Hi, are children expected to know spellings for dictation. We’re just moving onto level 2 from level 1 and there’s a big jump, wouldn’t expect my child to know the spelling even for the first few dictation exercises
Hi Muneeba3554. No, they do not need to be accurate with spelling to do the dictation exercises. Even up to level three, the author reminds you at times that you may need to spell certain words, so they can focus on the skills being taught, such as dictation, identifying the main ideas, summarizing, etc. Spelling is to be taught separately. So, for words you think they cannot spell, I usually spell them out for my kids before I start the narration and have them write them at the bottom of the page, where they can easily reference them.
