious. I would love to play a trivia game like that
Your videos are like the perfect embodiment of nostalgic anime comfort, like falling asleep in a Pokémon snuggy on a couch with your friends after binging a slice of life show
Hazel officially entering unhinged era. I'm here for that.
I personally think more people should use Denny's menu items as ranking systems
my gf is from japan and i remember spending a LOT of time in denny's, saizeria, cafe gusto, etc in our early days just chilling and hanging out, sometimes with a meal but sometimes not.
Strong vibe recognition there, I get the same sort of energy.
@@fluffypink90 I greatly appreciate the knowledge! I was curious if it was an actual slang term or just something they had made up for the episode.
Always a delight when you put out a new video. The quality is consistent and the wait is always worth it.
Wish her old videos would stop being made private though
hazel anime is the only person whose videos I can watch when recovering from a migraine. thank you, hazel anime
Is that Power in glasses?
@@PowerSynopsis yea
@@jonahj9519 hmm, exquisite taste
Hazel living in the US honestly took me off guard. I dont know why I'd just sort of always thought she was Canadian
every youtuber is from toronto
She did a vid a while back about moving from california so..
I feel like she's made at least passing references to being from SoCal in a lot of her videos
She's too good for us.
This is the exact weirdly specific nonsense that I’m subbed for. Thank you hazel ❤
I love how this video felt every so slightly more manic with each entry
I feel like we see so many parfaits in anime because they're pretty/cute. Might also be easier/better to draw as a collection of blobs of colors, some swirls, and then a few fruits here and there. Like it's strange with how common they are but they aren't on the American Denny's menu but they are found on Japanese Denny's menu (from the brief bit of research I did). Just feels like a whole rabbit hole to go down.
hi hazel, since I'm early I just wanted to say that your videos are always super cozy and bring a bit more peace into my life. Thank you!
Hazel's videos are like Becky Chamber's SF Novels. they're a warm hug in a dark world even if the topics are dark.
You take such unmistakeable joy in disseminating the fascinating details of mundane lives. I would call you an armchair anthropologist. ❤️
I was always inexplicably overjoyed by the local hangout out the kids' hangout in the anime Hikaru no Go, called NcDonalds (home of the single arch), and that part of myself was quite happy to watch this entire video.
God I’ve been rewatching your videos for the last two days because I needed a fix and then this dropped
this is the type of video i go back to and rewatch when i am sad, thank you for this great video
Comparing School Days to fish and chips from Denny's is so painfully accurate that it hurts.
3:08 I think that transition just literally melted my heart. I could watch it for literal hours.
New hazel kino to break that mid-March slump.
While I don't have much to say about the video itself (beyond it being good and comfy like the rest of your content), I just want to say that the mention of Asuka 120% made me smile; all seven people who remember / are fans of that series appreciate it ❤
This video had serious Cracked article energy, very nostalgic
That was fun, I'm a big fan of the approximate starbucks, brandnames, and cola brands in Anime, so this fit in that niche nicely ^^
I love seeing how close animation can get without getting too close. Also this video made me want to go make my own plate of eggs and pancakes for whatever reason lol
You sound like you were having a lot of fun with recording this one, and I hope you do more videos in this 'just for fun' style. It's funny how a passing thought like "how many Anime Denny a-likes are there?" can lead down the rabbit hole. Great vid ^^
As a wise sage once said: You don’t “go” to Denny’s, you wind up at Denny’s. And not THAT Denny’s, the one across town is much better.
Hey! This is Erica from elementary and middle school, just wanted to say it's so cool to see you here thriving, and you and your wife are so beautiful! I hope life is being kind to you
oh my god hi, hahahaha. so cool to see you pop up here. thank you so much thats so sweet! i hope you're doing well too.
Hazel's done it again bay-bee!
Ahhhh, finally my day off, been saving this one, thank you hazel
didn't realise the denny's parking lot meme was lore accurate but apparently ive been missing half the joke the entire time 😭
I really respect how u just make whatever kind of videos u want and they're all ALWAYS very entertaining & somehow comforting 😂😂 please never changeee
(PS I never thought I'd hear a song from the JSRF OST in a modern UA-cam video so I really appreciate that unexpected throwback)
"Ontologically superior Denny's" would make a good post-punk band name.
Leave it to hazel to introduce me to something I've never heard of but have me immediately wildly interested in.
It’s difficult to put into words how much I love your videos. There’s UA-cam, and then there are hazel uploads x
It’s so wonderful, thank you so much
NEW HAZEL VIDEO LETS GOOO !!!
Thanks for making content, There's something about your videos that makes me genuinely feel happy for a little while.
I have no idea what the title means, but you made it so I guess I'm going to watch it
Videos like this remind me of how blessed we are with the age of the internet allowing pure auteur content like this.
Thanks for continuing to put out content, your videos are very soothing regardless of the topic and I'm sure they make everyone's day better.
Yay more Hazel
"The true totality of anime Denny's in existence may never be knowable" is the thesis statement for this video.
But Japanese Denny's doesn't have the Grand Slamwich.
What is a FilmCow fan even supposed to order?
I’m a casual anime enjoyer and was only here for Saiki K bc that’s like the only show I watch and knew they had a dennys in it. You are a monster
i just love how you come up with the most random topics to cover and explore and i get so sucked in every time. i just sat here waiting for an anime i knew was gonna show up and show up and go “yeah true” then so on until you listed them all. this is such a goofy video and i love it. (also sneaking in that this is a 10/10 vid just by referencing durarara only bc it’s my favorite anime ever 👍)
Hisashi Eguchi? Hell yeah!!!! You never stop impressing me with your amazing taste hazel, keep it up! Yet another absolute banger of a video😄
Love the ThorHighHeels-ian word play in this one, this branch of video essayists is easily one of the best online
seeing this video in my recommendations was my introduction to this channel. this is earnest and brilliant, and I'm happy to be here.
