The original recording of this song is by the British group Dire Straits Mark Knopfler the leader of that group wrote it to honour the British soldiers who fought in the Falkland Islands although he has since said it was a tribute to soldiers of any army.
War is hell, and the wounds go far deeper than the body. I cannot wait for the day when all war will cease, and in men's hearts will only be peace. This song bring tears every time.
It's hard to describe how incredible this is. All I know is, it pulls you in, hits you in the gut then tears at your heart leaving you totally wrung out, and all the while loving every moment beautiful moment of it. This is something very, very special.
The fallen soldier says his home is the Lowlands yet the first lyric is that these must-covered mountains are now home. Conflict? Far from it. Picture a young man of the Lowlands growing up in the belief he will live out his life there, due peacefully in his old age, and be buried there. Reaching manhood, he heeds his nation's call to arms. He finds himself mortally wounded on a battlefield in the mist-covered mountains.. Knowing well the battle still rages, he knows they cannot take him home to be buried in his beloved Lowlands. Now, he will be laid to rest there near the battlefield. Thus begins the song.
Thank you Kaz and Sarah! Kaz I appreciate you doing this video and I can describe it in one word. PERFECTION! My Daddy was a decorated WW2 Veteran and I didn't get the chance to know him. So I've always been extremely patriotic and grateful for everyone who has or is serving now. I wish I could tell my daddy how much he has impacted my life, even though I've never had him he is the one person who made the most influence on me. One day I will tell him! I want to look him in his eyes and say everything that I've dreamt of saying! Even at the age of 63 I still have the dreams of a little girl, so that will be a great day for me and hopefully for him! I hope that before he passed he knew that he was very appreciated. Love you two sweethearts! On a lighter note have y'all ever noticed Tim and his bass hand? I love watching him as he uses his right hand as he goes either down or up the scale of the notes! If you haven't play this one again and check it out. He is pretty famous for his " bass hand " with the Home Fry's! ❤️😘 to y'all from South Georgia 😃🍟🇺🇲
I did think this could put Sarah to breaking water. This song has everything an epic song demands. Impressive musicality and arrangement...flawless vocals...ability to bring out emotions every single time I hear this. I know what's coming, doesn't matter. Gut shot every time. And to me the coolest part...no country flare. Shows what they can do.
This gave me chills too. So hauntingly beautiful. Loved Tim’s low notes. Loved the echoes. Loved the black and white film. Tim and Chance looked ghost like in the windows. Great reactions ladies! Loved it.
I really Love Home Free paying RESPECT to All of Our Country's Men & Women in Uniform!!! Protecting our Freedoms!!! Thanks again Ladies!!! And We Love Y'all, Too!!!
The original was by Dire Straits, but Tim got this arrangement from another acappella group, Club For Five. They have an amazing bass also, but their high voices are 2 women instead of male tenors. Well worth a listen! My favorite thing about this one is the 5-part harmony. Love it when Adam Rupp sings!
Thanks Daventunes and Glenn for pointing out those covers. I love the original and I'd never heard any covers till today when I stumbled on this one. Now I've heard three great ones in a day.
"So many different worlds, so many different suns and we have just one world, but we live in different ones." I think IMHO, is the deepest and strongest quote from this song, I'm so happy you guys reacted to this! We need less violence and more peace and happiness, which you guys by making these reactions provide to people.
I've been waiting and hoping y'all would react to this. It makes me teary-eyed every time I hear this song. Mark Knopfler wrote this in "82 but it came out in "85. It's focus is a soldier dying in the Falklands war.
You ladies are so wonderful.. The reaction is so wholesome and beautiful ❤️❤️ Hope you and the baby are fine, Sarah 😃 I have tears in my eyes as I am writing this
I wasn't sure for most of this if you were only freaking out over the harmonies (which were great) or if you were also actually listening to the words and the message. It turns out you were. Thank you for acknowledging that.
Check out the 9 to 5 LIVE with beatbox breakdown...I believe you did 9 to 5 already, but this is the live version and they all beatbox during the breakdown.
As soon as I saw that my favorite reaction duo checked out this Home Free masterpiece, I anticipated the following: 1) Literal chills from their typical insanely gorgeous harmonies. 2) One or both of you drooling at some point. 3) Genuine appreciation for the lyrics and message of this song. 4) Tim's mines of Moria low note causing Sarah to go into labor. Oh well....three out of four is pretty good. 😁
