Prior to the implementation of Sanctions on Russia after the invasion of Ukraine, this beautiful Italian port, was home to a number of superyachts owned by Russians whom are now on those US, EU and UK sanctions lists.
This included M/Y Universe allegedly owned by Dmitry Medvedev, the former Russian President. A source close to the vessel once saying it was owned by a ‘very high up Russian politician’. This yacht left rather luckily one day before the early morning raids by Italian Guarda di Finanza (iItalian Financial police) on another yacht in the marina. Universe fled to Turkey, being one of the first to do so and seemingly set a trend for other Russian owned boats to follow.
Other boats that call Imperia home for most of the year are M/Y Galaxy of Happiness owned by God Nisanov now Sanctioned by the US, this yacht has been seemingly towed from the Med to Turkey in the last few days. Another yacht, the 72 metre or 236 feet M/Y Predator owned by IKSANDER MAKHMUDOV who is not currently on any sanctions lists. However his vessel, which is almost always berthed here has not broadcast on AIS for almost 3 months and her last known location depsite saying Rhodes in Greece on Marine Traffic shows the vessel next to a swimming pool in a house in Corsica!
M/Y Clio 72 m 238 Feet Lurssen owned by Oleg Deripaska also usually enjoys Imperia’s coastline, however at the time of the Invasion of Ukraine she was in the Maldives. After a month she transited the Suez Canal to Turkey and headed to Russia via the Bosperas, turning off her AIS as soon as she cleared the strait. She has been seen on satellite coverage in a marina near Sochi.
Most of the vessels left prior to a string of arrests by the Italian authorities but this one, M/Y Lady M did not. Lady M was arrested along with another vessel M/Y Lena in San Remo an hour down the coast. Lady M is owned by Alexei Mordashov, one of the richest men in Russia making much of his money from the Steel Industry. Mr Mordashov though does not own just one yacht, and in fact his other yacht is much larger than this one and that vessel fled sanctions, but to Vladivostok in Russia. His other yacht being M/Y Nord.

What AIS tracking app/service do you like/use/recommend?
looks like you did an inspection for the owner considering that he now got those footage for free and independent if his security is working properly and so on.
Agreed!👍
😎
Your body of work on this topic is an epic saga...brilliant. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Any other long time subscribers feel like this is the most edgy, off the fence vid E-Sys has done yet? Thumbs up! Feels like a spy movie, love it.
I did wonder what the reaction would have been by the security guard if approached for an "innocent" chat.
Yes, almost a James Bond movie vibe.
It's superb!!!! I'm drinking my coffee in the desert city of Las Vegas, sound of seagulls in my headphones and eSysman reporting from the Mediterranean brings me back home. I miss my bejewelled Mediterranean coast! 💖💖💖
For a moment there I thought I was watching a James Bond film.
Very true 👍
It reminded me Vesper song:)
That was exactly my thought!
Queue mission impossible theme.

I’ve been a follower of your channel for quite some time now-multiple years. I enjoyed your old content as much as I do the new but wow… I must say, you’ve really stepped up your game. This video was beautiful! Thank you.
2:36 "shows the vessel next to a swimming pool in a house in Corsica"
Well ... that makes sense ...
OBVIOUSLY it's not going to fit IN the swimming pool ! B-)
Undercover investigative research at its finest! Impressive job being discreet enough to get such great images and video!
This was really a beautiful production! It ads significant polish to your already great videos. 💕
At first blush you think "I have a super yacht; I can go where ever I want, survive a war or pandemic - it's perfect!". But something as simple as paying for food, fuel, crew - suddenly they are quite fragile; vulnerable to the smallest supply chain glitch.
glad to see im not the only tinfoil hat wearer thinking this
The biggest boat I ever cleaned was 65 feet. It took 2 of us 2 weeks to do and it looked pretty clean when we started.
Keep those sneakers tied up tight 007. It would suck if you went to jail and couldn't make these great videos.
PS. That place is spectacular. I would be happy to spend time there in a dinghy.
Thanks
So happy you are having fun with this! You deserve those sponsors.
I noticed the life rafts were missing from Lady M. thank you for all the work you do to put these videos out 😎
It's amazing that you walked right by filming on your phone! Brave! The yacht is beautiful. Great vid... again!
Great work. I really like the new format, especially the epilogue. Keep up the good work!
