  • My wife took a trip recently and flew out from Atlanta Georgia. I decide after dropping her off at the air port to do some metal detecting. Can I find silver in the hustle and bustle of the ATL?

I use to live in Searchlight, NV. Across the street from my house was a mechanic and his shop. For years there was a story around town of this guy that owned a casino in Searchlight that hid his silver dollars. Everyone searched. In the hills around his house. In his old house. Casino had burned down years ago and nobody ever found them. My mechanic buddy, Bob flagged me one day and said he needed a hand towing a car about 15 miles to his shop. Off we go. Cadillac. Don't remember the year but it had electric windows that didn't work. Hot. About 98 outside. No problem. I had lots of drink. So we get back to shop and I complain about electric windows. The guy that owned the car was the son of the guy that owned the casino. He gave us the car. Fixed right up. Ran great. Windows would not work. Finally, we took the door panels off. Yep. Over 3500 Morgan dollars. Seems he'd slide them between the rubber gasket and the glass. When the car ran, he had AC or heat. Never used the windows. What a find. Not my only one from that little old western mining town. Lots of stories. We never told anyone about our finds except the kid. We split it with him, swore him to secrecy and watched for years as one person after another, would go looking for the lost casino money 💰. Absolutely hilarious watching one after another look for it. Memories. Thanks guys. 😊

Dont come metal detecting in Chattanooga. They will put you in jail for detecting here. If you do detect, it's gotta be private property. Even then, technically anything 100 years old is supposed to remain in the ground. So barbers are off limits?? I get the civil war was here with missionary ridge, lookout and signal mountain. There are several battlefields. My question is WHY leave it in the ground where nobody can appreciate the relic? We can respect battlefields and certainly burial grounds. Why cant we save history elsewhere? It sucks that I have to travel to detect.

Prohibiting metal detecting on public property, which all citizens have an ownership stake in, is nothing more than just one more instance of governmental overreach.

Same with Louisville parks. They blamed detecting for killing the grass. But they never raked the leaves…

Nice short Atlanta Ga. dig John! I know you missed that traffic because otherwise you would still be stuck in it. Ha! I hate that traffic. I couldn't imagine doing a daily commute there. That's a crazy amount of coins from a car Mike!

Around 2 hours, but the traffic usually adds at least 30 minutes to the trip.

Number1 we don't make the rules so if it was our house then we could make the rules and others will have to aby by them no matter if they like them or not.2 I feel like this is a situation like the Native American. You put Native Indian in a Sports team, any that effects thier culture it has to change. I mean there was a butter with a picture of a Indian woman on it and they company got suied . I understand that they have been really hurt and betrayed. It just has gotten out of hand. But that's the world we live in. We have to learn to thrive in it.

Have your search for wheat cent for errors. Same with the silver coins. Use a microscoscope.