Home Free's rendition of this song is sad, beautiful and haunting. The chorusing between the 2nd and 3rd verses reminds me of people wailing at a funeral. It's not a song, it's an elegy or a prayer.
Thank you for all the fun you provide on your channel! You are beautiful people. I was wondering if you have heard of the group Jehovah Shalom Acapella? I believe they are worth a listen. Thanks again
You girls are wonderful and Home Free did a beautiful rendition of this song for our folin (Brothers in Arms) it's not just a saying it's a way of life for us. Thank you both for the reaction.
This has such beautiful harmonies. Thie song was released in time for Veteran’s Day. Such a fitting s tribute. This was written shortly after the British Falkland Island war but does seem relevant for all conflicts. Thanks for your reaction
When I listened to this It reminded me of my father who was in the service and my husbands dad who died in Vietnam I cried such a beautiful mixture of voices
Your reaction was exactly what I expected! Brilliant!! I have always loved this song, and was of the firm conviction that no one could do it better than the original Dire Straits version. Home Free have proved me wrong! The harmonies are phenomenal, Tim's lead is soul-shaking and Chance's second lead was perfect! What I really loved was the fact that there was no beat boxing (although that is no reflection on Adam's talent), just pure vocal perfection.
I have been following Home Free since they appeared on "The Sing Off".... You ladies a ABSOLUTE joy to watch... Kaz and Sarah please react to Home Free cover God Bless the USA.... The feels are like none other... Keep it going ladies
This is a hauntingly beautiful song. I had a hard time with this at first until they brought out the video. After watching the video it just made it so much more beautiful and sad. Truly enjoyed watching your reactions to this song. Good luck Sarah on a quick delivery of your baby.
My grandad went to the army and came back when I was nine and three days later died of a heart attack still smiling and this song makes me cry every time ❤
I saw HF live in concert for the first time last month. My seat was on the center aisle in the 2nd row. There were several times I felt my seat vibrate when Tim hit a low note. They did "Ring of Fire" as an encore and when Tim hit that massive low note at the end, I could feel the floor vibrate (we were all standing) and my chest hurt! BTW, they look and sound even better in person than in the videos!!
As always, a pleasure to watch. It is a miracle that Sarah did not give birth to the child with the low notes ^^. I wish you, Sarah, and your child all the best and the fastest possible birth. I'm looking forward to a photo of the baby!
Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥
Thank you, Kaz for providing us with these wonderful and fun reactions. Sarah, enjoy your last days of pregnancy and your first time as a mom. Thanks to both of you for always delivering smiles and laughter to the world. 🥰🙏
I recall, as a small child, waiting by the door for my Father, a soldier, to come home. I was less than 2 years old. I stood by that door waiting for him every day. Some days he didn't come home. I was busy though, learning Japanese from my nanny. Mostly being insulted, as I recall.
if i could subscribe a couple 1000 more times i would! love your reactions and please wish sarah good luck, i have 4 and thank God every day for each of them. i saw them in october but they hadnt yet released this song. i'm seeing them again in december and really hope they add it
I have always loved this song by Dire Straits but think Home Free did an excellent version of this song. Tim's natural breathy bass was awesome & so were all the guys doing 5 part harmonies.
Tim favors my late brother so much that even though I love his singing, it is difficult to watch him. My brother did not sing like Tim, but he had an amazingly low speaking voice, as did most of the men in our family. I lost my brother to a car accident when he was 26, and I was 24. I wish I could post a picture here, so you could see the resemblance. I love you two gals, you make me laugh, and I value laughter very much. Keep up the videos.
Hey, Kazandra It may interest you and Sarah to know that this song that Home Free had done was originally released by Dire Straits and the song was the title track from their album "Brothers In Arms" Which also contains the songs "The Walk Of Life" and "Money For Nothing"
this song was a cover first arranged by club for five, speaking of it you should check em out, some covers i would recommend is Sassy, Brothers in Arms (for comparison), Lady Marmalade, You're the Voice, and honestly so many others they're so good
Firstly, this song is so haunting and has such meaning. Between the minor key and Tim's bass they made me cry again. I don't know if you've seen it, but there is a fan video of one of their funny skits that's titled Milk Bone. It starts with Tim's dog on stage and ends in rib cracking laughs. It's a must for Home Fries--think it might have been from this year's tour. There's another fan video of Austin singing Bring Him Home from Les Miserable and it's EPIC!