Wow! This is becoming an Hitchcock-ian, sort of suspense...and I predict this will be a very big movie one day. It could even surpass the Titanic, if well scripted. Just my opinion...I am glued to this channel, and I don't even own a boat!:)) Love the intrigue...Thank you Sir, for the great, honest reporting. You are doing an excellent job:)⚓
The background dramatic music is perfect in conveying the message that war is not just about bombs and military supremacy but affects entire industries and all those working in them. North America is mostly shielded from this devastating calamity. Thank you for bringing forward the impact suffered by the personnel working on this vessels.
oh that music i also commented tragic broken heart...
super romantic and Very Marine.
you are a decent human if it touched you so correctly. : )
Sorry, I don't feel bad for the industry. If you dance with the devil, you will get destroyed by the devil. Yacht manufacturers knew that they were dealing with crooks and dirty money stolen from the regular citizens of Russia. Boo hoo.
Better to be an unemployed yacht crew than a Ukrainan or Russian soldier.
@@jorgegonzalez-larramendi5491 yes a great sadness among beauty.
I thought the music is to remind of what it feels like to put fuel in our cars.
I enjoyed the change of pace video with all the extra footage and telling the story. Thanks
This video quality is excellent. I have a DJI but it shakes so this drone must be a high quality drone for stable shots like this. Looks like cinematography. The knowledge you have on all these yachts and owners is massive. I look forward to each video you put out. Nice work. Editing must take hours and hours.
I have 3 different DJI‘s.
Most time i fly the mini 2, but it doesn’t shake.
Your DJI should also be stable in the air.
there is something called "digital stabilizer" maybe yours needs turning on ?
I haven't had any problems with my DJIs shaking. If anything, the video looks almost unnaturally smooth from the stabilization.
Is this a different drone than the one that was attacked by gulls or is there a way to dissuade them from attacking?
Isn't that a problem with DJI drones?
You may want to do some research, you may have to send it back in to get it fixed...
This by far was your best video.
eSysman - mysterious man of international IT
In either case I suspect there is more to the Russian obsession with super yachts. Keep up the good reporting.
My sailing yacht is in Imperia and I have been on the boat most days from mid June to early July. There were some crew onboard Lady M and I have seen light maintenance work being done. The security car is manned 24/7.
Does security always go for their side arm when they see a drone?
This video quality is a noticeable step up, well done 👏
Nordic mega yacht builder websites after all the sanctions: "The Commercial Council of Magrathea thanks you for your esteemed visit but regrets that the entire planet is temporarily closed."
Would there be complementary missiles too. I do hope so.
Thank you for the update and wow, the opening montage drone video was stunning. Beautiful footage pared with the perfect music.
Excellent and insightful. Thanks for all the daily updates... and pointing out the effects on thousands of workers, crew, brokers, etc

Content just gets better and better .... thanks for the update
I love your Vids, Sometimes I watch you Vids to go to sleep at night becuase they help me sleep, but this is beautifully Edited. Amazing thanks again.
- Love from Miami.
As an American sailing yacht captain Imperia was one of my favorite ports-of-call in Italy mostly since my Mom's family is from Liguria and Emilia-Romagna.
Those drone shots are just amazing!
The somber tone of the music score at the end could almost give one the impression that all the crews were "lost at sea".
Now that was different. Great video 👍
Great job on this episode. Thanks for details on the number of super yachts and % of the global fleet. I was going to ask if you could do some numbers to give context of how many and owned by country.
I really enjoyed this format. Very engaging and entertaining as well! I saw someone mention a James Bond movie but I think it had more of a 50s Romance/Thriller opening! Eh, but what do I know. Great video nonetheless.
yeah blink and you miss it
the game's afoot, watson !
Nice music: Rest Upon the Edge, 2021 album “Salt Water Glide” by Trevor Kowalski
Their was a shortage of crewmen so I’m sure most have found new jobs. My friend works on a charter yacht and said they are fully staffed for the first time in a long time.
Coming from big named yachts would be an easy placement on smaller yachts I would think.
Excellent production quality on this video!!! Beautiful and elegant. Lovely feel to it overall. Very very enjoyable. Felt like a dramatic story as opposed to news updates. Very well done, as always.
