    Perfect amber neck

    i just bought a strat neck from these guys, I've been playing guitar 25 years and I'm a right fussy sod, this neck however is amazing! I'm blown away how it can be so well made at this price point. i don't know if they are.made in-house or imported but the fret work is top notch even better than my deluxe USA strat. the nut has been filed with lots of care (though E string needs to go in deeper, the only thing that's off). keep doing whatever it is your doing guys, great work.

    The vintage amber is perfect thanks for this video and thanks for a great product. PS i did not spray my heck my wife did it for me because she is great at arts and crafts. You will be very happy with this amber finish because like in the video he says the more coats you put on the darker the finish is.

      You always need to check the level of the frets on a new neck or after a refret, so using sanding blocks and some sand paper doing the crown on the frets and all the paint will go away.

    I have a new nitro fender tele neck. It is a a bit light colored for my taste with a rosewood fretboard. Can I apply a vintage amber spray nitro directly to it to darken it up without sanding it down to bare wood? Thanks for the video.... I'll need to check the decal. I don't think it is buried in nitro.

    +Northwest Guitars UK. I can get Vintage Amber from ReRanch but it says to spray lacquer clear coat over it because it's not an actual lacquer. Also, I seen a nice Tan Strat that I want to use for the Body. I found Dessert Tan but some say it has a slight green tint to it. Off hand, do you know where I can get Tan/Tans at? On ReRanch, they have Custom Fender Colors but like I said, they don't carry all colors made for Fender. Perhaps you can point me in a direction for the Body color. What I'm doing is building a 3-Bolt w/Micro-Tilt Strat to give it that 70's look...Thanks, Dan

      Daniel Jenn we would recommend adding a clear coat over the top of all our colours, even the vintage Amber. Transparent colours like amber will darken with each coat. So if you don’t add a clear coat you’ll be sanding off the amber that you’ve applied, and it’s hard to sand evenly. The result is a patchy finish where the colour doesn’t look uniform. Adding 5-6 coats of clear over the top prevents this from happening. Hope that helps.... Kevin

      So I can spray the fret board & lacquer it, as long as i sand the frets that has the satin finish? I was concerned about the fret board because I bought a fender neck cheap & the seller said the original owner put the heavy gloss coat on the fret board & I'm concerned about the truss rod with all that poly on it....

    would you put a coat o clear Lacquer on before putting the head stock water slide on or strait to the vintage amber coat?

    • @callevi1791
      @callevi1791 3 роки тому

      What did you coat the raw wood with? I thought it was nitrocellulose gloss, and then you said you needed some clear coats. We’re they not all clear coats?

    • @kevinkuhn5102
      @kevinkuhn5102 3 роки тому

      I put on the vintage amber then one layer of clear coat I did my water slide then I would put on three coats 1 every two hours. The next day I sanded it down unti l the clear coat was even over the water slide. Then I cut down with 1000x 1500 and 3000 grit. I wanted a vintage look so I could took graphite shavings and rubbed it in. It turned out pretty good.

    When should i apply the decal?

    • @northwestguitarsUK
      @northwestguitarsUK  3 роки тому +1

      Nick Hutchinson if you’re applying a decal onto the vintage amber you’ll want to apply the decal after you’ve got the shade of amber you’re looking for. Then apply the decal and then apply coats of clear gloss over the top of the decal and the rest of the headstock. I Hope that helps, but if there’s anything else you need please let me know.

      I went to Autozone and got 1/4" fine line masking tape then regular masking tape on the fret board. You can clean any tape residue off with lemon oil. That is basically what I did turned out great.

    Does this affect the playability?

    • @northwestguitarsUK
      @northwestguitarsUK  5 років тому

      Hi Alexander. This is down to personal preference. Some people like a high gloss, lacquered neck whereas some people like a smooth neck. This can be achieved with either a satin lacquer over the top of just by simply sanding the neck back slightly. Either way, playability isn't affected. I hope that helps, but if there is anything else I can do for you please let me know.

    why would you need a clear coat on top? isn't this product a tinted clear or a stain?....why not just stain the wood then clear, it would be the same effect? a tinted clear then a clear clear seems like a waste of money to me.

    • @northwestguitarsUK
      @northwestguitarsUK  5 років тому +1

      Hi John. You don't necessarily have to apply a clear lacquer over the top of your amber coat. Doing so will add further protection however and you will achieve a deeper shine when you come to sand and polish. The clear has a very very slight tint to it but not like the amber where the tint is very prominent. I hope that helps, but if there is anything else I can do for you please let me know.