When the answer to the question "Oh My God What's That Note" is "The Sub-basement of Hell", well, you understand. Great reaction as always. Take care all.
Please both of you react to Voctaves' cover of "Where are you Christmas". Sorry in advance but.. You'll cry especially with the little one on the way 😊 Love from the UK and Merry Christmas to the 3 of you and your loved ones 🎄🎁☃️
This song really hits home with me. My brother was shot and killed in combat and is buried in Arlington. I retired from the Army medically after being wounded in both knees. Believe me when I say that freedom isn't free 🪖
Ladies....go back to those last two chords at the very end. I have sung many times with a pipe organ behind me......and those notes sound EXACTLY like a pipe organ. Amazing!
I cry everytime I here this song. My grampy wasin the 2nd world war and cripled. My dad was in the korian war and I was in the Canadian air force. we have seen friend die and this song brings all that home again. I have been in 22 diffrent countries. some ok some hell no. My worst encounter was when me and my master corple were doing a perimater walk. We runded a corner and a kid maybe 5 or 6 years old was there pointing a german luger at us trying to pull the trigger. we both dropped and upped our FNs when we realized he cound not pull the trigger.who ever gave him the gun didnt calk it for him and he wasnt stonge enuf to calk and fire the weapon. we found out after that they gave him the gun said shoot the men in green and we will give your family food. I almost shoot a 5-6 year old kid in the face with an FN .It still haunts me today.
My Father is a Viet Nam Vet and he cries, or gets a little misty, occasionally when I bring it up. Apparently, it was horrible. These men truly were brothers in arms. I doubt people outside of this could every really understand. You wouldn't believe the stories he's told me. When I was about 10 years old, my Dad told my little brother and I that we had to walk a trail, that he had designed. He told us that there were traps and that we should be perceptive. I walked the trail and told my Dad that I saw 18 traps. He told me that I was dead and that I had been killed. He told me that I needed to be more aware of my surroundings. This is what war did to my family.
DO YOU WANT TO HEAR TIM TAKE OVER AND SING THE HIGH NOTES AND WATCH AUSTIN WATCH TIM HIT THESE NOTES? IF YOU DO, WATCH HOME FREE SING THEIR NEW COVER CALLED "MY MARIA".
Died streats 1985 it's about the Falklands war I remember this when it came out the image in my mind was watching the Welsh Guards talking to the Argentine consripts in wealsh these were descendents of Welsh miners who left there valleys and there farms to mine in Argentina, there was no hatred amongst them even though the Welsh Guards had been hit hard when there landing shop was hit and court fire many of them killed burned and mamed but no hatred towards there brothers in arms
I thought this was a reaction to "God bless the broken road" when I clicked on it. Once I realized it was "Brothers in Arms", I just giggled. I knew then what you were in for.
Great reaction ladies, you 2 always make me smile, keep up the entertainment 👍👍👍 you should check out Sabaton - A Christmas Truce, it’s an absolute banger of a song
Hellooo kazzz I hope your having a great day and I could you please have Sarah react to the bass gang emperor's new clothes love youuu guys keep up the great work 👏👏👏👏
Not sure if you guys have done Geoff's cover of "High and Dry" by Radiohead. If there's one way to appreciate Geoff's range, this is it (amongst many other instances obviously😂). Love your videos
I never thought Home Free could have a 2nd masterpiece after Helplessly Hoping, but they sure did with this one. It's hauntingly *STUNNING*
This song shows REVERENCE to those who've died for this country. Amazing, truly.
The original recording of this song is by the British group Dire Straits Mark Knopfler the leader of that group wrote it to honour the British soldiers who fought in the Falkland Islands although he has since said it was a tribute to soldiers of any army.