The sanctions MAY be hurting those meant to be hurt but there are also the unintended consequences as well. Hopefully things will be resolved and get back to some normalcy eventually. Great content as usual.
it is secondarily if not primarily an economic war. sovirussia Can't Compete it is in the nature of its pirate syatem.
ukraine produces Major food: wheat, beans .. then recently gas and oil fields were discovered. so? the sinking wreck of an evil empire attacks .. and starts a burn and sack. it is all it knows, and all any of the sovi wants to know.
Imagine being hurt because your blood money dried up.
There's no better sign of corruption than a Superyacht...may they become a thing of the past asap.
@@boogiewoogie9770 Exactly. A prime example of what is wrong in this world.
Crew having to find other work is a shame but nothing compared to the horror going on in Ukraine
This production you and your crew worked on did a phenomenal job. You had me anchored throughout every part of this video.
Fantastic production, what a beautiful place! I’ll put a word in for another area of unintended consequences, all the AV guys and Crestron control system programmers that either haven’t been paid or have had contracts cancelled.
Again great videography and music which I forgot to mention last time. Thank you for your continued updates and fantastic work you are doing.
eSysman I love your videos , been watching for a while and I love the way this was done my friend !! This one was different and it was great !!
Again brilliant videography and music too, I forgot to mention last time. Thank you for your continuous updates and for the fantastic work you are doing.
Nice work on this video. Fantastic content, story telling and the video production has upped a lot with this video. 😀👏🏻
Excellent channel mate. Well edited, paced, together with scarce information and great aerial views...good work all around. 👍👍🙂 Keep up the great work and take care. Cheers from Australia.
Nicely done! Music, aspect ratio and editing. A fun departure from your norm.
I feel like im watching a movie....Great work on vids man....
WOW! You really put a lot of thought and work into this video! You remind me of the Famous Englishman David Attenborough who does the animal documentaries.
This is one of the best informative video to date, IMO. Thanks for taking the time !
WOW WOW WOW. I love you new epic music intro and outtro. What a step up in production quality. PLEASE PLEASE do more videos like this. You reporting is borderline like a James Bond movie :-)
Wowowow … I just love the quality of your content. what a beautiful corner of the world, and a look into a life unseen by many.
I cleaned yachts as an assistant to my friend part time… nothing as big as these super yachts though.
My goodness - as has been said this is like the start of James Bond - my word I would never have imagined for a second that I would be amazed and intrigued by a site on super yachts - and I mention Peron for another site that has gone from gaming to incredible coverage of the wider issues - thank you
The name is spelled “Perun” in case that messes up search for the channel.
The intro of your video reminds me of an opening scene in a James Bond movie. 007!
eSysman continuing the Jason Bourne vibe. Love it!
Bourne pro-tip: Fumbling over the time at 6:51 was a dead give away.
In the future, simply state, "0800 hrs" as you part stalks of long grass.
...ssshhh...keeping low from beautiful Vancouver, Canada
Love the opening drone shots
The investigative journalist style of this was epic Esysman. You should tell those boat owners to wash their filthy yachts too! That’s the only law I see being broken - fail to wash down mega yacht.
Any idea whether the security was associated with the owner watching the yacht, vs the government watching the yacht after arresting it?
A sanctioned owner would find it very difficult to even pay a security guard.
Security would have a mandate from SOMEBODY: either observe and report, or intercede (what are you doing here), OR armed with a 410 over/under to bring down any flight cam!! (the 3rd. one didn't happen............THIS TIME).
Great production improvement. So fancy lol
nice music and other presentation features. Almost thought I was watching a Bourne movie or something....:)
Difficult not to comment this entry video and soundtrack. You really have good taste for video and music. Thanks for all your videos.
Great Job again. You news briefs are so much more informative than the amateurs in DC. Maybe you should bring your level of professionalism and dedication to journalism to the big 4 outlets. The world would be a more stable place. No bias just giving the facts you know at the moment with later additions and addendums. Kudos to you. Pulitzer worthy. Let’s goooo
Love the “ Hunt for Red October “ sound effect..
Very good Detective work. Sorry about all the crew and follow on personnel that will be affected. The large yachts will hurt more, because they require more specialized facilities / personnel. On the other hand it is very revealing that a high percentage of the 295+ Yachts are Russian owned - seems to reinforce the idea that the funding of these vessels is not from clean money. Lurssen will just have to make money building less than 295" foot SY.
