How to Knit a Giant Yarn Dog Bed-Machine Washable!

- Hi there! So glad you found our happy, little corner of the internet!
Giant yarn and our giant lab puppy Clue are two of my favorite things. Buuut, as you might have guessed, the two don't usually mix very well-haha! At least my luxury giant yarn isn't usually a great combo with my happy go lucky puppy! Despite that, I've been thinking for quite a while that it would be SO fun to make Clue a dog bed out of giant yarn-I mean, how cute would that be?? But the shedding and doggie smell in a non-machine-washable project stopped me from making one. Then just recently, I found out that Michael's with Loops & Threads just came out with quite a number of fun, economical, giant yarn options! (And while dreamy, merino giant yarn will always have the first place in my heart, this is a super exciting, fun option!) I bought two skeins of the Loops & Threads Wild & Free yarn and whipped up this dog bed in no time flat! Added bonus, Clue actually loves the dog bed and sleeps in it every night now-woot woot! So in case there were any other dog lovers out there who have been just wishing for a way to craft for their pooch, I thought this would be a fun project to share.;)

Supplies used in this tutorial:
2 skeins of Loops & Threads Wild & Free jumbo yarn (I bought mine from Michael's in the color "turquoise".)
Sturdy thread (I used Coats & Clark Indoor/Outdoor thread, but you don't have to use thread quite that intense-haha!)
Needle

This is a very cool style of bed im makeing it for a a cat though to sleep since the cat beds are tiny and am going to try to make the walls taller but it looks really good could hopefully fit to adult cats on it.
I love this video! The dog bed turned out great, and Clue sure seems to love it! 💖 Here's a tip for anyone interested in this type of yarn at Michael's. I would wait until it is regular price at $35 and use the 40 or 50 percent off coupon that they often have, because it can only be used for regular priced items. And sometimes they even have a 60 percent off coupon if you're a Perks member. :)

Hi! It looks like this yarn is no longer for sale. Do you have any recommendations for a substitute?
I got mine for $9 a ball. Planned on getting one ball to try out this yarn, but there was a glitch in there system and the balls were ringing up $9 a ball, and Michaels employee was like guess we have to give it to you at that price. My mom ended up buying 6 balls.

Yes! I made a little couch throw with it and I love how it looks!😍 AND, it’s really tough yarn, so I leave it there even if my dog is on the couch, and it’s just fine!🙌🏻😍 I did a giant yarn comparison video just recently and I show the blanket made from this type of yarn, if that’s helpful! Could it work with thinner wool
I love making blankets with tube yarn, but it costs too much. I'm playing with sewing and stuffing my own.
Is it 45metres for this bed? we are metric here in NZ. I’m making one out of old sock finger knitting yarn!
I have a great dane :) Can I follow this to the size I need without needing a specific number of rows? He ALWAYS steals my blankets and maybe this will make him stop lol

Good question! Our dog is quite large, so I used up both skeins!

For $50.00 I’d rather just buy a dog bed at Marshall’s plus I saved all that time. I don’t know why this yarn has to be so expensive. Nice tutorial though. Very clear and explanatory.