Has anyone else noticed Tim sings with his hands? When that hand drops so does the note.
A lot of a cappella singers do it, at least on video. Gives a visual interest to what they are doing vocally.
Tim's famous for "Tim's Bass Hand" :)
The fallen soldier says his home is the Lowlands yet the first lyric is that these must-covered mountains are now home.

Knowing well the battle still rages, he knows they cannot take him home to be buried in his beloved Lowlands. Now, he will be laid to rest there near the battlefield.
Thus begins the song.
This song tears at my heart - always. Have a new box of tissues beside me. Thank you for reviewing this one.

A little hint for the future ... As great as HF is, you know they're going to be epic when Adam Rupp sings.
As far as I'm concerned, Adam doesn't sing enough. I couldn't agree with you more.

Thank You Ladies. Thank You for sharing your hearts with all of us.

Another great cover of the song was done by Gregorian
Thanks Daventunes and Glenn for pointing out those covers. I love the original and I'd never heard any covers till today when I stumbled on this one. Now I've heard three great ones in a day.
@@Krisburturion You're welcome. Gregorian has lots of albums of covers sung in the Gregorian style. Some really amazing pieces there.
@Marjo Arendse When I hear Finnland and music, I first think of my favorite band, Poets of the Fall :)
"So many different worlds, so many different suns and we have just one world, but we live in different ones." Check out the 9 to 5 LIVE with beatbox breakdown...I believe you did 9 to 5 already, but this is the live version and they all beatbox during the breakdown.
They do it in the live version of Mayday too, and it's fantastic!!
As soon as I saw that my favorite reaction duo checked out this Home Free masterpiece, I anticipated the following:

2) One or both of you drooling at some point.
3) Genuine appreciation for the lyrics and message of this song.
4) Tim's mines of Moria low note causing Sarah to go into labor.
Oh well....three out of four is pretty good. 😁
Not all light hearted but beautiful harmonies. Serious and thought provoking and SO memorable.
That deep humming was Tim, Chance and Adam together.
Knopfler is a fabulous songwriter, performer. Give a listen to Dire Straits performing this song. Great lyrics, haunting melody. Peace!
You girls are wonderful and Home Free did a beautiful rendition of this song for our folin (Brothers in Arms) it's not just a saying it's a way of life for us. Thank you both for the reaction.
I have literally been left in a puddle of tears...PEACE!!!!!
Wow you could feel the vibration! Plus the message
This song is about a critically wounded soldier and his battle brothers. The Faulklands war.

What a lucky baby to be listening and enjoying this with y'all! God bless
Did you notice Adam Rupp the beatboxer is also singing.
As always, a pleasure to watch. It is a miracle that Sarah did not give birth to the child with the low notes ^^. I wish you, Sarah, and your child all the best and the fastest possible birth. I'm looking forward to a photo of the baby!
Hauntingly beautiful.
Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥
Outstanding !!!
Thank you, Kaz for providing us with these wonderful and fun reactions. Sarah, enjoy your last days of pregnancy and your first time as a mom. Thanks to both of you for always delivering smiles and laughter to the world. 🥰🙏
New this would blow your minds!Glad to see the dynamic duo back together again!
Hey Kaz love your reactions welcome back Sarah.
I recall, as a small child, waiting by the door for my Father, a soldier, to come home. I was less than 2 years old. I stood by that door waiting for him every day. Some days he didn't come home. I was busy though, learning Japanese from my nanny. Mostly being insulted, as I recall.

I have always loved this song by Dire Straits but think Home Free did an excellent version of this song. Tim's natural breathy bass was awesome & so were all the guys doing 5 part harmonies.
Hey Kaz and Sarah that was beautiful and I recommend that you do a reaction on Pentatonix The Prayer. You will love this song.
Literally brought me to tears 😭
The malfunction is always a classic
Tim favors my late brother so much that even though I love his singing, it is difficult to watch him. My brother did not sing like Tim, but he had an amazingly low speaking voice, as did most of the men in our family. I lost my brother to a car accident when he was 26, and I was 24. I wish I could post a picture here, so you could see the resemblance. I love you two gals, you make me laugh, and I value laughter very much. Keep up the videos.

Lyrics:
These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Some day you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn
To be brothers in arm
Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I've watched all your suffering
As the battles raged higher
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms
There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones
Now the sun's gone to hell
And the moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line on your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms
.......Mark Knopfler
This video is Haunting, Mesmerizing, Magical and a Beautiful Masterpice.
This song is about fallen soldiers, message first, harmonies later. Listen to the lyrics.
When the answer to the question "Oh My God What's That Note" is "The Sub-basement of Hell", well, you understand. Great reaction as always. Take care all.
This should be fun...Powerful and moving.
It's the Song of a dying Soldier.
Good song good reaction nice to see Sarah again
Enjoying your energy and comments together!
Please both of you react to Voctaves' cover of "Where are you Christmas". Sorry in advance but.. You'll cry especially with the little one on the way 😊
Love from the UK and Merry Christmas to the 3 of you and your loved ones 🎄🎁☃️
This song really hits home with me. My brother was shot and killed in combat and is buried in Arlington. I retired from the Army medically after being wounded in both knees. Believe me when I say that freedom isn't free 🪖
That low note was a G#1
This music is for the fallen knights ( soldiers ) of the wars
Tim and chance are the low notes,
Ladies....go back to those last two chords at the very end. I have sung many times with a pipe organ behind me......and those notes sound EXACTLY like a pipe organ. Amazing!
they’re definitely the best band I’ve ever heard🥰❤️

Hopefully the vibration of the bass doesn't make the baby think that Sarah's water is breaking.

Hehe you already know what I’m gonna say. Love watching the reactions
Ps: chase holfelder I will always love you

I walked the trail and told my Dad that I saw 18 traps. He told me that I was dead and that I had been killed. He told me that I needed to be more aware of my surroundings. This is what war did to my family.