Those opening shots, straight out of a Bond film. Bravo dude.
Really enjoyed that one. Great video, and then music 🎶 in the right place, and who doesn't love an orchestra. Thumbs up 👍 👍
Thank you for the excellent coverage!
THIS IS A VERY BEAUTIFUL VIDEO IN EVERY WAY WOW...A lot like watching a good movie music and all....Congrats on this Super video....What a lay out.....Thanks....Shoe🇺🇸
Quite the majestic musical opening with Kawolski, loved it.
Wow ! You did a great job and upgraded your video !! you can tell you put a lot of work in it !!! Robert from Ohio !!! USA 🇺🇸
Excellent! and very Hollywood esk, too BRAVO
I loved this approach you took, it added so much to your reporting. I feel from the workers on these ships, it gas to be a strain on them and ism pretty sure they are just a ticked off at Putin, like the rest. I would love to see the interior of Lady M.
I cant be the only one that teared up from the intro music. I love opera...*sniff* *sniff*. I'm not crying! Thats from the coke! On a more serious note, are these crew members able to easily find new jobs? Whats the supply and demand like for yachties??
enjoyed that one. production was brilliant.
FANTASTIC EPISODE. Thank you so much.
Great video, and thanks for extending yourself to get investigative news, be safe out there!
Great video, the different content format is great, well done, keep up the awesome work.
A great, informative video. Thanks.
Great video, very insightful and showing the big picture with the statistics cited at the end, thank you!
An interesting new format for your videos. I like it.
Great video, the sound and production was excellent 👌
Ah the theme music is so appropriate.
Your videos are so well done and this one was your best ever ! I never miss a episode your the best incredible footage keep up the terrific work !
Thank you! Will do!
Great detective work, and very informative, thanks
I really look forward to seeing your videos eSysman 😊 Strange but true lol
I'm going to start calling you "Fancy Pants" due to your skills. Bravo!
Great production! Congratulations on the good work!
What a stunning intro. Brilliant music and shots.
Loving the new format! As always, very informative.
A very professional presentation as usual
The music back ground is beautiful and quite moving, thanks.
That is such an outstanding tagline I have to mention it, "If you're not the paying customer, you are the product.", true, concise, and even kinda entertaining. My compliments to whoever is responsible for that little gem. They are all stunning vessels and I am certain that I could quickly develop the habit of enjoying coffee in the early morning air on an open deck. I have never washed a yacht of their size and calibre and I realize that efficient methods and procedures would be employed, so I am wondering how long would it reasonably take to complete that task? I'll never forget the first time I ever "waxed" a cruiser, it was my buddy and myself and it was done completely by hand, no electric polisher on that job! Haahaaa! If I recall correctly it was a 12 metre ~ 40-foot Chris Craft and it was sitting in the marina yard. We truly had no idea what we were getting ourselves into hahaaa! It did sparkle and shine by the end of the day though.
The bit at the end that mentions some of the effects felt by sanctions also lists some of the reasons that I kinda expected the invasion to be over by now. I thought that the oligarchs would quickly grow weary of their world grinding to a sudden stop as well as others such as people in the military and citizens not wanting the war and not wanting to lose any more people and a million other reasons. I expected some of them to quietly form a group and deliver the Julius Caesar treatment to Vladimir Putin. It could certainly still happen, but I did think it might have happened by now. Even if that did take place it doesn't necessarily mean that the invasion would stop. What a mess.
Great reporting, as usual, I appreciate your efforts. Thank you!
Great documentary-style opening and ending to this post, very slick! Very informative in regards to the people who crew and supply/maintain these sanctioned vessels - it's sad when one realizes how many lives are adversely affected by the callous, ill-intentioned behavior of some of these ultra wealthy oligarchs, and spot-on by eSysman to point out the fate of the crews and support personnel who are affected. Cheers.
Another Grand movie styled opening! Wow!
Thank you eSysman!
I enjoy your coverage and knowledge - I'd just say about the collateral damage - you reap what you sow!
Your Production Crew really stepped up!!!!
That level of your videos, is amazing!
Really enjoyed watching, great job!
Great production. Love the music. Love the Channel.
Life rafts seem to be missing too. And was the crew member just washing the TV dish to ensure he had something to watch later?
Love the new format and the soft music
